My playtime: 0.1h (based on steam). Developer Response: ~24h. *Note that i just play this game after i got a game over screen since i don't know how to play this game.
Intro
Heartomics 2 is a grinding game to boost your stats to fight monsters. You can do three different things each day and that's it. Although it's Heartomics 2, i believe that there is no relation between the first and the second serie at all.
Musics
There are two musics in this game and it's very nice and relaxing.
Graphics
This game uses anime style characters and they looks nice. The backgrounds are also good looking. However, the main menu and the UI is horrible. The main menu only shows a low resolution Heartomics logo and a "New Game" button. The buttons are also designed horribly with no effort.
Story
The game doesn't give much story to begin with although i believe that there is a story branching in this game since i play this and got a game over without doing anything significant.
The game
You'll be shown a screen of a girl with bunch of icons after pressing a New Game. With no way of knowing what icon does what, i decided to tinker around until i found out that most of the icons are used to raise your stats. There are tons of stats such as HP, strength, defense, magic attack, and magic defense for battle. There are also other stats which i don't even understand what is it used for such as art skill, endurance, confidence, and a lot more. You can do three actions in the game by pressing the icons. You can train, work, or even going somewhere. However, you can only do each of these actions once per day although after playing it for a few days, i feel that i need to go to other places more than once because you can buy a status boost potions and trigger event which i believe is used to progress to the story. Sadly, you can only do it once per day. There is also an option to kill enemies although the combat system is horrible. There is an attack, magic attack, and counter command. Both attack and magic attack will do attack to the enemy (no, you don't get to choose which "spell" that you have to cast in magic attack command) while the counter will... counter the attack that the enemy do (if it's attacking, that is). Your attack can also get countered by the enemy which makes it to be a guessing game. The enemy is also way too strong to beat if you didn't grind for stats beforehand. You can also see your status although it's divided into three sections and all status (such as HP, strength, and defense) informations are displayed in separate dialogues. This is also happening when you're training and working. You'll get a "Your strength increased by 10!" kinda message three times in one action. There is a closet option where you can buy clothes to change your character outfit in the screen. I don't think that there is a stat boost by using different clothes but there is a weapon shop in the town where you can buy a weapon to boost your stat in a small amount. Honestly, i still don't know what's the point of this game. I just clicked through the options several times and waiting for the dialogue to roll out. The game also has auto save (no manual save) which make me have to reset the game completely if i screwed up. In the end, i got a "game over" (although it doesn't say so) after i advance a day without knowing what happened. Actually i want to stop playing this game just after a few seconds, but i hold out until i got this "game over" screen. Pros: - Changeable clothes. Cons: - No tutorial. - Unclear goal. - Terrible battle system. - Too much useless dialogue.
Conclusion
This is a stat grinding game with no clear point on what to do.
Should you buy this game?
No. Seriously, don't buy it. Even for trolling purposes. It's not worth it.
Backgrounds from this game are more worth than game itself
Nokori is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. But in this case I'm not even sure it's a genuine attempt to write a novel... this garbage (and this is not the first time this "developer" has done this) looks more like they slapped together anything that would run well enough to pass off as a game so they could dump it on Steam with the expectation of making profit. It's not at all sincerely made... the writing is gibberish. There's a few minigames to go along with the VN component but these are equally garbage. My best guess for this existing on Steam at all is purely to abuse Steam trading cards, something Valve have (thankfully) banned other developers for. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. You can get better quality books and comics for free online or from public libraries, or from bookstores for a fraction of the price of this "game". Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games. While there are options to change the resolution for the E-Book, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the E-Book, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this E-Book was with readers reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in reader counts for the E-Book. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the E-Book... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the E-Book just has a couple of readers every week running up the E-Book and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many E-Books like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. Nokori is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the E-Book, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
Do you like having absolutely no idea how to progress in a game? Do you enjoy an extremely buggy gameplay environment? Is it your goal to become completely frustrated with a game in under half an hour? OHHH BOY! This is the game for you. I purchased this horror of design for 65 cents and I'm not entirely sure it was worth that. There should have been A LOT more testing before release and perhaps a tutorial or at the bare minimum a help menu.
i don't even know what i'm doing on this game.
