About
Merge and Blade is a fantasy puzzle game.
You will engage in large-scale battles with monsters with your own squad which is made using merge mechanics.
After a battle, you can recruit new units using merge mechanics.
By proceeding with these puzzles and battles, you will retake the castles occupied by monsters.
As you retake the castle one by one, your base and squad get stronger.
Your journey will continue until retaking the last castle.
But, even if you retake the last castle, your journey won't completely end.
There are endless invading monsters that you have to hold off.
You can battle with your friends or can save the world again with another strategy.
Are you ready to save this world?

This game is a puzzle that builds blocks that come down like Tetris, Hexa, and Puyo Puyo.
But it's not about holding out for a long time or removing blocks. it's about merging the same three or more units to create a higher class.
The goal of the puzzle is to create a squad as strong as possible within a limited turn.
You can make a much stronger squad or can get additional turns with multi-merge, combo, etc.
Battles are performed in real-time up to 25 v 25.
In battles, formation is important, as well as each unit's stats. This is because each unit has its own attack types and attack or heal ranges.
So it's good to care about the position of the unit when you place units in the puzzle part. In addition, you can use swaps to change their position in battle.
You can use gold from puzzles and battles to upgrade your base and units in your squad.
Base upgrades provide unlocking the merging list and adding the number of turns, previews, and swap.
Units upgrades increase the unit's HP and ATK, giving you an advantage in battles.

Survive from the endless monsters as long as you can with your squad you've grown.
Brag your puzzle skill in this local multi-player mode.
You can even play with your friends who don't have the game using Steam remote play.
It's another land only for the challenge mode. Make a new squad, and complete from start to finish at one go.
You can compete with other players with the defense mode score, etc.

It's a nice idea but right now I can't recommend it. The game sends you mixed signals. On one hand it wants you to merge 4+ units so you get extra turns, on the other hand it ♥♥♥♥♥ up your formation on every fight which means that you can't setup your board for big combos over more rounds. More often than not I felt like that playing randomly was better because if you play "properly" you get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up by the unit swaps by breaking the combo you were building up, but if you play like a monkey maybe the random swap can actually create combos.

A potentially great game but it only takes about 2 hours to complete all of the content which you receive for the price of the game. Additional content is locked behind an interminable series of micro transactions. It's a good option for people who want to end up spending 200 bucks on a game with a 10 dollar price tag.
At first it was fun, but real quick it became something of a mediocre game. I would wait to buy it when it goes ok sale, Its not a 10 dollar game. Its barely a 5 dollar game. When you compare it to other 10 dollar games this one is a NO BUY. It just gets really boring, real quick.
I bought this because it reminded a little of a game which I loved: Might and Magic - Clash of Heroes. Merge and Blade has a similar, and fun game play loop, but lacks the colourful characters and story that made that game so satisfying.

Merge & Blade, developed and published by Magic Cube, presents a refreshing blend of puzzle and strategy elements that stands out within both genres. The game revolves around a merging mechanic where players combine identical units to create stronger warriors, forming a diverse and powerful squad. This simple yet compelling concept drives the core gameplay loop, as players engage in real-time battles against hordes of monsters while continuously upgrading their forces. The goal is to reclaim castles overrun by enemy creatures, and with each victory, players gain resources to further enhance their army and base, creating a satisfying cycle of progression. The gameplay emphasizes strategic thinking, requiring players to carefully consider unit placement and composition. Battles can feature up to 25 units on each side, and every unit comes with distinct attributes such as attack style, health, and range. This diversity forces players to balance offense and defense while making swift tactical decisions during combat. The merging mechanic adds another layer of depth, as players must decide which units to combine to maximize their strength and efficiency. The challenge lies not only in managing the battlefield but also in optimizing the merging process to build an unstoppable force. Visually, Merge & Blade embraces pixel art with a clear and charming aesthetic. The units and environments are designed to be easily distinguishable, which is crucial in the heat of battle where quick identification matters. The interface is user-friendly and intuitive, allowing players to dive straight into the strategic action without struggling with complicated controls. This clarity helps maintain the game's fast pace, enabling players to focus on planning and reacting rather than navigating menus. The game offers multiple modes to keep the experience varied and engaging. The main campaign mode tasks players with retaking castles one by one, progressively increasing the difficulty and complexity of encounters. Challenge mode shakes things up by introducing new squads and goals, encouraging players to adapt their strategies on the fly. Defense mode tests endurance by pitting players against endless waves of enemies, providing a tough and thrilling experience for those who crave longer sessions of tactical combat. For social gamers, local multiplayer allows head-to-head battles with friends in split-screen, adding a competitive dimension that expands the game’s appeal. Despite its many strengths, some players might find that the gameplay loop can become repetitive over extended playtime. The merging and battling rhythm, while initially engaging, can feel somewhat cyclical for those seeking more narrative or varied gameplay mechanics. However, the developers actively address this through regular updates that introduce new characters, units, and modes, refreshing the content and maintaining player interest. This ongoing support demonstrates a commitment to evolving the game and providing a richer experience over time. In summary, Merge & Blade successfully merges puzzle and strategy mechanics into a cohesive and entertaining package. Its innovative unit merging system, combined with real-time tactical combat and a variety of gameplay modes, offers depth and replayability for fans of both genres. While it may not reinvent the wheel in terms of complexity, its approachable design, charming visuals, and steady progression make it a rewarding experience for those looking for a unique strategic challenge. For players who enjoy thoughtful planning wrapped in a visually appealing and accessible format, Merge & Blade is definitely worth exploring. Rating: 7/10
I didn't know it was an abandoned EA game when I bought it. I hate the random rearranging that happens when it goes to the fight stage.
Very fun game, good concept for a merge autobattler. At the end of the campaign I definitely wanted more. Will be looking forward to the roguelike mode.
