Loved it, very imaginative and enjoyed the story line. Also enjoyed the relationship issues and would be happy to play another from the same makers.

Reviewed on: 2024/06/05 Score: 7/10 Playtime: About 12 hours for 100% achievements and all scene unlocks [b]Note:[/b] This isn't a harem game, it's a kinetic story with the player being able to pick one of three main LI the MC will end up with. There are several encounters with side-LI; these are mostly one-offs, and they will have other relationships (though not in an in-your-face NTR way). As far as I can tell, this game was in development from 2018 till 2021, so don't expect the same level of detail of current-gen games. [b]TL;DR:[/b] While the game seems to starts as a typical porn-centric story, with the MC's comically oversized penis and every woman falling for him, this quickly gets turned into a plot device. Our MC seeks treatment which solves his penis and hormonal issues, and facilitates the rest of the story and relationships. While the game isn't heavy on choices, the story is told well and capable. The LIs are all gorgeous, though physically relatively similar. That said, they all look natural, and I wouldn't put them in the bimbo or thicc categories. Despite the large amount of erotic scenes, Mr. Knobb manages to keep them interesting and relevant, thanks to the large cast of (side-)LI. [b]Adult:[/b] “Retrieving the Past” contains a lot of adult content. It has 64 main erotic scenes and 11 erotic epilogue scenes (depending on which LI you pick). The game also references and explores the consequences of sexual assault and violence. The erotic scenes are largely vanilla-flavored, with foreplay, vaginal and anal intercourse, as well as several threesomes (and more). [b]Visual:[/b] Visually, the game looks a bit dated, but for its time, it's really well done. Like most games of this length, there's a clear improvement in skill and capabilities when comparing the early content with the end-game. The love interests (and characters in general) are all designed well, with believable proportions and looks. The renders and animations are nice as well, though I'm taking their age into account here. Most animations have some clipping, though this was far more noticeable in the early game. At the start of the game, the MC has a comically enlarged penis, which made erotic scenes look uncanny. I don't know if his treatment for this was an in-universe response to player feedback, or designed from the start, but I think it was the right choice regardless. My biggest complaint, and one that's easy to fix, is the absence of a textbox. Often, bright backgrounds will make the font challenging to read. I also had to increase the font-size with Ren'Py's built-in (shift+A) scaling tool. The UI could use some TLC as well, with the save-rename screen being very bright, and the choice-system/buttons feeling very dated. [b]Sound:[/b] The sound is balanced well with sensible default volumes. There's no generic music in-game, except for specific scenes, but there are (some) sound effects and sex noises. [b]Novel:[/b] This is the part that makes the game stand out for me. While the writing isn't on-part with a published novel, it's still good. The story starts with the MC going about his day, and noticing physical changes. His penis grew several sizes, and he's becoming aware that women are suddenly very forward toward him. He meets a few women, and seeks help from a doctor, to try to figure out what's going on. The MC, previously an army ranger, now owning a security company, had been subjected to super-soldier experiments while in the military. This is where the actual story starts, and the MC becoming aware of his past coming back to haunt him, and the women he's getting close to. What I loved about the story the most, is that, while the MC is very much a super-human, he's still flawed. He's heroic, but not always the hero of the story. Sometimes, other people will save the day and resolve plot points. The MC is capable, but not “the chosen one”. The various love interests will play a role in this story as well, though in unexpected ways. Some LI will be one-off encounters, with three LI driving the story, and the MC's growth forward. In episode 3, the player will have to pick between these three to continue a relationship with. The LIs that aren't a considerable part of the MC's life, will live their life in the background, which includes meeting other people (tastefully). Because it's a kinetic story, there aren't many choices to make. Most choices just show a different scene or perspective, and aren't referenced later. As such, I suggest saving before a choice and reloading to see the other perspective/event/achievement. Because of its kinetic nature, I don't mind as much that the main MC can't be renamed. There are a few 4th wall breaks (or director's commentary, if we're generous), and references to COVID-19, which makes the game feel dated more than the visuals. [b]Conclusion:[/b] While I would've loved more meaningful choices, specially about how the MC spends his time and with whom, I enjoyed the story. Erotic scenes are a consequence of the story and events, and not the other way around, like porn-centric games tend to do. Each main LI has their baggage and issues, which adds depth and intrigue. The dev skillfully made the MC consistent and likeable, he isn't two-faced, he doesn't lie and cheat, and doesn't act like a horny teenager. May have to revisit this one now that Alternate Existence is out. Retrieving the Past had a twisting and occasionally weird story, but overall was good. The renders and animations of the beautiful women were pretty good as well! Enjoying AE and it has some special guest stars from RtP! :) I recommend purchasing both!

This one is borderline, as there are some thing to enjoy, but for me the negatives outweigh the positives, so I can't recommend it. Short version Overlong and not very original story with far too few lewd scenes and unable to pursue half the lovely ladies in the game. Longer version --Needs a proper soundtrack, very little music in the game. It does have some sound effects, but the majority of the game is silent. --hottest girls in the game are not romance-able. Did some screenshots of some of the beauties you don't get to bang, very frustrating. --Not nearly enough sexy time for the length and it is poorly proportioned. Some nice scenes at the beginning, then nothing for the majority of the game, until the endings. I don't think there is a proper sex scene with the MC in the entire part 2. --too many random dudes banging the ladies. Not a fan of NTR, especially when it's unavoidable. Wanna see the girl that was just blowing the MC a few scenes before getting railed by the bad guy? Nope, me neither, but you get to. Her Mother too for some strange reason. --Unavoidable rape. Nuff said, not a fan of rape used as a plot device. --Characters and plot from Depraved Awakening and Acting Lessons used in this one. I highly recommend both of those games by the way, they are quite good. At least Stella, I mean Victoria doesn't get her brains blown out by The Dragon in this one, and her sex scenes, if you can last that long, are fire. Still pretty salty we get to see Jessie again but can't bang her. At least Liam makes a nice appearance, even if it is under a different name. --I understand it's a Kinetic Novel and we are really playing the Dev and not ourselves, but still, not being able to change the MCs name is a pet peeve of mine. --Speaking of the Dev, lots of weird 4th wall breaking moments that are mostly just awkward. --Sooo much filler! Lots of boring backstory and character building, mostly with characters we don't even care about, with no sexy time to break it up. I understand he wanted to make it cinematic, but it's not very exciting. Even the climax and final show down is pretty boring. At least we get some sexy time after that, though I'm not sure it's worth the frustration. To be fair, the endings are all quite hot with lots of sex, you just have to pay a high price to get it. The ending with the young woman is pure daddy/daughter role-play, and is so good, it makes you wonder why the MC can't bang his actual family members. Would have made the game so much better. i just really wanted the game to be better than it is. If you set your expectations low, and are willing to slog through much of the game without fun times, you will probably enjoy it. Would have been much better with a proper harem ending though.

Great AVN avidly awaiting Alternate existence Season 2 I really enjoyed the story would mind seeing more from this story arch. Maybe even a female led protagonist could be Jensens daughter or Evaline. It could be set in the future where Evaline and Jensen head up a new covert team where they recruit Jensens Daughter. They could both teach different facets required to be a new super soldier. You could bring back all the cast from here in bit parts. You could ask at the start of the game who did Jensen end up with.
