ReThink is a focused, logic-driven puzzle experience that places problem-solving and spatial reasoning above spectacle or narrative excess. Developed and published by Yaeko, the game presents itself as a cerebral challenge from the outset, framing its puzzles within a cold, futuristic environment where intellect is the sole tool for progress. Rather than relying on story twists or character development, ReThink commits fully to the idea that the satisfaction of understanding and mastering its systems is the primary reward. The premise situates the player in a high-tech correctional facility where progress is earned by completing a series of increasingly complex test chambers. This setup functions more as atmospheric context than as a narrative driver, but it effectively reinforces the game’s themes of isolation, observation, and logic. The absence of overt storytelling keeps the focus squarely on the puzzles themselves, allowing players to sink into a rhythm of experimentation and deduction without distraction. At the heart of the gameplay is a system built around manipulating colored laser beams using movable cubes. These cubes act as mirrors, splitters, and color combiners, and the goal in each room is to direct the correct color of light to its corresponding receiver. Early puzzles introduce these mechanics gently, teaching the basics of reflection and alignment, but the complexity escalates steadily. Soon, players must juggle multiple beams, anticipate how colors combine, and plan sequences of interactions several steps in advance. The challenge comes not from dexterity, but from understanding how small changes ripple through the entire setup. The first-person perspective plays a crucial role in how these puzzles are experienced. Unlike abstract, grid-based logic games, ReThink requires players to physically move through each space, examining angles, distances, and lines of sight. This adds a tangible quality to problem-solving, making each solution feel like a physical construction rather than a purely theoretical answer. At times, this perspective can make solutions harder to visualize, especially in larger rooms, but it also deepens immersion and reinforces the sense that you are interacting with a real, three-dimensional system. Visually, the game opts for restraint and clarity. Environments are clean, minimalist, and deliberately uncluttered, ensuring that puzzle elements stand out clearly against the background. Laser beams are bright and readable, cube interactions are visually consistent, and distractions are kept to a minimum. While the aesthetic may feel sterile or repetitive to some players, it serves the gameplay well by eliminating ambiguity and visual noise, both of which can be frustrating in logic-heavy games. Audio design complements this minimalist approach. Ambient soundscapes and subtle music create a calm, contemplative atmosphere that supports extended periods of concentration. Sound effects provide clear feedback when cubes are moved or lasers connect, reinforcing player actions without becoming intrusive. The overall audio presentation reinforces the sense of isolation and focus, making the experience feel almost meditative at times. Difficulty progression is one of ReThink’s stronger aspects. The game respects the player’s intelligence, rarely holding their hand once core mechanics are introduced. Puzzles grow more demanding not by adding unnecessary complexity, but by combining familiar elements in smarter, more intricate ways. While there are occasional spikes or solutions that feel slightly inelegant, most challenges reward patience and logical thinking, delivering a genuine sense of accomplishment when everything finally clicks into place. Replay value is modest but appropriate for the genre. ReThink is largely a linear experience, with its primary appeal lying in the act of solving puzzles for the first time rather than revisiting them. Once solutions are known, there is little mechanical incentive to return, but this is typical for tightly designed puzzle games and does not detract from the quality of the initial experience. Community reception reflects this focused design philosophy. Players who enjoy pure logic puzzles and methodical problem-solving tend to respond very positively, praising the clarity of mechanics and the fair difficulty curve. Criticism usually centers on the sparse narrative, repetitive visual environments, or comparisons to genre-defining titles with more elaborate storytelling. However, these comparisons often highlight differences in ambition rather than flaws in execution. Ultimately, ReThink is a game that knows exactly what it wants to be. It does not attempt to reinvent the puzzle genre or compete with narrative-heavy first-person adventures. Instead, it delivers a clean, disciplined experience built around light manipulation, spatial reasoning, and intellectual challenge. For players who value thoughtful puzzles, minimal distractions, and the quiet satisfaction of solving complex problems through logic alone, ReThink offers a consistently rewarding and well-crafted journey. Rating: 7/10
Nice puzzle games. Games was patched a lot and puzzles changed in 2018, dev has given option to launch original old version. I just played the new version with somewhat different puzzles. It goes on sale for under 1€ often so can recommend getting from sale if you like puzzle games. 100% is just completing the game.
This is a game of solving puzzles using the three primary colors of light. It is good to add another cube when I got used to one cube. The level of difficulty seems to come out in order from easy to difficult. As you can see from the title, there were times when I had to look at the answer from a different perspective. It is really enjoyable to me.
Straightforward puzzle game, in which your goal is to aim, mix and split laser beams in order to light up colored orbs. In the reworked version (for which this review is for) there are 38 levels with fixed laser cubes, increasing and balanced difficulty and new mechanics, but the basic gameplay is the same throughout the game. Pretty much sums it up, as there is no real story apart from some text in the beginning of the game and right after you beat all the levels. Since all the puzzles are solved using basically the same mechanic, the game can become repetitive and tedious, but I thoroughly enjoyed it by playing in short-to-medium bursts. The environments are cool looking, graphics are passable and colorful, the background music is perfectly relaxing and forgettable for this kind of game. It's an easy recommendation for hardcore puzzle fans (since there isn't much else apart from the puzzles themselves), especially since the game is often on a 90% sale. PS: There are guide videos, but I would advise against using them. I am not much of a puzzle gamer, but I found myself solving the majority of the puzzles without even understanding how I did it, which proves that the puzzles are highly intuitive and solvable. Even if you feel like you are horribly stuck at some of them, I recommend quitting and coming back to the puzzle later, with a clear head (there are endless save slots and you can save at any time, which really helps). I did this with a handful of puzzles and while the first times I tried for a long time to no avail, I solved them within 2-3 minutes upon returning to them.
Cool little puzzle game. Some of the levels are tough as hell, and some of them are pretty easy, even on the later levels. Though what I really liked the most wasn't the puzzles, but the overall art style. Very clean, modern, minimalist and "fresh". Just a joy to look at. And the soundtrack perfectly accompanies the game too. I can see this game being made simpler and more intuitive by making it a top-down perspective game, but honestly I'm glad the developer chose a fully 3D environment for the levels. Unfortunately, the game definitely could've been optimized better. For such a simple game, it really demands a lot from my PC. Definitely not for everyone, but overall, I definitely would recommend it if you like puzzle games in general.
Непогана пазл гра. Сюжету як такого нема, просто набір рівнів. Початкові рівні не дуже складні, але під кінець деякі рівні змусили таки довго подумати.
Chill puzzle game. The harder levels need some time to figure out but nothing impossible.
Rethink is a great puzzle game! Disclaimer: The story is completely pasted on and is literally just 2 lines of text, so if you play for story go play something else! With that out of the way, let's talk about why Rethink was absolutely awesome! First of all, Rethink is a logic puzzle. There are boxes that shoot lasers and boxes that redirect lasers in various directions. There are columns that need to be activated with laser of various colors to open the door to the next puzzle and for many of them you need to combine colors (or split colors). There are even interdependent puzzles where you need to solve puzzle A and B in a certain way to be able to complete puzzle C. On top of this, the game has a nice, relaxing soundtrack perfect for putting you in the puzzle solving *zone*. The game starts out fairly easy. Introducing concepts and giving you that feeling of being good at this. Nothing is hidden, nothing is obscure, the concepts are easy to grasp. The difficulty ramps up quickly, but the puzzles remain clean. There's no fake difficulty in having to search for something or discover something. There's no need for thinking outside the box, but you have to think deep *inside* the box, because some of these puzzles are HARD to solve. The best part? There's 5 additional games in the series! Oh, and if you find the game system a bit constrained, the creator has also created a 5-part game series called Rethink Evolved which is a logic/physics puzzle with more thinking *outside* the box. And if you don't like 1st person games, there is a similar type of game called Lightray, which is top down. The game took me just over 5 hours to complete and I felt like a certified genius on more than one occasion.
