A refreshingly designed puzzle game which is at its core a match-3 but which has more than enough variation and expansion on that core concept to not be just casually placed into the same genre without thought. If you're getting a Candy Crush vibe from the screenshots then you're on the right track, but instead of having to clear the entire screen by matching gems you're just creating a path for your mage to reach the end. Along the way you'll gain power-ups which perform certain actions, and encounter enemies which wander around the map generally being a pain by adding further obstruction to your attempts to reach the end which you can kill by matching gems on them or by using the relevant power-up. You also have various obstruction blocks which require you to match them more than once, or match certain colours nearby to fill a meter in them, and so on. Generally each level thankfully lacks that feeling you'll get in other match-3 games where it seems like you're at the mercy of the starting random gem placement and more that you could conceivably reach the end on the first try by judicious use of the power-ups that you're given for completing levels and by thinking ahead as much as the visible play area will allow. There's a story about some mages and why they're freeing some caged fairies each level but this isn't a Phillip K. D.ick adaptation it's a wrapper to give some agency to why you're traversing a level which you can only advance through by matching gems to clear a path. It's also nice to see a mobile game ported to PC which not only removes its IAPs but which also alters the game mechanics and difficulty appropriately to ensure that you're not troubled by a grind or otherwise frustration which would have been an attempt to get you to either buy the game (reasonable) or purchase power-ups (ala Candy Crush, which is unreasonable). I honestly don't know which this column this game sat in on mobile, I'm just aware that it was announced that the mobile IAPs would be removed for the PC release. You're given random power-ups to place onto any given level (randomly) as you progress, and if nothing else when you do inevitably have to retry a level you're at least treated to an adorably irritated mage who throws her (or his) wand to the ground in disgust. If this game appeals at all then you should at least give the demo a shot and see what you think, and if ten bucks seems on the high side then it would appear that during the many sales that occur on Steam they apply a 50% discount so it's definitely worth a closer look.
Once you start playing, you won't want to stop. Simple, but it forces you to think rationally. I recommend it!
Was ist damit gemeint?
This might be the worst game I've bought. First of all, When I entered the game and changed resolution(1920x1080), the game just crashed for many times. After I get in the game progress hardly , just crash, And Guess what? When I changed language option, It crashed again. After I leaved the game and entered again, the option all be reset. And I tried get in several time, my profile is gone ......It barely can played in the game, even though deleted the game and download again...same problem. It seems I can run the game normally when I use the original resolution option(not very sure), but it hurt my eyes........ I've play so many games and Don't encounter the situation. It exceed the refund deadline, or I'll refund it to get back my money.
Match-3 that’s more about creating a path than breaking random gems. The story is not important, but it provides a good cause to break gems. Essentially, magic has vanished from the world, and because the wizards are too old, it is now up to two apprentices to restore it. Magic comes in the shape of beautiful butterflies, which are the primary goal in puzzles. Puzzles use the traditional match-3 mechanic. All you have to do is swap two pieces to make a row or column with three or more jewels. If you have four or more gems, you will also receive a power-up that can remove entire rows or columns, as well as a bomb that destroys a large area. Instead of breaking the requisite amount of various gems, you simply need to shatter enough to clear a passage for the apprentice to reach the cage. The shape or direction of the path is irrelevant, but a stage must be finished in a limited number of moves. The game does not feature any upgrades or side-activities, and merely progresses through stages. What you do receive are five powers, each after about 20 stages. They must be charged up by matching gems of a specific color, but they can save a lost situation. If you want, you can retry old stages with all of your powers and try to get all three stars.
Seeing innovation in a gaming genre is always something I look for in a game. This is especially true for one that usually doesn’t try to break the mold. Rescue Quest Gold, while it does have a lot of the same tropes it also does try to be its own game. This is most certainly a breath of fresh air in a sea of Bejeweled clones. And I have to say that this innovation is something I could see myself return to on a semi-regular basis. http://cliqist.com/2017/09/18/rescue-quest-gold-mixes-magic-match-3/
This game was a ton of fun, and the community behind it made it even better. I ended up 100%ing the game and it was definitely satisfying to take my video of "look I did it!" back to the Boomzap family to celebrate. There is enough of a story that it doesn't feel like a plain match-3 grind, and the types of levels are varied enough that you shouldn't ever get TOO terribly comfortable with a particular style of level. The map generation honestly makes the game feel more like a strategy game with elements of procedural generation, since your starting layout of tile colors is going to be different each time and for those 1-tile corridors it's going to have some clutch RNG moments. It's not a plain Jane Bejeweled arcade game, but to a certain level you can treat it that way if you prefer. All in all, a really fun time sink.
