Repent offers a robust and captivating story. Everything takes place in and around the Colony Tower, played from the perspective of a former police officer. He gets a new job, and here you're carrying out tasks from his viewpoint, handling various duties inside the Colony Tower, mainly just maintenance around the building. The tasks are simple, and there has been done a good job to prevent the tasks from feeling repetitive, even though you carry out some of the same tasks multiple times. Each chapter is split into working days (nightshifts), and every day introduces new parts to the story, as well as some paranormal events and different customers/residents that you can interact with. In total, we get to go through 7 working days (nightshifts). The visual fidelity (for this specific graphics style) is quite impressive. Lighting is also done really well in all rooms and areas. I found the controls to be pretty easy to pick up, and it didn't take long before everything became a fluid experience. The horror elements are relatively balanced, with a good mixture of some atmospheric scares and some subtle jumpscares every now and then. For me, the second playthrough didn't really re-trigger any feelings/scares since you pretty much become familiar with all the horror elements in your first playthrough (There are no random events/triggers). After playing through it, what has left the biggest mark on me has to be the story. It's highly immersive since you can "dive deeper" into it, if you wish to. You are able to engage in deeper conversations with many of the customers/residents, unlocking different paths and, ultimately, multiple endings. Repent offers a fluid experience. Everything feels seamless, and most mechanics act the way they are intended to. It's a very enjoyable experience. A point of critique or feedback for improvement from my side would be the interactions on objects. It seems that you have to be almost on top of things to grab them or interact; sometimes I "checked" for interactions by standing next to objects, then moved on and marked them as "checked" in my own mind, since no interaction display were presented. Only to find out when searching the room back and forth that I had missed previous points I had already checked off. I'm not entirely sure, but I feel like this comes down to the general range of which interactions are carried out. Another thing I noticed regarding interaction is that sometimes you have to deal with the same object twice — but you can't press "E" the second time you interact with the same object without resetting your POV. You would have to press "E" -> look away from the object -> look back at the object -> press "E" again to interact the second time. It's nothing major, but I think this deserves to be improved upon, since I at least noticed a small amount of frustration. All in all, Repent feels like a heavily overlooked game. It is a solid game. Hardly any flaws, mostly just a captivating story that gets pretty deep and emotional. Significant levels of visual fidelity, considering its graphic style and a good mix of horror elements. I really appreciate the amount of effort the developers have put into this game. When you're playing this, it will be easy to spot their level of attention to detail. They did a super good job in so many areas. I highly recommend this game if you're into narrative-driven horrors. EDIT: Found an interesting missing/overlooked feature while I was messing around in the settings, it allows for some terrifying missclicks on the "exit" button. There are no further confirmation on the button. If you touch that button by mistake, you risk losing all your progress. I learned the hard way. Just wanted to leave this here as a potential suggestion for the developer to look into it. The gameplay itself is expected for any short indie horror game but the unexpected was the engaging narrative. Repent slowly feed you the story at a good pace with good closure for its ending while making you brown your socks. The tasks might seem repetitive at first, but they were a good distraction at the beginning of every day while trying to push back the eminent dread i suffered since i really don't do well with horror games. Also taking the trash out probably ended being meaningful, Industrial Trash Bin MVP all i got to say . I'll give it a 7.5/10
I played up to day 2. What I played was solid. We are a night shift guard that has various tasks to do per shift but have to deal with the patrons as well as creepy happenings. I'd have liked to hear some voice over work but what we got is fine. Graphically it is fine also. Didn't notice too many bugs. It got annoyin makin sure that the elevator door was closed tho lol. I do plan to play it more. Doesn't break the bank too much. Gameplay Impressions: https://youtu.be/-Cs7zTRpwvM
The game is solid and introduces new interesting characters at a steady pace that matches your progression. The environment is nicely set and helps build tension. There is also a well engineered sound that matches the visuals. Can really recommend this games to the fans of the genre.
This is an excellently put together game by just two developers (brothers?) and stirs a great slow-burn mystery amongst the daily grind at the apartment complex you work at. Thoroughly recommend this. It has multiple endings and side tasks as well as the main storyline so plenty of replayability too
Really enjoyed playing through this game. The story and game mechanics were good. I appreciated the different characters and their personalities. Solid scares throughout the game too. If you enjoy indie horror, I def recommend!
Good spooker experience. Lots of atmosphere building and a some well paced jumpscares. Tried out of couple of endings and overall Id say its worth a playthrough. 100% would recommend it for a spooky season game Hoping to see more from these Devs!
