I'd never played nor heard of this game until today, but I like Turrican so I figured I'd give it a shot. Long story short, it's amazing. Pure badassery from beginning to end, and even with the rewind feature it's tougher than a two dollar steak. I tip my cap all the way to the floor to anyone who played this on the original hardware and completed it. Unreal. Give it a shot please! FULL PLAYTHROUGH: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAdwLmwWw-Y
Rare SNES or rather Super Famicom classic brought to modern platforms including PC. Thanks Limit Run Games, Ziggurat and Rainbow Arts! Plays well and looks great.
WOW!!!! I was super shocked when I found out that this game got a rerelease. For those who don't know, this is one of those games that pushed a game console to it's limit. In this case, the SNES. Some games on SNES would have special chips for graphical effects (Like Mega Man X2 and X3, which uses the CX4 Chip, creating Wire Frames for certain bosses.) and required some additional PIN connectors because of it. Google image it and you will see what I mean. Anyway, so this impressive (and expensive) Super Famicom (Japanese only) exclusive game has two graphic styles: one is the more traditional "2D animated" look and the other is the Donkey Kong Country-styled prerendered 3D graphics look. I should point out that the person behind the Turrican series, Manfred Trenz, was behind this title. A quick fact: the Turrican series was known for pushing the limits of their respective games' consoles (Mega Turrican is a great example because some of the effects used in that game were basically stuff that the SNES would do such as rotation, that weird low resolution effect that a lot of the SNES games loved to do, and scaling.). So you see that this game has two modes: Run and Gun and Horizontal Shoot-em up. Your wondering: what genre is this game mostly use? Well, it's half RNG and the other is HSU. There are 9 levels in this game and it will be going back and forth on them. All I can say is get good. If you are not a fan of either of these, this is a game you might want to pass on. Gameplay wise it's pretty good. I do have a couple of problems with it though. One, like the Turrican titles, you can't really tell sometimes when you are taking damage. A sound effect would really help instead of a quick flicker letting you know you got hurt (the ship shakes a little but sometimes you aren't paying attention to it because of obstacles in front of you). The other complaint I have is for the Shoot em up sections, you can change speed via select button but I can't tell what speed I am at because the game doesn't say which one you are at. So I have to move the ship and see what speed I am at. Now clearly, the original developers are probably not around anymore, so I can't make any recommendations to them saying "fix this and fix that." Do I like this game? OH HELL YEAH I LOVE IT! This is one of those games that I would of called a classic had it been released here (the Western version would of been called "Targa," which sounds like a main villian of an old 80s cartoon (but not in a good way)). If you like Turrican or Contra and like Shoot em ups, get this game! you will not regret it.
Good game, really enjoy the run n gun gameplay, picks up a gear for the shoot em up sections which are my favourite. The emulation is decent, a few flickering sprites but nothing bad. The package is a bare bones affair with bog standard options like rewind, save and load. The crt filter is really poor. The game works perfect on Steamdeck. Its a classic game which is one of the harder/expensive titles to obtain. Its well worth the asking price even if it is a bare bones package.
TLDR: Play Contra this game sucks ass! I love classic games, but this one was all youtuber hype and graphics, but the stages, enemies, and somewhat the controls just suck or are super boring. The graphics are not worth looking at in order to suffer from boring music, stages, enemies, and balance...my goodness if I bought this from Funcoland back in the day, I'd ask for a refund; IT SUCKS!
A classic. Stand aim works like Super Metroid. L1, R1. Enjoy!
....... \_☠_ ▄▂_ .........[█|||███████]▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▃▂ ..__▂▅█ Mafia do Retrogame █▅▄▃▂ I███████████████████████████] ...◥⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙◤ CANAL MAFIA DO RETROGAME - YOUTUBE @mafiadoretrogame https://www.youtube.com/@mafiadoretrogame GAMEPLAY ATÉ ZERAR! https://youtu.be/3KGlPc8Wqic
Okay, to WHO THE HELL EVER actually** beat this game, legit, is a liar. Between stages 6 and 7 is becomes quite apparent that you're at the final boss. I mean, considering how difficult it was to even get to those bosses. Stage 8 and 9 are SADISTIC. I could *not* imagine someone constantly putting quarters in this thing and actually came out happy they've played it. The rewind feature is, hardly helpful. This game is so stretched out and the levels to squeeze through the worlds smallest tunnels. And the worst part, after you lose all your lives out of frustration, even with using rewind. There is no continue. Nope, just a straight up GAME OVER. Okay, ouch.....I love my Shmups...but this is terrible.
