RED SEA is a really strange beast. This game is definitely not for me, but I'm giving it a positive review because it's a cool game, not a bad one. That's a pretty big distinction to make. I think the game has some really unique gameplay, and some really interesting mechanics. Consider an MMO style boss fight; but now instead of fighting it with your friends you're controlling every class at once in real time. It's a cool style I haven't seen anywhere else, it was just too dense for me to personally understand. It seems really well polished and responsive, and the screenshots don't do the low-poly aesthetic justice in my opinion. I think it's worth checking out if you're tired of the "same-old" because it doesn't really play like anything I've played before. If you're interested in a slightly more detailed review (or just seeing it in action, though I'm terrible at it), here's my video on it: https://youtu.be/rL1qywvr4PU
While I really wished there were more games with the FF12 "gambit"-like system, scripting your characters' fighting ahead of time, it falls apart quick when they're blatantly not abiding by the formula you've configured. For instance, I have a "switch target only on command", a default setting, and my Samurai blatantly tries to run off and attack two enemies standing on the other side of the arena. Something like this really needs to be clean and refined and 100% reliable. That's why it's been heard by some of the devs on FF12 that they'll never make a game like that again. Why? Because it's not easy to get right. FF12 got this right. If you like scripted battles? Go play FF12 Zodiac Age.
