I have scopophobia! Is this a bad game? No! Did I enjoy the game? Not really 😅 It's visually impressive. I originally bought the game on the Quest when it came out. But because I'm a scaredy cat I wasn't able to finish it. So this was now my third attempt to play through it. Now that I have finished this game, I can say that this is at the level of Batman Arkham VR (the first Batman VR game), good visuals, bunch of random puzzles, figuring out how to control the grappler, and short! Having to use the universal translator on everything...and I mean everything in the game, gave me PTSD! If you have no problems with dark spaces, the ability to be calm when having a wait on the DOS text to show up, and be able to withstand unnecessary creepy music. Then this game is for you. Buy it on sale! Like a real sale like 90% off!
Red Matter is an old-school VR puzzle game that’s surprisingly polished and well focused on what it wants to deliver. The intro is short and the controls are explained quickly, and then the story that is actually interesting starts. The puzzles are well balanced, not too hard, not too easy and they never break the flow of the game. Everything feels intentionally designed, without unnecessary filler or downtime. Visually, the game still looks good for its age, even though it can’t compete with newer VR titles anymore. That said, the game has two big problems: - It’s extremely short. I finished it in about 2.5 hours with 100% achievements, without rushing and while fully exploring every area. - There is no replay value. Once you’ve solved the puzzles, there’s no real reason to come back unless you missed an achievement. Overall, Red Matter is a well-made VR puzzle game and a nice throwback to the early days of VR. But it’s simply too short and too expensive for what it offers, even during sales. If you’re looking for a focused puzzle experience with a decent story, it’s worth playing, just don’t buy it at full price.
