Dev updated easy mode turret reaction times to be much more manageable for my boomer reflex and eyesight and I got around to beating it on easy. Getting better at normal+, still cbt, but you learn to enjoy the pain. Alright game, niche audience. Still needs work, particularly with sanity checks on where things can spawn. Inspired by Receiver, but hardcore for the wrong reason IMO. - The wide open map allows turrets to easily spot and fire on you without any half decent warning outside it's alerted beep .25sec before it swiss cheeses you. [Dev was kind enough to change this in easy mode, so you can recover from your mistakes. Thank you.] - The only spotlights that light anything up are your light and the robo dropship's. So unlike Receiver you get little visual advanced warning unless you invest a good chunk of dust(or get lucky with box upgrades) in radar range. - Bots are all similar color as the environment, shades gray and hard to make out at times. + Dust is Money, Dust is Life. + No annoying "tap "w" to run". + Multiple ammo types to find and buy are great and help change things up, or come in handy for difficult situations. + Different pistols with different stats and different sights for differing pictures to help aim. + Poster art is decent. ? The Cat Girls are uncanny though. They give me the heebie jeebies. I think it's the cat meow. Game's a decent receiver-like with it's own twist on resource management and setting, but it's rough and unpolished. TL;DR: WHY ARE YOU SO PAINFUL? LET ME LOVE YOU ARGH
So this game turned out to be a very different kind of game, it is a realistic shooter that is quite difficult, you cant miss targets in your enemies, although i think price is high as compared to the quality it provides but enjoyable.
Red Dust takes the expanded FPS gun handling from Receiver (the need to collect, manage, and load bullet supply manually, along with correctly handling your weapon) and tries to make a decent game out of the formula. Unfortunately, Red Dust still manages to fumble the landing: There's no in-game menu to see or change controls (this is a huge issue in a game with such complex weapon handling), currency gain is stingy as hell and it's also your health, the map will occasionally black out in a fantastic example of style compromising playability, and a number of enemies are basically instant hits on you up close even on easy. The last point is particularly frustrating. I was willing to make do with everything else, but each time I feel like I'm starting to get a handle on the game I find myself dying in some new way to an enemy I either couldn't see in time (some mines are placed on walls at angles where you really need to watch for a few seconds of red flash out of the corner of your eye or your screwed), or I made a mistake that allowed a melee enemy to get close and now I either cannot make enough space to deal with them or I get machine gunned to death trying. Red Dust comes the closest to a playable game I've ever seen in terms of shooters focused on simulating gun mechanics. It's still not landing the hit, though.
This game reminds me of receiver and i like it a lot, the game is hard, very hard but i have the feeling that im improving evrery run and that make me want to continue playing it even more. I think the games still needs more features like: -you don't have to always aim (like right click to aim and right click+shift to zoom) also would like to lean while aiming. (thanks for ading it btw ^^) -Crouching. -chose multiple strarting weapon . besides that the game is very good and would like to watch it get even better.
This game is highly enjoyable but rough around the edges. Pros: -Headpat catgirls -Freely mixable ammo types -Red dust resource forces some hard decisions -Good Enemy types that keep you on your toes Cons: -Level is a bit too dark even outside an eclipse -Enemies are hard to detect (They have a dim white searchlight that has no real cone) -No big indoor complexes to clear Nitpicks / Nice to haves for Red Dust 2: -Enemies in RD have a weakpoint but no component failure modes like in Receiver this makes the gun play feel lacking -Movement is walk, sprint and jump. As a robo catgirl some basic parkour would be nice like crouch and climbing -Action button is inconsistent: Open containers, pull levers and grab dust is on F but shop buttons work with left mouse
game is extremely buggy and not worth your time. cant even tell you what you were supposed to do in it.
I wish I could recommend this game, but it really, really needs a revamp of its color palette. This game is clearly, heavily inspired by Receiver, so I'm going to point out what Receiver does well that Red Dust doesn't. Like, I get it. It's a space slum. Bare metal, plants growing out of dust drifts, sure. Thing is, Receiver 1 and 2 were very careful in their use of color and contrast. Receiver 1 has neutral, dark pastels for most of its environments, and dark environments will have turrets that are loud enough to tell where they are-and very few environments open enough to leave you without cover. On top of this, Turrets are multicolored, and Drones are a shade of off-white that doesn't blend in anywhere. Receiver 2 makes all its environments realistic enough that it's rare for turrets or drones to NOT pop against a background, and a room with enough darkness to act as camo is something you can prepare for. On top of this, Turrets and Drones alike now put out light cones in darkness, and their colors contrast even harder. In RD, you're either in a very tight corridor with nil ability to maneuver, or a wide-open space where you can get ganked at random with no warning. I can respect the "money is health" system, now that I've developed the maturity to say "easy is just a label, what matters with games is having fun," but when your ability to progress at all is impeded by your ability to play "spot the pixel" when the pixel is a slightly different shade of gray, then yeah, no, I'm done.
Not for the faint of heart! Game is fun and focuses on Gun handling and reloading, has random generated levels and is super hardcore for no reason which sucks the fun out of it. game mechanics are most of the times janky and some parts of the game require you to have some modules installed and to buy those modules you gotta spend your health becasue your money is your health and if you buy too much you'll just die in one hit and if you don't you'll probably run out of ammo before reaching the quest, and the quest itself gets bugged a lot and blocked me from progression. the only plus this game has (which i bought it for) are cats. you rescue cats. brain go happy. you die to a random mine. you sad. bad game.
Very similar shooting mechanics to receiver and very different atmosphere and setting than receiver as well. I very much like how loading bullets is done and the feature of different types of ammo. The game needs some improvement to the text on your character when loading bullets into magazines, its a little hard to read the text due to the bloom. I also hope the dev plans to add some ambiance or music to the levels, the game feels kind of bland without something to listen to in the background. Edit: After playing a little more, I noticed the lack of footsteps when walking, would help a lot if the player can hear feedback when walking and running Edit 2: An update came out with an improved tutorial and a upgrade system. The upgrade system is very helpful when it comes to gun control and makes shooting at weakpoints easier. I think my problem with the text bloom was fixed.
