It plays like a lower-budget Russian Half-Life 2 clone from the 2000’s era. The game has decent gunplay, lots of secrets and easter eggs hidden around every corner and offers some replay value with different game modes. In my experience it ran without any technical issues and no crashes (which isn’t always the case for games like these) + there’s decent amount of customisation in the game’s settings, from FoV slider to being able to open developer’s console for further adjustments. On more negative side, graphics and art direction is rather inconsistent with some interiors looking really good even by today’s standards while some outdoor areas look like they’ve been made 20 years ago, I’ve also noticed few times how the enemies spawned right next to me and on few occasions AI just stopped working completely. Also the campaign/story is about 2-3 hours long and voice acting ranges from “okay” to “really bad” (which is understandable given that the game was made by like 5 people). I’ve bought it on a sale for less than £4 and I’d give it about 7/10 score at that price range, its worth checking out if you’re looking for some “oldschool” shooter to play for few days.
Отличная игра на пару вечеров. Очень приятная шутерная механика, и оч крутая атмосфера
As a Half-Life fanboy, I, of course, really enjoy Red Alliance. It doesn't try to hide its influences, nor tries to change a winning formula, it's just a really solid indie FPS, which has some issues one should expect from an ambitious project like this made with a small budget and a small team. These issues include some engine jank like physics going crazy and the game running internally at 60FPS despite having no issues with 144hz, so it ends up feeling... weird to play, you get used to it though. The (english) voice acting is atrocious but the writing doesn't make it cringe, I gotta give a shout-out to the main antagonist's actor who has some hilarious deliveries. I fully recommend this game if you're a fan of Half-Life 2 and shooters of this era, and even as a fan of shooters in general, I recommend it. It's a very good game. Congrats to the devs !
Really fun, though slightly janky (but in an enjoyable way). Genuinely thought this ran on Source when I started it. Had a good time with it, will probably replay this at some point to get the other unlockables and secrets :)
i would say its a good game on 5 or 6 out of 10 weapons are great so far and alot of Easter eggs too - map design are ok and some are familiar too - story is basic and short and voice acting need to be changed , its not bad its just feels like its skyrim voice acting and ai eh ok. so i would buy it when its goes to sale and its not bad game too but feels need story to be longer that all.
Игра просто отличная ! Похожа на Half-Life, но без монстров, что мне очень понравилось. Атмосферная. Жаль,что таких игр очень мало, ещё "Зной" знаю и всё .
A nice little game, I liked it. Towards the end it is a bit too much horror/suspense for my tast but the rest is very nice.
Picked this up after seeing it on SGDQ and had a great time! Solid level design, punchy gun play, hilarious voice acting, honestly the only issue I have is that I wish it was longer.
Не слушайте тех, кто говорит, что эта игра похожа на халфу. Может совсем немного есть визуала вначале и модельки врагов очень похожи, но во всем остальном эта игра, извините, трэшевата.
If a game can nail the fundamentals, a lot of mediocrity and outright flaws can be overlooked or even forgiven. Red Alliance is almost one of those games. First off, this is a very, very modest game. It's has some fairly nice graphics, even if the art design does come off as fairly generic, and the gunplay is solid. But everything else about this game just comes off as cheap, almost as if it was a Half-Life 2 mod. I say that not only because the game feels and looks a lot like that game, but also the structure of the game in identical, with linear levels strung together with loading screens, with some hidden ammo and health caches sprinkled around. Also, the voice acting and actual story is actively horrible. Some voice performances are better than others, but they are all in service of a campy narrative involving sci fi soldiers and a plot to take over the world. If I wanted to be mean, I'd call those aspects lazy, but that doesn't feel fair as the game does have some quality to it. The gunplay is very, very solid. I wish controller support came with auto aim, but even without it, it was a lot of fun popping headshots and scrambling to cover. The game is tough to, with only a few enemies being enough to wipe you out instantly if you are caught out in the open. This, and the pretty extreme ammo scarcity, drive the stakes of combat way up, and therefore makes every downed for all the more impactful. Plus, since there are no hitmarkers to let you know when you've hit something, it forces you to look for the drop of the enemies headlamps and listen for their death grunts. The lack of hitmarkers to tidily let me know when an enemy is down forced me to be a bit more situationally aware in gunfights, and that was a fun, though subtle, change for me. Also, while these environments are absolutely places I have seen before, they do some interesting things with level design that keeps the pacing nice a novel. One mission you're outdoors in the snow with a drivable buggy. The next you're sneaking through a compound whiteout alerting any enemies. The next your shooting (not) zombies in a haunted laboratory. The game switches up gameplay scenarios, weapons, and set piece fights enough that it remains fun for it's short 5 hour runtime. And that playtime might be a bit generous, as I did spend some time going off the beaten path to find those hidden crates I mentioned earlier. I know this game isn't high art or anything, but I had fun with it. Sure, almost every bit of it has been done at least slightly better in another shooter like F.E.A.R. or Half-Life 2. But I still think this studio did a damn good job. If you want a fun 5 hours, and are ready to lean into or ignore a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story, maybe give this one a shot once it's on sale.
