Played On: HTC Vive
From developer/publisher Limitless Ltd, creators of the well-received interactive short film Gary the Gull, comes Reaping Rewards; a game that's all about life and death decisions, in the literal sense. Players take on the roll of what can only be described as a "junior grim reaper", who is being shown the ropes by a towering superior through three brief, although meaningful, interactions. The gameplay in Reaping Rewards is simple enough; to take a life, gamers must take the ill-fated characters by the hand until they breathe their last breath. There are three different interactions, and you have the choice of either taking the life of the person, or opening the hospital door. Ultimately, your choices do affect the outcome of the game, and subsequently whether or not you receive an ending at all. It's worth it to go through the 6-8 minute game a couple of times to see what happens in either scenario. It's worthwhile to talk about the graphics here, which are extremely close to any recent Pixar animated film. The people who lay on their death beds are very well detailed, down to the point that you can actually see them breathing. More notably, the hulking grim reaper figure is a malevolent sight to behold, and he's made all the more eerie by the black smoke that surrounds him; not to mention his giant scythe and overall massive model. For a short and free title, Reaping Rewards is worth setting aside 10 minutes to experience. Though the game is not especially moving in any way, it's incredible just to see such a ghastly figure towering over you, and in turn you unsure of what he may or may not do to you if you fail to comply with his commands. It's less charming and far more depressing than Gary the Gull, but it still boasts the same well-fleshed out quality. Reaping Rewards, hikayeye dahil olmak için hareket kontrol cihazlarını kullanarak duygusal seçimler yapacağınız etkileşimli bir VR kısa anlatımıdır (yaklaşık süre 6-8 dakika).
Reaping Rewards is an interactive VR short narrative where you will make emotional choices using motion controllers to engage with the story (approximate duration 6-8 min). It worked on my HTC Vive, Quest 3 via Steam Link, and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. There are good and bad ending in this experience. Try it, you might like it.
Although it is short, it is a good VR Experience
The message and emotions it gets across are really powerful. However... I am quite disappointed it is so short... It could be so much more if they added more to the story rahter than just visiting the 3 people
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers. Spoiler-free Review
This is a ~6 minute VR mostly cinematic experience. You do have some interactions, but they are minimal. The interactions are the choices you'll be making in the story. I don't want to give out any spoilers, but needless to say you'll be making some touch choices. If you make the right choice(s) you'll be rewarded with an extra scene. Unfortunately, there is an ubrupt ending otherwise so it doesn't really feel like a choice. This should have been a better experience, but somehow it didn't reach its mark. It could be the very paltry dialogue or how you're basically doing the same thing three times. It's difficult to have any emotional impact under those circumstances. The graphics are decent and you can tell a lot of work went into this. Just wish it had been better directed and maybe better written as well. Rate 6/10.
While the experience is short, I am happy that I played this! I found it rather unique and was struck emotionally. Seeing death in VR is much more powerful than on flat screen. Especially when you are the one helping with the killing. Not to say that this is a violent game where you murder people! You play as a reaper helping people move on. I'm happy that there are two endings. Not much choice but the fact that there is at least one definitely helps.
