Re:DESTINY is a fantasy role-playing adventure developed by D-Ark Studio and published by Secret Labo that blends puzzle gameplay, visual novel storytelling, and light RPG mechanics into a distinctive package. Inspired by Japanese mythology and set during the Heian era, the game places players in the role of an exorcist whose life takes an unexpected turn after death grants an opportunity to rewrite fate. From that point onward, the story unfolds through encounters with supernatural beings, dangerous enemies, and a colorful cast of heroines, creating an adventure centered on destiny, redemption, and personal growth. Rather than relying on familiar RPG conventions alone, the game embraces several genres to create an experience that feels fresh within its niche. One of the game's defining features is its battle system, which replaces traditional turn-based commands with match-three puzzle mechanics. Players connect colored gems to unleash attacks, activate magical abilities, and defend against hostile creatures. Although the concept is easy to understand, battles become increasingly strategic as stronger enemies demand better planning and more efficient combinations. Character progression, equipment upgrades, and skill improvements further enhance the gameplay loop, ensuring that success depends not only on quick puzzle-solving but also on thoughtful preparation. The system remains accessible to newcomers while offering enough variety to keep puzzle RPG enthusiasts engaged throughout the campaign. The narrative is equally important to the overall experience. Re:DESTINY places considerable emphasis on dialogue, allowing players to build relationships with several unique characters while gradually uncovering the mysteries surrounding the world and its supernatural conflicts. The setting draws heavily from traditional Japanese folklore, introducing spirits, demons, and mystical traditions that help distinguish the game from more conventional fantasy adventures. Each major character receives enough screen time to develop a recognizable personality, and the interactions between the protagonist and the heroines add emotional depth that extends beyond simple romantic subplots. While some story developments follow familiar anime-inspired themes, the historical backdrop and mythology provide enough originality to keep the journey engaging. Visually, the game delivers attractive anime-inspired artwork that complements its storytelling. Character illustrations are expressive and detailed, making conversations feel lively despite the visual novel presentation. The environments successfully capture both the elegance of historical Japan and the eerie atmosphere of locations influenced by supernatural forces. During combat, colorful effects accompany puzzle matches and special abilities without overwhelming the screen, creating satisfying visual feedback for every successful move. Combined with an appropriate soundtrack that shifts naturally between peaceful moments and intense confrontations, the presentation effectively supports both the narrative and gameplay. The progression system encourages players to continue experimenting with different strategies while steadily improving their characters. New equipment, enhanced abilities, and increasingly challenging opponents ensure that advancement feels meaningful rather than repetitive. Although the core puzzle mechanics remain consistent throughout the adventure, the RPG elements help maintain a sense of growth as players overcome stronger enemies and advance through the story. This combination of accessible gameplay and gradual progression makes the experience approachable without sacrificing long-term engagement. Despite its many strengths, Re:DESTINY does have a few limitations. Players looking for a deep tactical RPG or a fast-paced action experience may find the match-three combat somewhat repetitive after extended sessions. Likewise, the dialogue-heavy structure occasionally slows the pacing, particularly for those more interested in gameplay than story. Some narrative elements also rely on familiar genre conventions that seasoned visual novel fans may recognize immediately. However, these shortcomings do little to diminish the game's appeal for its intended audience, as the focus has always been on delivering an enjoyable blend of storytelling, puzzles, and character progression. Overall, Re:DESTINY succeeds by combining several genres into a cohesive and entertaining experience. Its fusion of puzzle combat, role-playing progression, visual novel storytelling, and Japanese folklore creates a game that stands apart from more traditional RPGs. Players who appreciate narrative-driven adventures, anime-inspired characters, and strategic puzzle gameplay will likely find plenty to enjoy throughout the journey. While it may not revolutionize any individual genre, it effectively balances its various elements to create a memorable adventure that rewards both patience and strategy. Rating: 7/10
