A pleasant little hoot
This and Ravva 1 (Cyclops Curse) are perfectly fine little afternoon distractions that feel a little held back by...I don't want to say a lack of ambition, but I feel like they could be just a little more than they are, even given how Galope Studios is just a 2 person team. They're short in a way that leaves you wanting more - almost too much so, and you can see the potential that's there if they just leaned into it. Unfortunately, it just doesn't seem like there's enough there to set it apart from other 'retro revivals' to give it enough attention and love to afford that? The games are fun, simple, short and sweet and don't last long enough to feel repetitive or make their problems feel worse than they are. The music is solid, the NES-styled art is colorful, contrasts well and is and charming, and I like that each of the different familiars sorta have their own little personality, even if it's subtle. I think it'd be worth leaning into that more in the future - you have decently cute character designs, lean into that and maybe even give them dialogue. The main problem with Ravva as a series so far is arguably the yellow bat familiar and what it does to the game design, which is supposed to reveal secrets. It's a really bizarre mechanic that just leaves you constantly spamming it whenever you're not attacking or breaking tiles to reveal powerups and coins, with that squeaky ping noise going off over and over and over. It's a neat idea, but the execution is frankly pretty bad and there HAS to be a better way to handle this, if not just completely dropping the idea entirely and just putting secrets behind actually exploring the levels and finding hidden paths on your own. I THINK in Ravva 1 you could sometimes use it as a shield, which was nice? That's a better use for it than this. I can appreciate a game for keeping its scope small and not trying to be anything more than it is, but Ravva feels like it could be so much more - a few more mechanics and some rethought ones could go a long way. I wish I had more to talk about, but there really isn't much there - these are just short and sweet little games.
Does exactly what any good sequel should do. While I enjoyed the original Ravva, it is a little short, lacks in replay-ability and has some frustrating elements. Phantom Library has a much cleaner aesthetic while still keeping the 8-bit element, the goals in each level act as a great incentive. Game-play overall feels tighter, and the introduction of the newer elements is a fun addition. Whatever issues I have are very small (no health bar for bosses, maybe a bit too easy), and I'm glad such a small team brought the character back for another round. Great stuff
Ravva and the Phantom Library - Uma boa e competente continuação.
Vale a Pena Recomendar? =)
Amazing little game. I really enjoy this. I think what I like most about it is there are several ways to enjoy Ravva and the Phantom Library. Getting through the levels is fun on its own, but there's also a targeted number of coins to collect, blocks to destroy, and enemies to defeat. Add in a speed run mode and even more challenging difficulties, and the game has a lot of ways to keep you entertained. As someone who enjoys retro-styled pixel art, Ravva hits all the notes I enjoy too. The animations of Ravva and the enemies are adorable and fluid, and all the level design, cutscenes, and menus fit perfectly with the style. Honestly it's just a really well-made, adorable little game that doesn't demand a ton of hardcore skill to get through. It's just really fun to play, with great graphics, atmosphere, and objectives.
Ravva and the Phantom Library me surpreendeu bastante. Recomendo demais!
A very quaint and fun little game with amazing NES inspired sprite art Short but sweet with a lot of soul in this action platformer, you can feel how much love and passion the (I'm assuming small) dev team put into this
Very cute and fun game. It’s a nice, compact game with good art and a lot of polish. I had a lot of fun doing all the challenges and getting all the achievements (though I still can't find that programmer with the cats...) I do have a couple criticisms though: 1. Playing on the steam deck feels great, the style of game works really well (plus the art looks great on an OLED screen). But the default control scheme isn’t compatible with that config window that shows up before you start the game and I had to rejig my settings a bit to hit “play” 2. Cycling through the summons can be a little tedious. I’m not sure how you would fix this and retain the retro feel though, but I wouldn’t mind if there were button shortcuts or a radial menu or something. 3. The music is well-written (I noticed the main motif in all the songs!! I see you!!) but the instrumentation got repetitive. Though that might just be me. Other than that, it’s a great time and I appreciate the dev is turning it into a series with frequent entries. Definitely looking forward to the next one
Ravva and the Phantom Library, pega as ideias do primeiro jogo e dá uma refinada principalmente na dificuldade do primeiro Enquanto o primeiro jogo lembra algo do NES com uma dificuldade mais alta, esse segundo jogo vc tem barra de life e o ritmo dele é bem mais agradável que o primeiro jogo, se você teve alguma dificuldade no primeiro jogo saiba que nesse dificilmente passara sufoco já que existe itens de cura / checkpoints nas fases / tudo para deixar mais acessível a uma maior quantidade de pessoas A ideia dos mundos tbm é mais legal pois ao invés de mundos divididos em 1-1 / 1-2 / 1-3 são 6 mundos baseados em livros mágicos e cada um com uma temática diferente e uma boss battle única e diferente em cada fase a trilha sonora lembra bastante a do primeiro (afinal é o mesmo tema, com algumas diferenças entre as fases pra se ajustar ao tema dela) Pelo baixo preço recomendo fácil o jogo, é claramente uma evolução do primeiro, tenho curiosidade de ver pra onde vai a franquia e se existirá um terceiro jogo do Ravva Parabéns ao time de devs
