About
Rat Hunter is a traditional first-person shooter set in a hi-tech environment. It does not push the envelope or bring something fresh to the genre, since we feel that there is little place for innovation in today's action games market. It is, however, solid, polished and smart. Developers lay the emphasis on original ideas in visualization and gameplay design. The action takes place on a remote planet, which is located in a G-class star system. Its gravity, atmosphere and other conditions are pretty much the same as on Earth. The planet is rich in minerals, and the low depth of occurrence allows for strip mining.
The main character of the game is a freelance reporter who started an independent investigation in order to expose the truth behind the disappearances of workers of a corporate facility. The installation, located on a remote planet, is a primary research site for ROOM, a highly potent "miracle drug". During the game, players will have the chance to use various mechanisms (turrets, cranes) and drives vehicles such as bikes and buggies.
Rat Hunter features traditional, by-the-book gameplay, which does not wander into the realm of tactical shooters. Players will have to overcome different obstacles and solve various puzzles in order to get to the next level. They will also get to shoot monsters, but there is no goal such as "Kill everyone"; the adversaries are just a device to maintain the tension and further the story. The advanced physics engine used in the game allows to create a highly interactive environment.

Rat Hunter is a distinctly old-school science-fiction shooter developed by Secret Sign and published by Strategy First, originally released in the mid-2000s and later resurfacing on Steam for a new audience. It is a game that wears its era openly, drawing heavily from the design philosophy of classic first-person shooters where momentum, atmosphere, and experimentation mattered more than cinematic spectacle or tightly scripted set pieces. Rather than chasing modern trends, Rat Hunter commits to a straightforward blend of combat, exploration, and light problem-solving that emphasizes player agency within a hostile sci-fi environment. The story places the player in the role of an investigator sent to a remote planet to look into suspicious corporate activity and unexplained disappearances. While the narrative is not the primary focus, it provides enough context to frame the action and establish a sense of unease. Corporate greed, unethical experimentation, and mutation-driven horror form the backbone of the setting, and much of the storytelling is conveyed through environmental cues, logs, and voiceovers rather than lengthy cutscenes. This restrained approach allows the player to stay immersed in the world without constantly being pulled away from gameplay, reinforcing the feeling of uncovering a mystery at your own pace. At its core, Rat Hunter delivers a pure first-person shooter experience built around constant movement and reactive combat. Encounters favor aggression and awareness rather than cover-based tactics, encouraging players to stay mobile and make quick decisions under pressure. Enemies range from mutated creatures to armed human opponents, each demanding different positioning and weapon choices. Combat is not overly complex, but it is consistent and reliable, creating a rhythm that feels familiar to fans of early FPS design while remaining accessible to newcomers willing to adapt to its pacing. One of the game’s more distinctive features is its emphasis on physics-based interaction, which was ambitious for its time. Many objects in the environment can be picked up, pushed, stacked, or thrown, allowing players to approach situations creatively. Explosive barrels, movable debris, and improvised cover introduce moments of emergent gameplay that break up the standard shoot-and-move loop. These mechanics are occasionally rough around the edges, but they add unpredictability and encourage experimentation rather than rigid solutions. The arsenal in Rat Hunter is functional rather than flashy, offering a selection of weapons that cover close-range power, mid-range reliability, and situational utility. Resource management plays a meaningful role, as ammunition and health are not always abundant. A particularly unusual mechanic involves consumables that restore health while introducing temporary side effects, such as altered vision or boosted melee capability. This system adds a layer of risk and reward, forcing players to weigh immediate survival against potential drawbacks in combat-heavy sections. Level design alternates between claustrophobic indoor facilities and more open outdoor spaces, maintaining variety across the campaign. Research labs, industrial corridors, alien terrain, and corporate installations each bring different pacing and enemy arrangements. Occasional vehicle segments introduce a change of perspective, offering faster traversal and combat sequences that contrast with the slower, more deliberate on-foot exploration. While some navigation and puzzle elements can feel dated, they serve to break up combat and encourage players to engage with the environment more thoughtfully. From a technical standpoint, Rat Hunter clearly reflects its age. Visuals are utilitarian, animations are stiff, and the interface lacks modern conveniences. However, these limitations are part of its identity rather than flaws to be hidden. The game prioritizes functionality and atmosphere over polish, relying on lighting, sound design, and environmental layout to create tension. For players accustomed to modern shooters, the controls and presentation may feel rigid, but for fans of classic FPS titles, this rawness can be part of the appeal. Taken as a whole, Rat Hunter is a focused and unapologetically retro shooter that succeeds by committing to its strengths rather than chasing trends. It does not aim to reinvent the genre or deliver a cinematic experience, but instead offers a solid, occasionally inventive journey rooted in exploration, physics-driven interaction, and straightforward gunplay. For players who appreciate older FPS design philosophies and enjoy discovering forgotten sci-fi shooters with personality, Rat Hunter stands as a modest but engaging reminder of a time when experimentation and simplicity often went hand in hand.
Good,I just need a game like this
Very Classic
