DEFINITELY encourage this dev! We need more from them! Pretty surprised by this game! I love the look, the combat mechanic and the vibes! The only thing I wish is that it was WAY longer and had more of everything (weapons, levels, enemies, maybe skills), so I'll pray they make a bigger game out of this extremely good bite-sized base!
I am proud to be one of the first reviewers of this game. First of all, this game is a perfect wholistic product, from art direction, music, story to gameplay, everything is perfect as the developer intended it. I am used to playing on the hardest difficulties when I start a new game, but I recommend anyone to not start at hard difficulty in this game, I got filtered badly, my cheeks wooped so hard I went to normal difficulty, which was challenging even then at times. The combat in this game feels at times like a rhythm, hard to get used to at first but then when it clicks, game gets a lot easier, but do expect hard enemy placements at times. If not for this difficulty the game would be a lot shorter even, and remember you can run past a lot of enemies, you do not have to fight everything (especially on hard difficulty, I lost all of my sanity). The art direction in this game is very amazing, looks like something out of a dream, the soundtrack is also very fitting. Story delivers where it must, at the start and at the end, remains simple and clear, perfect for this type of game. There is not much else to tell without spoling the whole package, as the game is quite short, on normal it took me around 45 minutes to beat it. You can replay it on hard afterwards, there is also an endless and speedrun mode. PS: If you walk to the left at the start of the game, near the shore to the trees, you will actually fall into the water and then of the map and skip the entire tutorial section. I also recommend buying the soundtrack so you can headbang to "Beating Hearts" and "Anomaly Slayer". And remember: "IT IS NOT YOUR BUSINESS"
So happy this game finally came to Steam, it got me to finally check it out after first hearing about it like a year ago. I love the really harsh neon style with all sorts of crispy looking textures and patterns. The story is really cute too, I love any time you get to do butchfemme knight/princess stuff in a game. I found the later parts of the game (like last half hour) to be really frustrating but that's mostly because I suck at this and got skill checked a lot. My few actual complaints though are either some sort of effect or screen tearing at the edges of the player POV. I couldn't tell if it was a purposeful decision or a bug but it was really distracting at times. The timing on the charge attack crystal breaks is also reeeeaaaally tight and I was still struggling to consistently get it at the end of the game. I also wish you could change the difficulty mid-playthrough. I know it's like a less than an hour long game, but when I got stuck I was sort of forced to just get good because I couldn't change the difficulty without starting over. But still, this is a great little game despite some small issues. Certainly one of the most visually compelling indie titles I've played in while. Great if you like really rhythmic and clunky feeling swordplay and boomer shooter enemy designs.
The game is a unique and touching experience, that reminds me of my first childhood attempt of exploring Doom 1, as well as the novelty and honesty of Cruelty Squad. It Is A Love Song!
Weirdo artstyle I like, nice combat. Neat little game that'll run you an hour of your time, but it left me feeling like it was well spent. Hope to see more from the dev in the future.
ITS NOT YOUR BUSINESS
bite sized but engaging and worthwhile. Story was nice. Visuals were particularly stand out and made the experience lovely
Blue Wyrm may just be the most rancid playing game i was ever excited to play. It takes the jitter and wobble of a ps1 3D game and exagerates it so much it stops having any kind of meaningful effect. If you leave the head bobbing at 100% by default like the game does, the entire thing becomes almost a cruel parody of indie games that try to recreate these kinds of visuals. Every step is accompanied by a sound I can only describe as "plate mail flip flops". You can find better damage and hit feedback by using a kid's safe knife than trying to fight any enemies.
