A homage to the gritty fiction of the ’90s. “RAKKA: WAKE 01 - SOOT” unfolds as an episodic, linear visual novel that blends paper-cut style comics, animation, music and dialogue into a slow-burn mystery thriller that dares you to dig deeper — even when you really, really shouldn’t.

About

London,1993. Rakka clocks in, clocks out, and sleeps in a flat with three equally directionless blokes: Sascha, Björn, and Kev, the other twenty-somethings who’ve mastered the art of going nowhere.
It’s dull, just the motions, and Rakka learns soon enough what the true meaning of ‘Be careful what you wish for,’ holds. A care package from work arrives with something it shouldn’t: a strange code.
From that very moment, life starts to twist and turn into something wrong. Strange calls, paranoia, and escapism culminate in a series of unfortunate events that leaves the four roommates on edge.
Rakka’s curiosity mutates into something insatiable. If people are willing to scare them over this code, then it matters. Feeling backed into a corner, the four arrive at a shared resolve: get out, catch up on the time they’ve wasted, and, somewhere at the end of it all, find out why this code is making strangers act like predators.
Their road trip-mystery starts where a road trip should: a huge festival; Meant as a break from the chaos. From there it’s a spiraling chain of questionable people, worse events, and the kind of uncertainty that makes you doubt your own memory—blending four separate identity crises into one complete shitstorm of travel, unanswerable questions, and “what the hell did we just walk into?”
The deeper they go, the clearer it gets: this mystery isn’t leading them to a prize. It’s leading them into a story that already started—without them.

RW1S is not a branching-route visual novel. It is a crafted linear narrative where the tension comes from dialogue, atmosphere, and the slow reveal of what is really happening.
Explore scenes, follow conversations, and pay close attention to the things people say when they think they're being casual. Every glance, joke, object, and contradiction can pull the thread tighter.
RW1S is the first entry in the RAKKA series.
A large part of RW1S takes place inside the game’s fully interactive festival — a living, breathing environment designed to capture the raw, chaotic energy of a real international music event. As players move between stages and hot-spots, they uncover more about the main cast and the web of characters orbiting them, while being immersed in a diverse sonic landscape that goes far beyond a traditional soundtrack.
The festival features 15+ musical performances by collaborating artists, woven directly into the narrative so that music doesn’t just accompany the story — it drives it.
With detailed backgrounds, expressive character art, animated comic-style sequences, and a unique paper-cut visual identity, RAKKA aims to feel dense, handmade, and unpredictable. Its original soundtrack, led by The Paradox Music Team, gives the game its own rough-edged pulse: indie, chaotic, and hard to shake.
This is a character-driven mystery about wasted time, bad decisions, curiosity, friendship, fear, and the awful moment when a joke stops being funny.

Ooo, Banger, actually. Very high end visual novel, if not the most evocative one that I played in recent memory, or I guess a part of one, it's not completed yet. It has a few hours of gameplay with some optional interactions, and visual density toward the middle is like 5-times the average, so I would not worry too much about the price, already worth supporting. It does start a little generic, but once you get to the festival I think the character chemistry really gets going, there were plenty of cute, charming and silly moments. So far it's mostly a "friendship" narrative, I think they planning to add some type of conflict which is hinted at certain parts, but it does not play a big role in the narrative at the moment as it abruptly ends without context. It's not completely linear, some parts of the game have limited exploration and optional achievements, sorta like a graphic adventure as you can explore different parts of the festival, might be worth replaying a few times, not sure if it has much impact on the actual story though. The game does a good job not staying too long on the same panels, maybe with the exception of the first section, but there were surprisingly a lot of unique backgrounds that were only for specific moments, decently long cutscenes, and overall the art direction was very evocative, often mixing comic panels to show expressions, and not getting too repetitive on the panels.
Pros:
(+) Very densely packed with animations, cutscenes, and art panels, it's a little plain at the start, but gets very visually striking from the middle to the end. I know some devs that probably would make 5 smaller games from these. (+) Soundtrack also really stood out, it's a little different from anything else out there, several nice songs, and the game also has some nice UI to play the songs in the menu or view the panels (+) Good character chemistry, it's mostly just friendship interactions so far, but the writing felt nicely paced overall (+) Just a small thing, I like that UI is completely custom, most games don't do it
Feedback:
Random things: - the sound effects for text progression were kinda annoying, but at least you allowed me to disable it so not a bid deal - honestly don't have anything really negative to say, the only thing, I was not sure if I was meant to find additional characters at different points of the festival, or just keep playing the comedy game, so I wasted a bit of time there (I guess I have to just replay it and find them) Overall Thoughts: 8/10 (it's part of the game though) It's very, very good, well as far as the medium goes. Not too heavy on the conflict yet, so far a slice of life, more or less, but it navigates the bonds between the characters very well. Both the visuals and the music stood out, better than probably 90% of visual novels out there, very packed with details and emotes. Not a completed VN yet, but I felt the price was still very low for what it offers. Might have to replay it cuz it seemed I missed some things. I'm usually not one to take an interest in VNs, but after seeing the trailer I decided to give this one a go simply because I was enamoured by its style and artistic presentation. Everything from UI design, to panelling, to art style, to music was spot on in conveying that 90's sort of nostalgia. I highly enjoyed the interactions between the main cast of characters and hope to see more volumes in future!!
i rate this game a rakkamillion / 10 it's very pretty
(Ignore the play time on Steam, I was a tester for this and played through it earlier on a non-Steam build.) I'm not usually super into visual novels (aside from really liking Hotel Dusk and Last Window), but I really vibe with this. It knocks it out of the park on character dynamics and presentation especially; there isn't anything else that quite looks or sounds like this does and I think it's plenty worth a go for that and the fun writing alone.
This is an exceptionally well-produced visual novel with a very charming style, a well-written cast of characters, and an incredible soundtrack. Everything from the UI, comic panels, sprite work, backgrounds, even the screen transitions feel lovingly and attentively designed, the story evokes a natural and familiar, relatable feeling without just banking on nostalgia, the incorporation of the in-universe bands and real featured ones is done so well that I was checking the credits every time I unlocked a song to see who made what. The game might as well be hand-stitched in its uniqueness, there's nothing lab-grown or factory-made about it, and I can't wait for Rakka's second chapter.
This was such a great time from start to finish (barring some missed optional scenes). As an audiovisual experience it really draws you in, but I stayed for the characters and writing which were more relatable than I expected. It's just such a well-rounded package and I am a huge sucker for multimedia collage type visual novels like Suda51's The Silver Case, which this reminds me of in some ways (but it's also way different). I hope this game sells well, cause I need part 2 stat. The sheer amount of art and soul put into this feels like the perfect antidote to 2026's slop-riddled netscape, and for a story set in the 90s it has basically no nostalgia bait. Really it just inspires me to go out and touch some grass with my friends.
I love the artstyle, the paper cut visuals and animations were really nice. I loved the mix of a normal vn, with mini games mixed in and the festival map navigation felt like a real festival (keep track of the time table, or you will miss some concerts, found that out the hard way). And the soundtrack was amazing, so many different tracks, and artists, all with their own sounds. The story was also nicely set up, with some nice humor bits. Im looking forward to rakka 2. I would definitely recommend this game, if you like vn’s, music or just love looking at some nice visuals.
One of the funniest visual novels I've played! A lot of heart went into this, the music, art and more are all so good coming together to make such an interesting story portrayed through more than regular visual novel sprite + dialogue, no we've got animations and COMIC BOOK PANEL ART TOO??? Not to mention a fantastic cast of characters I don't wanna let go of. Definitely worth checking out for yourself if the trailer got you interested at all!
Incredibly stylish. Great soundtrack. I love the characters and the writing is wonderful. Can't wait for more!
