The game is boring, buggy, and poorly optimized. Deciding to 1.0 release this game in its current state is extremely disappointing and insulting. Not to mention to core loop of the game hasn't even changed a bit in 3-4 years of early access development. Running a train back and forth gets extremely boring when you dumb down a steam engine to not even have steam simulation or proper firing. I do not recommend this game, especially since the developers choose to ignore the community and major problems while pretending everything is fine. (They also increased the price without making a better product) TLDR Incompetent developers full release buggy product and increase the price while ignoring the community.
I've been playing RRO since the very beginning. To say the game has the potential to be one of the best train sim/management/sandbox games ever is an understatement but when its potential will be reached is unfortunately unanswerable. The uncountable amount of bugs/glitches makes it unplayable at this point. After seeing that the game was updated recently I figured I'd give it another shot. Bugs and crashes completely wasted my time. Out of nowhere the game would crash and the auto save feature failed to work. 6 hours down the drain. The fact that they are considering this as a full release is ridiculous. I really thought they would have everything ironed out by now. If you are considering purchasing I'd hold off for a while or maybe change your mind completely.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Not Recommended (for now) I want to love Railroads Online. The concept is basically catnip if you’re into steam, logging lines, and building your own little rail empire. But the execution is… rough, and not in a charming “early access jank” way, more like “why am I fighting the controls instead of building a railroad” way. What’s good • The idea is awesome: build track, run steam, haul freight, expand. • When it’s working, it scratches that “tiny railroad tycoon gremlin brain” itch perfectly. What kills it 1) Track building feels like wrestling a forklift in a phone booth Controls are not intuitive, and laying track is way harder than it should be, especially when you’re trying to connect segments, curve properly, or manage grades. A lot of players end up hunting through control mappings and “tips” threads just to do basic stuff consistently. 2) Random derailments, sometimes for no good reason Derails happen too often, including reports of “it ran fine five times, then derailed on the same spot,” plus derailments on straight track or especially around switches. That’s not “simulation,” that’s the game flipping the table. 3) Basic interactions are janky (water, for example) Stuff that should be simple, like adding water, can be buggy or inconsistent. There are multiple threads from people who can’t get water to register, see it “pouring on the ground,” or have specific locos that refuse to fill. 4) Multiplayer makes the problems louder A multiplayer railroad game lives or dies on smooth co-op. Instead, people report rubberbanding and general multiplayer jank that makes everything worse when you bring a friend in. Bottom line This game has the bones of something incredible, but right now it feels like you spend more time debugging the experience than running a railroad. If you’re thinking “maybe it’s just me,” it’s not, a lot of players are running into the same categories of issues: track placement pain, random derailments, and basic interactions not behaving.
Game has been a buggy mess since day one, none of which have been fixed by devs, even after full release. Console is even worse with less features. Multiplayer is unplayable due to the client side stutter. They keep releasing silly updates but do not fix any core game play issues. Simply put, this game has turned into a cash grab thanks to the narrow gauge steam fad sweeping the younger foamers. Save your money for [strike]Railroads Online 2[/strike] Century of Steam.
fun game but DOA after full release last december, get it if it is on sale for 10-20$, no more than that tho
I want to like this game, but it is, at best, disappointing and unfinished, driving the trains feels unengaging most of the time, griding the same industry for hours at a time becomes a massive chore, and to top it all off, half the industries don't even show up on the map when you pull it up, which can be a little problematic in a game where you need to build tracks to go somewhere. There are a plrethora train-sims of far higher quality that are much much more worthwhile, especially for this game's price tag, and I don't anticipate any of it to change any time soon.
Not impressed with this game Period. For what this game costs just buy Derail Valley, the store page is completely different from the product you receive. This game is dumpster fire at best. Track building is a miserable experience by itself in this game you better have very still hands or you aren't going to get far. There is no support - updates to the game in a long time, stuff isn't going to get fixed. I'm pretty disappointed since this is actually from a decent publisher too, I don't know what the problem is with this game and why they won't touch it anymore. TLDR: Walk Away This Game Is Bad, Just Buy Derail Valley (you don't need VR to play) you will be happier with your purchase!
as far as money grabs go. its as basic as it got had promis but i can name a game thats in progress thats proably a thousend times better. hell derail valley is already more then enough and ya dont need to lay the rails shure but ya at lest feel the role. to lazy to fix any grammar thats how much this games not valued. even as a gift.
Full of promise that will probably never be fulfilled. Glitches and bugs and user unfriendliness galore. There is no real depth to the gameplay, and you spend more time fixing problems caused by glitches and bad design than actually playing. Every update breaks something without adding any worthwhile content.
This game is severely underbaked and riddled with bugs. On top of that, the last update was over 1 and a half year ago, there hasn't been any communication anymore, making this a yanky piece of abandonware.
