Railroads Online has great potential that it fails to realize due to performance issues in multiplayer. The game offers unique gameplay ideas from building tracks to connect industries, buying rolling stock depending on your funds and experience level, coupling cars to form trains, loading and unloading cargo at industries to earn money and experience, to driving trains in first person by moving the right levers or using sliders in a UI. There are different tiers of locomotives and cars with a wide selection and somewhat detailed models. The game works well in singleplayer and is fun. It would be more fun though to share the experience with friends in multiplayer. Unfortunately this is where the game comes short. Multiplayer is very buggy and performance drops to ~10fps for a multiplayer host and ~20fps for a multiplayer client in our observations. Trains then start to rubberband and jump around. It becomes hard to near impossible to operate the train in first person or refuel a train altogether. While this happens the computer's hardware, that exceeds the recommended specs, isn't fully utilized, so it doesn't appear to be a hardware limitation. The game runs fine without any clients connected, however the more clients connect the more the framerate takes a hit. This is an indication that the netcode isn't too great and that it's tied to and impacts the framerate. Considering the game is called Railroads Online, thus multiplayer should be a core part of the game, such performance issues are a letdown and greatly spoil the fun. This was acceptable during early access or when development of the game was still ongoing, however over the past half year there has been no update to the game so it appears that development has stopped shortly after the game left early access. When discussing the bugs and performance issues in the official hubs the developers' officials simply blame poor performance on hardware and state that the host would have to be able to run the game at good framerates in singleplayer to be able to host a multiplayer game. As mentioned before though on our hardware the game runs with high framerates without a client connected. Even lowering graphics settings to the minimum doesn't improve performance. Therefore I unfortunately can't recommend the game in its current state.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Since playing this game from open beta this game has been many things to me, Ill do my best to summarize. After 2 years and 800 Hours of this game I have mixed feeling, Love it or hate it the concept of this game is wonderful and makes for an enjoyable experience performing tasks, gaining rewards, building your own interpretation of a productive railroad, challenge you to find a way and spending time with like minded company. Being that this game started in open beta I recognized that the experience would not be perfect. Some slack was given and adjusted during this time. The problem with railroad online has nothing to do with the Concept though. As stated before the concept is wonderful and a winning procedure. However, this has come at the expense of the game from one update to the other either being an unplayable wreck or a acceptable improvement. After how ever many years of development, here we are with a product that is in full release and still not able to be a fully functioning game without some issues. While AAA titles do not do this either, and respecting the teams behind the game, The hope was always that we the community of gamers would have a stable product that is fun, relaxing and functioning to enjoy. this has turned out to be a mixed bag. This is not to diminish the work that the staff, Dev... Devs?, and community managers have done in the past. This game has came a long way from where it was. And my hope for it. well, continued development, optimization and further performance upgrades. My promise to the Railroads online team, RRO. is to continue supporting them when new content becomes available. We all have to get paid, so buy the DLC when they come out. This gives all parties the opportunity to continue developing the games for which I appreciate. The online experience is not perfect. There is an issue called popcorning and what can be described a rubber banding that occurs under certain conditions. (usually when over 30 rolling stock is in motion on the map for me) However, if this issue crops up you can always host, play other roles in the co-op game or play in single player mode. While I say this, the game is Truly in its finest form at the time of this review. I am able to play with a friend across the globe on acceptable performance terms. This has helped me be content with the game as it sits today. The question, Should you buy railroad online. The answer is Absolutely Yes. There is a community out there that would love to run a train with you in the discord or in game chat. There are pre-laid maps out there and dev made maps to get your feet wet on. There are endless possibility's for you to build, operate, fail, succeed and enjoy RRO. Should you chose to buy this game I implore you to get involved in the community, have fun and lets play.
Would get a refund if I could.
Game still plays like an early access, ganky, buggy, and in much need of QOL work. Best way to describe it, is it feels like they slapped together a bunch of rushed game mechanics so that they could call it completed, then dump the game and leave. Defiently not worth the $38.99 CAD they're asking for it, in its current state would I wouldnt recommend spending anymore then $10 CAD.
As an early access title, there was much to look forward to. But to declare the game "released" in this state is really unacceptable. I'm no train purist, and I'm happy to simply play a train game for the sake of enjoying it. That the game is unintuitive is also forgivable. I'm not opposed to indie titles having a few bugs now and then either. However, this finished product seriously suffers. Some bugs are simply unforgivable; Issues where complex productions (such as oil) are simply dumped into the ether instead of the train should never have existed at release. Rampant audio issues (such as the same sound being played multiple times a fraction of a second out of phase) make the game unpleasant to play for long periods. Visual errors that show cars as unconnected (such as the skeleton car) make it frustrating to diagnose problems. Then to save the worst for last, the game is frustratingly nonfunctional with multiplayer with constant issues around host-client communication making it impossible to really play. That a map expansion *and* console release was rushed to production before the resolution of these kinds of foundational problems makes me seriously question the development priorities. I honestly cannot recommend this game to anyone - whether you like train games, like the idea of laying your own track, or want to play a multiplayer train game. This is not the title for you.
Do not recommend getting the game. I have been eyeing it for past while now, and bought during Christmas as a gift for myself. I loaded the game up, and immediately plagued with issues, the ground wouldn't render, random frame rate spikes, and strange clipping. Normal I wouldn't really care for stuff like this, I play unoptimized games all the time, such is the nature of indie games, but there was no grass nor ground and it would go from a choppy mess to 170 frames depending if you were looking north or west in the game. I can respect the passion that went into this game, and the models or very good looking, the sounds are great, and I love the time setting, but I really was just unplayable for me, and I was unable to fix it. keep in mind that this is "version 1.0" of the game, I really don't think there are too many excuses for the game being in this state, then again, I could be being too harsh on it idk.
abandoned
Game is very unstable. every update fixes one issue, then creates another. My game has started crashing since 1.0. Restarting the game over and over again to lose progress from random Errors that close the game,
I loved this game, but since its nearly been an entire year since the last update, I think it's pretty safe to call it abandonware at this point. The game has always had rough edges, and that used to be fine in early access but games should be much more polished before full 1.0 release. If the devs released an update(even just a small bug patch) to show a sign of life I would likely recommend this game, but it has just been abandoned for almost a whole year now :(
Every time when i try to load a Pre-Railed map it will crash EVERY time
