Simple yet fun and challenging. Not an incredibly long game but definitely worth a buy!
this game is ass i like how disabling hints still shows them, having the illusion of choice was a good detail dev whoever decided to hide the 4-5 collectible managed to find the most non intuitive ♥♥♥♥ spot of all time also good luck with the "Complete Warlords without grabbing the checkpoint" achievement, levels have no name LMAOOOO
Like its flash game predecessor, qomp2 is a nice short little puzzle platformer, or maybe better described as a puzzle obstacle course. Compared to that original, qomp2's pace has been slowed down. This makes it feel a bit longer in the tooth, not something you'll want to play all in one sitting like the first, but the slower pace allows puzzles to get a lot more complex and really make you have to plan your route through each room a bit more. The new stage mechanics all do well adding to that good puzzle complexity, as well as the new central movement mechanic. But I think the bigger highlight than the new puzzles was the improvements on the boss fights, each representing totally different challenges and having their own personalities. There was a small number of bugs I encountered, mostly occasionally clipping through the top portions of some platforms or paddles. The checkpoint placement would often make me feel like I'd get turned around too easily and waste a few seconds turning around. Neither issue is a dealbreaker though, once you're in the hang of the game's pacing everything feels like it progresses smoothly.
WHICH LEVEL IS WARLORDS!?!\ Is 2-8. I had to check a chinese tutorial. Youre welcome.
Look, I normally don't go full "hour to playtime ratio", but I got 30 levels, most of which were rather short, for $20. That's less levels than Super Mario Bros. 1! Plus the stupid hints you can't turn off, seriously, why?! I do like the chill music and the art, but it's similar in qomp 1, so really just go play that instead.
Qomp2 is a bit of a middle ground for me because while it's certainly an interesting game in the way it plays, it's also a bit too long for what it offers. There's 30 levels, but there's really about only 15 levels worth of ideas going on. A big disappointment is that early in the game you get a "blue" power-up, and this might lead you into the expectation that surely there will be more, but there aren't. Instead ideas are slowly trickled in and then reused throughout the game which makes it end up being a drag. It also has a habit of having rooms in levels that are completely empty and just serve as hallways to the next segment, which makes it feel really slow to play. The way the visuals stay completely dull the whole time also doesn't really help. There's also a bit of bugs in the game that drag it down a good deal. The snake gimmick will sometimes cause you to just die multiple times when you respawn somehow. I find that wall collisions are also a big mess, probably do to your puck being round I imagine. The visual effects really make the screen tear apart as well, you can atleast turn them off but then the game loses the aesthetic it was going for. Lastly, probably the most grievous problem is that sometimes moving killer objects will just randomly be nearly twice their speed; I have no idea what causes this bug or if it's intentional but it made for very frustrating moments. All this said, the game still has some nice charm and enjoyment to be had. I think if this game had about half the levels, basically condensing all the best segments together, it would be a much smoother experience you can enjoy in a single session.
I think I liked qomp 1 better, as I preferred the concept of a unbelievably simple game that skillfully makes use of its sole mechanic to make deceptively complex levels. I also felt this game at times veered into "rage game" territory, with some extremely difficult spots. The main complaint I have about that is that the difficulty curve was wildly uneven, with strangely difficult spots interlaced with the easiest segments. Overall, still fun, but the higher price tag and uneven difficulty make it a harder recommend than the first game for me.
