Horror game with a bit of piglets in you pocket. If you already have the game it might be worth checking out but otherwise I would skip. Short walking sim set in spooky house. You have some delusions and everything gets a bit fuzzy but still you manage to explore the place and find the truth about it. Gameplay is mostly about finding items to progress further in to the story. Some exploration is involved and despite plenty of jumpscares it's not very scary. Skip or play - your choice.
3/10 not my kinda of game better horror games on steam also far worse ones 100s of them and they all feel like the same thing nothing that makes this one special
Gutes kleines Horror Spiel mit dichter Atmosphäre. Inzwischen schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber immer noch gut spielbar.
Such a big improvement after their previous game
Story
I can’t say much without spoilers. After a murder in an abandoned house, you grab your cameras and head there alone to investigate.
Review
The story is dark and sad. Nothing groundbreaking or with a strong narrative, but the lore works fine for the project. There are 4 endings and plenty of secrets, so you gotta replay to see the whole story. In this paranormal exploration game with some puzzles, gameplay shifts between two phases: first you explore the house with your camera, that can be used to record paranormal activities, it has a battery and needs to be charged once in a while. You also need to solve puzzles and collect items until you go to rest; then it switches to a mechanic where you watch the house through two fixed cameras, also looking for paranormal activity. It has a PT/Visage vibe, with new and weirder events appearing each day. The house has a solid design and feels quite distinct, especially compared to Minds Eye from the same developer. However, contrast and lighting are weak. Some items blend into the environment, forcing you to wander around until you finally spot them. The soundtrack shows up rarely, but when it does, it fits well.
Cons
Most doors open poorly. They swing a little, get stuck around 60 degrees, and then close themselves after a few seconds, which becomes annoying. There’s a BIG soft-lock issue. I had to stop playing twice without closing the game, because if you close it, you lose all progress. The problem is that the pause menu doesn’t actually freeze the game, so the battery keeps draining. When I came back, I had no flashlight battery in areas so dark that I couldn’t see anything. You can only recharge in two spots: the kitchen and the basement. The first time, I managed to reach the kitchen by wandering blindly until the interaction prompt finally appeared. The second time, I had to restart the whole game. My advice: always keep your battery charged and only start a session when you’re sure you can finish it.
Conclusion
An engaging and short paranormal investigation game, with strong exploration, good lore, and a few frustrating flaws. But surely a step in the right direction. A Girls Fabric Face (weird name) is a short horror game meant to be played in one sitting. It takes place inside a house that opens new areas as you find new tools or the narrative advances. The house is dark but you're equipped with a camrecorder that has a flashlight, but that's not the only thing you can do with the camrecorder. You can also record paranormal activities as weird things happen around you. There's a % counter that fills as you record stuff, and I guess you'll get an achievement if you manage to record 100% (I wasn't). It has the usual clichés and tropes of the haunted house setting, but it's fun. It's humble but it's well made and genuinely creepy at times. There are four endings, so there's plenty to play and experiment if you want to see all the content.
i give big props to this game for being a product of a different time - 2017 was a very different moment for horror gaming, before the 'horror react' boom that came into play post-2020 lockdown era. many of you reading this review have no frame of reference for how different indie game dev was this far back - it was a significant undertaking with high risk and little payoff. 'A Girl's Fabric Face' will seem needlessly complicated to a modern gamer, and mechanically confusing. this is not the streamer hand-holding you are accustomed to - nor is it a 'brutal game for real gamers only'. no, it is simply a dark and depressing little game, with a heavy atmosphere and a disturbing plot. i highly, highly recommend playing a rain ambience track from youtube along with this, as it enhances the experience tremendously and feels mandatory given the game's setting is all a claustrophobic indoor space. will this be the best game you play this year ? certainly not. but it's a solid effort and a great look into what indie games were like in the mid-2010s. if you're that kind of player, who likes thinking about the context of game development and the way horror has changed as a genre .. pick this one up.
A nice short horror game. The story isn’t anything extraordinary, but it’s still engaging enough to make you want to see how it continues. The puzzles are well done, and so are the atmosphere and the environments. I also liked the design of the house, even if it is the typical horror house setting. What I especially appreciated was the use of jumpscares. There are hardly any unnecessary shock moments, everything feels well placed and intentional. There are four different endings, which is interesting, but replaying the game quickly becomes repetitive since not much actually changes. Still, for the price and considering it’s the developer’s first game, I can definitely recommend it to anyone.
4.3 Interesting concept but it doesn't really do enough with it and by the half-way mark along with the intro I realised something which completely blew away the tension. Also having getting the other endings and achievements they weren't really that great overall.
Not as good as Inside Depth 6 but it's an older game. Scares were kinda weak. I got it on sale which is okay.
Ever wanted to play a bad version of the Ghost Adventures TV show with controls that don't make sense? Well this is the game for you.
