Such a charming and overlooked little game, shame that it never found the audience, other than what, like 3 people, actually one of the funniest games that I played, was laughing every 20 seconds for like 90 minutes in total, Punzel is, how do I put this nicely..... she is a very special girl. I originally stooped playing because it was a bit glitchy, and there are some occasional interaction problems, but recently I found the courage and managed to get to the end, the game is only about 60-90 minutes, but you can get more out of it because it's a bit like an achievement hunting experience as well. When I originally looked at the trailer I wasn't sure if it was like a cheap phone game, but I was completely wrong, there is so much love and custom animation in everything that you do, the game is just overflowing with cute moments and silly interactions, great game if you like finding hidden things. I thought the jokes were great, not just during the gameplay, even the UI is hilarious, optional fart settings, optional "no spiders" settings (if you want to replace them with cats), and even weird mini games like drawing over the screen or using stickers on the walls. Punzel is kind if like a captured Princess simulator, you are held in the tower by the goblins, the knights that try to rescue you get killed, and your only source of amusement seems to be your friend the crow and what I can only assume is dog food. It plays a lot like an adventure game, but you do have to use both WASD and the Mouse, and somehow I didn't realize you could run and jump as well, that would be shift and space. Most of the puzzles are kinda just chill and doing silly things, not very heavy on the thinking, there may have been couple that were a bit confusing, I didn't like bulb puzzles on the stairs.
Pros:
(+) Despite the trailer perhaps looking a bit simple, there is a ton of animation in this game and it's a lot more visually stimulating than it looks, as well as having some interesting mechanics like drawing on the screen or finding things in the meditation. Perhaps the visuals in the trailer don't do the game justice, clearly a lot of love went into drawing these interactions. (+) The Punzel slowly but surely becomes absurdly hilarious with her reactions, one of the funniest games that I played, at least when it comes to my personal taste. Just so many cute and funny moments, and they don't feel forced at all, I think you managed to make a very chill and absurd game. (+) Very fun game to hunt for odd achievements, if you into that. Lots of silly and hidden interactions.
Feedback:
- the game can be a bit glitchy in a few specific spots - I didn't like the bulb puzzles, those in the dark, I think the solutions are too confusing Overall Thoughts: 7/10 A lovely short game, absolutely absurd and equally adorable, I am so sad that you never got the support for the second chapter, if only I had the money, I would sponsor 5 Punzel games, we would give the Disney a good fight. If you like small games with a lot of hidden things and cute moments, such a fun game, really a shame that it's so overlooked. This is a high quality cute little interactive experience. Deserves wayyy more reviews. Would rate it all ages? Maybe? Best for the young ones. Perhaps with a little guidance. Some of the later simple puzzles might frustrate perhaps? And while it might seem a little expensive for the playtime, if you think of this as a children's book, it's wayyy too cheap! ...I liked it though, brought a smile to my face this boring night ! Definitely would buy a second chapter if and when it comes out.
How cute do you want to be? Punzel: YES!
If you love a cute and funny story or collecting things and exploring all the little details this is a must play for you. Punzel is truely a remarkable and unique experience full of joyful interactions, clever jokes and iconic characters and animations. The gameplay is super intuitive and finds the right ballance between simplicity and challenge. You can really feel all the love, blood, sweat and tears that went into creating this game. It definitely offers room for multiple playthroughs and I can't wait for the next chapter to be released.
It is beyond belief how much love and details were put in this game. At every turn there are lots of funny or intriguing moments, and every step is rewarded tenfold. This is wholesome as can be!
This game is awesome! I love how the whole game works without any words or a lot of instructions. You can tell how many love was put into this game with all its little details, creative ideas and animations. Looking forward to play chapter 2. :)
Punzel is a nice little game. The world is very sweet designed and I had lots of fun discovering all details of it. The various puzzles seem tricky in the first place. But when you slowly understand them more and more, they're really fun to solve. The animations and sounds (and there are a lot!) are also very lovingly designed and just fun to watch and listen to :) Highly recommended for anyone who likes discovering and enjoys detail.
[strike]'Once upon a time, there was a princess, trap in a castle, with nothing to do, nothing a all.... ….... Until finally, fed up with her window view littered with corpses of deceased knights, Becoming another garden fertiliser, She decided to stand up for herself by traversing around the castle, Confusing her fouls with emotes, Solving tedious puzzles requiring a couple of retries, and defeating collect bugs for her pet crow, all the cost of her freedom, and to report to the HR, stating how they don't make chivalry knights like they used to.' [/strike] As harmless as Punzel Chapter 1 may seems, it does take a while to get going, unless you are more of a person who's used to non-verbal communication, like facial expressions, hand gestures, and body porosity then will have a great time making the character use different expression to get a reaction out of other characters by making them happy, angry, shy, etc, to progress through the game and solve the puzzle to get your way. For the most part, I enjoyed all the puzzles except for the light one; that one was a lot harder and picky to navigate to get the right expression down in the right order. Nonetheless, this was still a cute, delightfully fun game to play. Especially if you would like to collect plain artwork to print out to give to your kids or siblings who love colouring.
Short and sweet little adventure that is reminiscent of a playable coloring book (and you *can* color the screens!). Hand-drawn graphics and hand- (and mouth-)made sounds show the love that's been put into making this. And although the game might seem to be mainly for children at first, Punzel's ... *ahem* ... special character makes it a delight to play for older generations. I found giggling constantly while playing Punzel!
Angespielt! <3
Sweet little game, where you can feel the passion put into this in every screen. The puzzles not too hard, the optional minigame challaging, the design adoreable.
