I love this game. Well designed system + attractive art.
Great little game for mecha fans. Five pieces of customization for the loaders (body, left arm, right arm, legs, backpack) + tactics for your pair of companions. You can re-paint your loaders and Punihis (the little round guys piloting the mecha). They actually work surprisingly well for making a compact design, compared to something requiring a man-sized cockpit. The gameplay is fairly straightforward. Mission mode sees you taking on a variety of drones, with the occasional giant boss (Bastards) and later, enemy loaders. Missions unlock via the Arena, where you face other teams of three loaders; both have three "ranks" of difficulty, with reaching a new plateau in Arena unlocking the complimentary rank of Mission. For the most part, new parts become available via participating in particular Arena venues sponsored by different companies. I'll two other reviewers, the game really does feel like something you might have played in sixth gen, back when we saw more experimental, lower budget offerings. And although you might find yourself going back to certain weapons, there's no "one size fits all" loadout. Some work against both drones and loaders, some are better suited to one or the other. Towards the end of the game, though, I kinda ended up trending towards a few layouts. So you can definitely make your favored weapons work, at least in Arena, especially if you set up your allies suitably. If you get stuck on the mission where you have to protect an artifact from damage, I recommend going with the...Rana, I believe (two shot, slow loading) cannons and a fast mech design, while leaving your allies with a bulkier loadout and weapons of your choice. This was the only really tricky mission for me. Anyway, great game. Highly recommend it for mecha fans.
In Unity we mix and match

and strike but thats not as important
Punihi Loader 2 is not a looker or an overly ambitious game but a variety Mech game so this warrants not a look but two. Its a fairly basic Third Person Shooter. You have a forward only dash. Maybe an active back ability. Weapons are straightforward and weirdly grouped due to their simplicty. There is This : Gun...Machine Guns, Nailguns, Flamethrower? and then a Gun with Aoe...Cannons, Unguided Rockets, a Building Stapling-Machine?! Also missiles which do need Lock on. Meele weapons, varying a lot in their handyness. Reloading is passive and can be interrupted at any time. You will pick this up no problem. You and your marshmellow companions...? Meat buns? There are humans in this world too so... [strike]what ARE those and what are the lore implications of them? [/strike] This is a team game in which you not only command your own vehicle in need of description but also an enitre team of vehicles in need of description to turn your opponents into the indescripable. By default they will follow you like a pair of bodyguards probably inspired by shmups past. But you can give them orders like, stay there, follow your teammate, another preinstalled behaivour and attack this target...which needs some aiming so that can be a bit frustrating. But otherwise works fairly well and give the simplicity a well needed edge. NO MULTIPLAYER though. Probably way outside of the scope of what this developer can do but man...that could be a blast. Visually fairly underwhelming. Lots of grey. Menus and Hud are all in harsh white. Most of the presentation went into the mech design which ARE really cool... and cute due to their compactness. But most importantly the variety and possiblities. No booster and forget. Battleship combat this isn't enitrely either.
Some real ass mecha buffet.
Please, sit down and have a slice : Construction Vehicles with Nailguns Bipedal Stove Flamerthrower Jousting Tank Shielder on Tiny Legs Double Omega Laser Cannon Quadruped Hover Akimbo Barrager Truck John "All the Missiles" Mechsburg Unicycle Katana Sensei Blunderbuss Hyper Car Thomathy the Tank Engine, now with arms! Super Ridiculous? Yes. But find another game with all of THESE in it. Geniunely. Tell me. Because I love to see them. They can all be put together as you see fit with the only restriction being the weight limit and its mobility penalty. Pick your wear and tier, as in higher tier of the same part unlocks a more cleaner variant of it, color it and make a team that just makes you go smug... and then get your softfaces burnt in. Speaking of: The marshmellows get some customization options as well if you, for example, didn't feel like the theme of "Heavy Assault Ninja" came through well enough, there more fun for you. The tools provided though are a fairly cumbersome at times. Lots of scrolling through parts. Lacking palette system. Loading in a loadout will ALWAYS override both Mech and Pilot. The wearing will reset everytime you pick a part. Kinda important things to take care of... With your Team set you plow mostly through the arena ranking up. There are a few missions too, some with more unlocks. Defense, Surivival, Testing environment and some building up to a encounter with a boss. Which the game announces as
a type of "BASTARD".
Gosh, damn it. The Localization is a bit wonky, but that made me chuckle. Oh, I am sorry, I know you already had your fill earlier, but please have another : Catarpillar Missile Demolition Service Stove Gatling Guns "Thomathy" the crawling Tanksgivingpain Engine Jetpack Unicycle Laser-whielding Discoball of a Truck. with. a. funky. Vengeance. Yeeeahhh... It's all in the customization. If this is your greastest desire, Punihi Loader 2 is a suprisingly competent "build your own team of mechs" expierence with fairly decent gameplay within it.
Lovely casual game for fans of Mecha.
