There's this weird genre of multiplayer game that has popped up recently that is like this bizarre blend of being ridiculously complicated and also being multiplayer. Games where a ten to thirty minute tutorial video are a prerequisite to success. Make your user interface better. Make what you're supposed to be doing intuitive. And shove your damn tutorial videos up your butts.
I'm very much a gameplay over graphics guy but this one is too much for me. I wouldn't call this game an asset flip because there's clearly effort and passion put into it by the dev team, but it is so ugly and jank that it kills any immersion I could hope to have. Every planet feels like a bunch of stock unity assets plopped down on textureless terrain and then shipped. I think the game relies heavily on the fun you will have playing with friends to overlook the many glaring issues the world and gameplay have.

Can be quite fun with friends, but it does not have enough content to justify its current price
the game has a good bit of potential and the other roles appear to be enjoyable but engineer is painfully boring. Sit and wait until combat happens then hit a couple buttons and wait for combat to be over. thats about it, you cant really warrant even being on the bridge because not all of your stations are there. you dont even get to see what is going on. It wouldnt be as bad if engineer wasnt such an essential role that didnt have to be babysat. or if there another role to fulfill, because I'm not gonna subject one of my friends im playing with to such a boring fate, then nobody would want to play. thats bad game design. the game doesnt have any amount of expressiveness or fun intractables on, or off the ship. you cant really goof around at all besides turning off power to thrusters to mess with the pilot but thats kind of a one-off thing. this means that outside of combat not only is the engineer not doing anything but neither is the gunner. both roles literally have absolutely nothing to do and cant even goof off or interact with each other at all. thats bad game design there is a cool boarding/ planet/ station exploring mechanic thats nice but the weapon overheating makes combat awkward and not very enjoyable. then if you end up dying it removes a portion of your max health, which is the most brain-dead type of death consequence that keeps popping up in these types of games. if any one of these issues were alone, I would still recommend the game, i know not every game can be perfect in every way. but combined, its rough. the whole experience gets old so fast only 6.7 hours in I have no desire to play anymore because if im not getting lost in a mostly empty bland space station with nothing but the same bland one line "flavortext" from the equally bland npcs, I'm going to be sitting in the engine room watching paint dry. not to mention if it wasnt for a friend of mine spending a couple hours reading the manual (that doesnt explain stuff well anyway) I would have wasted another hour of my time
Only fun with friends. Solo play basically impossible unless with massive adjustments to the bots AI(with still mixed results). The game is only 3 years old as of writing this and its been completely abandoned by its devs. Lots of wasted potential here.
Think FTL meets Firefly. It's basically that.
It only took 2 years but the W.D Inept's crew has finished their flying days. On a more genuine note though, this is the most immersive co-op game ever. Campaigns can last anywhere from an afternoon to a few weeks hell a month or if you are as slow as us 2 whole entire years. But be weary the Pulsar brain rot is real and if you decide to grind it out it will get to you. Don't let that dissuade you because yes there is a very large gap between "wow this game is so cool" and "we NEED Corbin's wall and the comet shop" but as long as you have 3 good friends i wouldn't ever say this game gets truly boring. While the gameplay itself is a bit bear bones in some aspects (i.e shooting) it doesn't weigh the game down for me. Pulsars whole world is a thing to get completely lost in, looking out the windows of your ship at the whole galaxy ahead of you is a marveling sight and it will never get old so long as you keep adventuring. Everything will encapsulate you from the older looking art style to the DRINKS of this world, nothing is better than slamming down an engine sludge and playing a fun game called "try not to crash the ship" Or gambling away all of your savings trying to get high rollers and sure it's a tad bit dry at certain times but the euphoria once you finally obtain each and every fragment is a rush worth the for some reason controversial 25$. The Lost Colony does indeed wait for her next arrivals and I know she hopes those next arrivals will be you :) -Sincerely the Engineer of the W.D Inept
Игра прикольные, но друзей, согласных сыграть в неё нет :(
this game has clearly stagnated and died on the vine, and will forever remain in a weird sort of purgatory as far as development goes, but there are very few co-op games that do what this game manages to pull off pretty well. i would describe it as sea of thieves (minus pvp) meets ftl, and being compared to ftl is a huge compliment to any game.
