Been playing this with my brother and it's some of the most fun we have had in a while. Never expected that to come from a genre as frustrating as a bullet hell/Touhou style game. Last airship BH I played was Aegis Wing back on the Xbox 360. My only complaint is that while in co-op the visual white flashing from everything is a bit too much and there's no option that helps it. Also, why is there "stress" in one of the modes that has no way to see/no indicator and no real way of managing it ? it also stops the game every time you get stressed. At first I thought my computer started lagging.
Ok, vambora.
Really fun bullet hell. You get what you see, but what you see makes all your dopamine receptors fire at the same time.
Really good game. The music is just incredibly fun to listen to. But as most shoot'em ups it gets ridiculous at the end.
While not exactly being a traditional shmup, this game is super underrated and doesn't get enough recognition in the STG community. It's got way too much charm.
Much better than the original Project Starship. It immediately displays a lot of personality in the character selection (I bursted in laughter the first time I saw Sophie), and the graphics are much more detailed and distinctive, with some great sprite art and animation. My favourite enemy is a cultist you expect to summon who knows what eldritch horrors... and it's giant fists. Also "Zombie Hitler!... and his giant eyeball". Good soundtrack, too. More games should direct to the websites of their musicians. The ship is smaller, resulting in a larger and more "comfortable" play area. Shooting is now more similar to many bullet hells, as holding the fire key slows down the ship for finer maneuverability between enemy shots, with even two crossing lines appearing to signal where the ship is. The new main mechanic is the X Maneuver, a short dash during which the ship is safe from almost any damage and obstacle. With certain objects and enemies, it can also be used offensively or to cover a long distance quickly, as it's instantly recharged when dashing into them and can therefore be chained. While still randomly generated, the levels clearly show more enemy waves and hazards that feel designed "manually", and the game is generally much more fair, with warning signs signaling impending dangers or where impenetrable walls of bullets will appear. There are even passages when the ship transforms into a walker tank, and the X Maneuver is replaced by a jump to pass above some obstacles. It's not amazing, mainly because of visual noise that is not as bad as the previous game but still heavy and with no options to reduce it, which also includes the invasive UI at the sides of the screen. It explains itself too little, as it took me quite some time to even realize the offensive capabilities of the X Maneuver. Also, after a while I started not feeling so much difference between runs, to the point I wonder if it couldn't be just a "traditional" shmup instead of having overused roguelite elements. Still, it's a big improvement that makes me also curious to check what else the same developers have cooked, but if you are looking for a tightly designed experience you'd better look elsewhere.
This game is as addictive as it is colorful and seizure inducing ...oh yea....AND THE SOUNDTRACK IS GODLIKE
The character-selection alone warrants a thumb up from me!
