Well, I just finished my first playthrough and I have to say I was surprised at how much I want to play more. If you like games where you it doesn't hold your hand so much? This is one to consider. No GPS markers, to use the map, you actually have to figure out how to read a map. The low poly world will bother you for a half hour or so and then it grows on you. Interesting lore snippets with a faction system that actually feels relevant to pay attention to. Be aware, if you're not so hot at gunplay? Expect to die a lot until you get the hang of it. (However, the default "keep 5 items, recover the rest from your body" mechanic works as a great option to not get too frustrated.) Absolutely did not regret the purchase, and I'm looking forward to seeing what the devs will add in the future... Now excuse me whilst I make a second character.

Yes with caveats. The game does gunplay and horror very well, building a universe that is interesting. The firefights are similar to the Stalker series relying on prep, tactical movement, and sometimes just avoiding a fight entirely. The actual enemies need rebalancing in my opinion. Many lower tier enemies are quiet easily dispatched and after time start coming in big swarms that are fun to fight off. However higher tier enemies can be very frustrating such as hit squads that track and follow you, beaming you like a laser with advanced weapons and no armor can really withstand it. The firefights go from fun to not so much in that case. The navigation and missions likewise range from pretty well done to absolute pain. I get it, handholding with navigation marks is dumb, but if you want to forego that you need to create a more organic way of guiding players so they don't have to wander around everywhere lost. Because of so many reused assets and very simple color palettes a lot of areas look the same. What in the landscape is interactable and what isn't? Sometimes you just can't tell. The game has a lot to offer at the moment, but it also needs more time baking before it's done because it's a fine line between fun and frustration with these sorts of games.
While a generally great game overall, there are a few problems I have experienced regularly: 1. Sound design needs a full rework. A full-sized Buck running through the concrete streets is completely silent. A regular NPC enemy makes running sounds but while they are motionless are completely silent (no rustling of fabric, no breathing, no equipment noises). A wild dog will run up to you and the only indication will be that you took damage or a bark occasionally. 2. Enemy spawn and strategy. You can run into a town, get into a firefight with Faction A's squad and suddenly a team from Faction B walks up (mortal enemies of Faction A) and join them in blasting you, THEN kill each other. You can wake up from your safehouse, walk out and be instantly surrounded by heavily armed NPCs with pinpoint aim. Enemies that have had their whole squad wiped out won't run away but silently hide in a corner waiting for you to loot (Monolith from STALKER but applied to all NPCs) 3. Player and NPC movement speed. Normal humanoids (Player and NPC) can cover the distance of a small town in seconds by sprinting. Walking and crouching feels like you are constantly sprinting, there is almost no sense of character physics other than a camera wobble and, combined with the sound issues mentioned previously, this means that a squad of troops can run into the town you are looting, surround you and wait silently or just constantly run in circles around you while accurately hitting you. 4. Enemy accuracy and vision. While I mentioned accuracy in my previous point, I don't think the problem is as simple as "Enemy aim too good!". If you are motionless, popping off shots and generally not moving around then you should get your position zero'd in on pretty fast. In my opinion the two main problems are the lack of locomotion in movement/character physics and lack of general cover and concealment.
Holy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ does climbing in this game suck. Ladders, chains, you name it. 80% of my deaths have been to falling cus of the horrible climbing mechanic.
I keep coming back to this game and it goes from strength to strength! Its really enjoyable as it stands with ALOT of content, mysteries and story. Combat is Harsh but enjoyable early - mistakes are punished, and you feel yourself progressing in power as you gear up, trade and explore. Exploring the "Dungeons" for the first time feels like a real adventure with peril and actual risk/rewards. Especially if you play on the "dark souls" type gameplay where you lose your gear except 5 items if you die. The atmosphere is top notch with excellent sound design and weird cosmic horrors to experience and uncover. Nights are actually dark and that makes this a rare survival game that feels like a genuine survival in an apocalyptic graveyard. Definitely don't sleep on this one!
I will say three things about this game, :stress: one the weird gay/liberal/woke agenda stuff is the ONLY bad part of this game. :stress: Two it is with out a doubt one of the BEST horror survival game I have ever played, with out a doubt. Three I truly do love this excellent game, it's unique lore and setting is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ cool, last time I enjoyed a game this much I was still in my 20s
Project Silverfish so far has a lot of what I have been looking for in gaming, from the gunfights where you have no idea what will happen next, to the random anomalies I find myself fleeing the gunfight into, to the random creatures that make navigation tricky or useful being meat shields for that military kill squad. The game has a lot of good mechanics, and the lore leaves me wanting to understand not only the world but the reasons for the factions goals. I will gladly wait for an update, and will return when more content is released. I ask for the dev to take there time and enjoy what they are making, no need to rush, or listen to the pressure of others. Keep on keeping on.
