As a side-scrolling platformer game, Project Mercury really brings me back to the ol' 80s and 90s games. The bright, and neon coloured linear designs over a black BG reminds me of those ol' retro-style shooter games. You're basically jumping over obstacles, shooting enemies and climbing walls to progress towards whatever's coming from the right of the screen. There's various monsters you encounter, and more difficult ones comes in later in the game. My main issue is the limited screen space that we have. Often when we're jumping off the highest platform on the map, our character clipped off to the top of the screen which is annoying. The 8-bit music is fitting, and varies from norrmal run theme, and a boss fight theme. There's different maps to complete, and though the story is lacking; the game strongly resembles the old Megaman and Metroid games. I liked it. It may not be the cup of tea for younger gamers, who haven't experienced the old-school game. But as a 90s kid myself, I enjoyed it whole-heartedly. I'd vouch for Project Mercury.

Nice game with fair achievements.
Not fun
Nice game
A sluggish and amateurish idea, probably a student project, that shouldn't be marketed. As a learning project, I can give it credit because it was able to implement many systems that can be encountered in most side-scrolling-type games. I cannot really give props in anything else. The soundtrack is generic but works. The art is bland, as is the overall sound. Everything feels unfocused and blurry with no real soul. The player movement looks and feels janky. Also, the playable character is way too big compared to the rest of the environment, making moving and shooting awkward. The gameplay is especially boring. There's some enemy and weapon variety, but not enough to make a big impact. Because of the janky movement and the overall bad scaling of the environment, you are going to spend some time retrying some levels, making it an even more unfun experience. In this type of game the player is expected to be progressing at a much faster rate than you will find yourself in.
This game is supposed to be a student project, where the developer-in-training creates his or her very first computer game, and it is still far from being ready for commercial publication. As an amateur work, it remains substandard in many aspects. It might be inspired by some of the Power Rangers games in the past, but the quality is still far below those titles. The graphics are understandable as an 8-bit retro style, but the gameplay features poorly designed enemies with fluctuating yet predictable movements, which make the gameplay unreasonably and unnecessarily difficult. The screen is also too close-up, which is not suitable for a side-scrolling shooter. It is not worthwhile to create a new 8-bit retro side-scrolling shooting game that is worse than Contra or Mega Man from the Famicom era. I did not find it enjoyable to keep playing.
There are some great ideas in it, but it is hard to get the hang of it.
