Prey

This is one of the best games I've ever played. The balance of mechanics (stealth, crafting, neuromods, weapon upgrades) and the pace at which they are introduced is near-perfect. The game gets you just accustomed to certain types of enemies or core mechanics (like neuromods) before introducing a whole new variation of that mechanic. You're not forced to care about characters in any sort of contrived way, it just happens naturally as you discover transcribes and have interactions with them while following the main game of the story. There are plenty of side missions to go on, but never an overwhelming number. For being a generally linear game, the exploration that you're able to do as a player is so much fun and feels freeing. I've crawled through vents, snuck over walls, ducked behind cover to sneak past enemies, and sometimes ran straight through a room to get to wherever I was going next. Graphics-wise, the textures and models are quite good even for "low" settings (I'm running this on a ThinkPad with no actual graphics card), and performance has been stellar. At any graphics setting, the art direction really carries the look of the game. It's coherent, unique (while still being inspired by franchises like Alien), and certainly kept me immersed on the Talos I for the ~22 hours it took me to beat it. I bought this game on sale because I had heard it was pretty good. Buy it on sale or don't, I would've absolutely paid full price for it. I'm surprised that this game isn't more popular, considering it's now one of my favorites. I will absolutely play Prey again (probably soon). I recommend that you do too.

Probably one of the best beginning sequences I've ever played in a game. The skill trees are easy to manage and the replayability is high.

I want nothing more than to see Talos 1 and everyone on board blasted into one billion tiny pieces. The only thing in this world that saddens me is that Talos 1 can only be destroyed once. I wish Talos 1 could be trapped in a self sustaining chain of nuclear explosions until the end of time. God, I just want to see Talos 1 burn before I die. MORGAN. Please trust that vlog you made from when you were having a psychotic meltdown last month. Killing yourself, as well as everyone else on board was the most rational conclusion you could have possibly arrived at. Don't second guess yourself. Morgan. This means everything to me. Please.
