Powargrid is a great board game like abstract game. The relatively simple rules create interesting and complex situations. Things that are great: 1) Very simple rules that are explained thoroughly in the campaign 2) Interesting campaign missions that clearly had a lot of thought put into them 3) Very amusing sense of humor in the mission dialogue 4) The concept for the game is fantastic – easy to learn hard to master is /very/ overused but this game seems to be a good example There are only a few things that are a little frustrating. 1) is there a way to skip the (admittedly very funny the first time) dialogue in the missions? 2) is there a way to scroll around the screen? I usually play games like this while Netflix is on the other half of the screen but doing so without a way to scroll to the part of the map is not workable. 3) keyboard shortcuts: they don't appear to be re-bindable, for people starting the game the towers are 1,2,4,5 (I assume tower 3 is just introduced past the part I am?), having the end turn key be hitting tab twice without a way to change it is odd at best and annoying at worst.
Tower defense type. Build some pipes and observe what've you built. After that build some towers and destroy enemy's pipeline system. Each action cost energy points. Turn based gameplay, slow pace and everything what can be bad it's in this game.
why can't i save it or pause it? those are the BIG problems with the game the first few levels are okay like levels 1-6 they are fine but after that it starts getting boring.
Once you give it a go, it is hard to stop. Well designed, very challenging! I'm not so much into the stories, but the humor is great.
So I am enjoying getting my face kicked in by the AI... when you are enjoying a game you are not winning at, you know the devs have done something right! Pros - Easy-ish to learn but difficult to master - Interface is clean - 'Fun' vibe, the game does not take itself too seriously - Complex, multiple ways to victory: cut your enemy off, charge foward to destroy their structures and so on Cons - *Might* be a bit punishing to those new to the strategy genre - If you have to restart a mission (like me) there is a quite annoying wait/'warp' tunnel + you have to listen to the NPC again (please allow this to be skipped devs, please! =) ) If you'd you care for more detail, feel free to check out my introduction/basics guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gqIHob2A44
Nice little game, like chess...but chess is easy, this is not. But seriously, good game that is very challenging to play. The AI is beating me so far :-). Campaign is also nice to play through, made me chuckle! Definately a game I recommend. Have fun y'all.
(I was killing my voice in this probably shouldn't do that again haha) Nothing beats a good day by Racism between different flavors of jelly beans. Here is my Experience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhDNJ653fqE Powargrid is exactly as it sounds, your goal is to build the most efficient power grid of lines weapons, power sources, and more. all in the name of your "flavor" of life. because you are blue... da ba di da ba DIE!, and all other colors are evil... for no reason that you need to concern yourself with. A game that looks a little chaotici in the menu, but ends up having 2 faces 1. Strategy when playing against the AI or your friends, you have to plan out and plan your placement of your lines power plants and more to make sure you have the most efficient way to build and destroy you opponent! 2. Puzzle When apart of the campaign you goal changes to find a way to complete your mission with the spaces and goals in mind! The game is fun and can be redundant at times but the premise and design is solid! Tho I have to mention if it wasn't for the jellys and their story this game would be boring, but I wanted to keep playing and find out more and more of whats going on, and I do hope that it builds to an actual one as it goes on! But enough of that here are the Pros and Cons Pros - Solid, it seems to be a finished style product with minimal bugs(I found none) - Easy to play, difficult to master - Captivating story of love and woe... okay it's jellies complaining about other jellies and color racism exsist strong and alive in the world of beans. - Well built and has room to expand even further! - Achievements, there is always something to try to earn! Cons - Lack of ability to destroy what you build and redo your mistakes, or make completely new ones! - Quicker gameplay such as adjustable speed options in games - Going back and forth to select items to build (maybe use scroll mouse to change between buildables?) - Explosions seem to lack... umph. - It was hard to think of Cons In the end this game is good, simple and fun, I feel as tho I need more shiny things to keep my attention as there is Insane jellies bonded with serious game play, I feel like I need the mixture to swap with either bizarre towers and serious jellies. just to add to the chaos. What came to mind is an active mode where instead of turn based, everything is live, generating power over time and having to make quick decisions to take out your opponent, the gameplay on the main menu is what gave me that impression. Great game I will recommend to others if you like puzzles and strategies!
TLDR: This game has been worth it for me, and I would recommend you and a friend to get it. The campaign for this game is very fun and has several twists. The only way to win is to try and try again until you have found the perfect build order. There is a lot of humour and the devs obviously put some time into the storyline. The campaign really helps you learn the game so that a tedious tutorial is not needed (it is within the campaign and is not tedious). The multiplayer has potential. Currently, there are only 1 v 1 battles, but the devs have stated that more options are being worked on. 1 v 1 battles are fun; my friend and I have probably played 10 matches since we bought the game. We have both observed that if we could have a lot more fun, however, once there can be 4 player free for alls and 2 v 2 matches. Overall, this game is great, and has potential to be even greater. Currently, if you want to play multiplayer, you need a friend with the game, but the community is growing, so that may not last very long. EDIT: They also added trading cards, soooooo
Strategy is my favorite genre but Powargrid is just too annoyingly hard. The Normal mode is very punishing and there are parts of some levels where unknown information will cause you to fail a level your first time just on the basis of not having any warning of new contrived rules. The AI always plays perfectly and when it already has the advantage there are only a few key moves that can win any stage past the halfway point of the campaign. When retrying a stage you must watch any animations and click through dialogue so it takes awhile to even get to try again. The gameplay is very restrictive in that there is no option to sell or undo and you can only build over connectors not other buildings. Multiplayer does not work and several achievements are impossible to get. It's not a bad game overall I guess, but there's nothing I would recommend about it.
Shallow and lacking depth Interesting concept but not executed well in an already niche genre filled with more compelling and confidently designed games to play. 5/10
