About
The sun is your deadliest enemy.
In Plains of Pain, you fight extreme heat, thirst, toxic air, and ruthless enemies in a vast post-apocalyptic wasteland.
Build bases and settlements, trade with NPCs, craft gear and anti-gravity hover vehicles, and use them to move faster across the desert.
Outposts are constantly fought over by factions. Survive solo or with friends and decide where you stand.
Humanity stood at the peak of technological achievement when it all went wrong. For reasons no one could explain, the sun began unleashing colossal solar flares—so powerful they vaporized Mercury and Venus within days. Earth was next. The heat rose, fast and merciless. Panic spread like wildfire.
The world’s leaders didn’t save anyone. They saved themselves. In a secret evacuation project, the powerful and the wealthy abandoned Earth, leaving the rest behind to face the inferno. Civilization cracked, then crumbled. What was once a thriving world fragmented into chaos and dust.
The land is now a scorched wasteland. Blistering heat and relentless drought have drained the planet dry. Most of the remaining survivors lost their minds long ago—wandering the deadlands in search of scraps of food or drops of water.
Two factions now fight to bring some semblance of order to the madness. Each claims to be humanity's last hope—but they have very different visions of what the future should look like. If you don't have reputation with them, you're nothing. Just another ghost in the heat.
And this is where your story begins.
You're no one. No past, no protection—just the will to live. Survive however you can. Earn trust from the factions... or walk your own path. Stay neutral, or pick a side. There are no easy choices. Trade, build, explore. Dig into the ruins of the world and decide for yourself who’s right, who’s wrong—and who’s already lost.

Survive your way—solo or with others. Plains of Pain offers full singleplayer, co-op with friends, and online play on official or community servers. Prefer local play? Host or join a game over LAN. Whether you're a lone survivor or part of a crew, the wasteland is waiting.
Build your home, your base—or an entire settlement. Use modular pieces for total creative freedom. Set up stations to purify water, craft materials, and survive. Grow into an outpost with barracks, sniper towers, and a Grand Shack that supports wastelanders—if you can supply food and water. Find blueprints in the wasteland, trade for them, or loot them off the dead.
Traverse the wasteland in advanced hovering vehicles built with future tech. Craft them from blueprints found or bought, fuel them up, and hit the dust. Each vehicle comes with storage, a fuel tank, and unique fuel types. Upgrade speed, acceleration, armor, durability, and more. If you want to explore the far reaches of the world—you're gonna need a ride.
The wasteland doesn’t forgive. Learn to manage thirst, hunger, heat stress, radiation, biohazards, and fatigue—or die trying. Face off against deadly enemies, loot their bodies, and decide what’s worth carrying. Deal with Overheat events, meteor showers, and brutal bandits. Choose your allies, find traders, upgrade your gear. There’s no single way to survive—only what works. For now.
The wasteland’s outposts hold rare and vital resources—and the factions want them all. Their forces fight to claim and defend each one. As a lone survivor, you can tip the scales. With enough reputation, you can capture outposts for a faction of your choice, shifting power across the land. No outpost stays safe for long.
Begin with intro quests that teach you the basics—but the real journey starts when you explore. The wasteland is filled with NPCs offering hidden tasks, challenges, and rewards. Some quests are key to increasing your skill caps, letting you grow stronger. Bigger, story-driven missions are coming later—but even now, there’s no shortage of quests. You just have to find them.
Customize your survivor with a bunch of unique skills that shape how you play. Earn experience points (XPs) by eliminating enemies, building, trading, looting, or completing quests. Each level grants a Skill Point to spend—boost your health, regeneration, melee damage, or fine-tune your stealth, critical hits, trader prices, firearm accuracy, and more. Every choice makes a difference in the wasteland.
Craft to survive. Build melee weapons, firearms, ammo, armor, and gear like backpacks or shoulder plates. Cook food, assemble vehicle parts, or make containers for precious liquids. In the wasteland, crafting isn’t a choice—it’s your lifeline.
Traders are scattered across the wasteland—in camps, settlements, and hidden corners. Each one belongs to a faction, and trading with them boosts your reputation. Most deal in Rusty Nuts, the common currency, offering everything from random goods to specialized gear. Some even offer cargo delivery jobs for a solid profit—turning you into a wasteland courier. Buy what you need, sell what you don’t. In a world this harsh, trading can keep you alive.
Build and supply settlements to shape life in the wasteland. Bring food and water to attract wastelanders and grow the population. As your settlement expands, it activates production buildings that generate useful items—and defending units to fight off waves of mad lowlifes and ruthless bandits. The bigger the population, the tougher the attacks. But with strong defenses and smart support, your settlement becomes a lifeline—and even draws in traders to keep it thriving.
The wasteland is never quiet. It breathes, it moves—and it hunts. Massive hordes of Lowlifes roam the scorched lands, drawn to movement, noise, and any sign of life. Camps, outposts, and settlements are like beacons to them. These heat-crazed madmen don’t think—they swarm. If you're caught unprepared, they’ll overwhelm you in seconds. Survive long enough, and you’ll learn: it’s not a question of if the horde comes. Only when.
Every choice counts in the wasteland. Barter, complete quests, or eliminate faction targets to earn reputation with the factions. Higher reputation unlocks access to special outposts, better trading options, and unique production opportunities. You can fight in faction wars anytime—but only with enough reputation will a faction trust you to claim outposts in their name.
Wherever The Network’s signal reaches, you can call in cargo—vehicles, fuel barrels, even faction battle drones. Your order is delivered by flying transport straight to your location. But be smart about where you call it in—enemy factions can spot the drop and shoot it down before it reaches you. In the wasteland, every delivery is a risk.
No two journeys are the same. Each world is shaped by a unique seed, creating endless variations in terrain, enemy spawns, trader inventory, and loot. Biomes offer distinct challenges—extreme heat, radiation, oxygen loss, or rare enemies and resources. Some offer better shade, others hide deadly threats. Choose your world size—up to 26x26 km—and dive into a wasteland that’s always changing.
This world doesn’t just kill—you have to outthink it. Global events like Overheat and Meteor Showers can wipe you out in seconds. When the Overheat hits, your only chance is shade. When the sky rains fire, find cover fast and learn where it’s coming from. These events are brutal, unpredictable, and always deadly. Surviving them means paying attention—or paying the price.

We don’t follow a rigid roadmap—our development is flexible, shaped by player feedback, our own ideas, and the evolving vision of Plains of Pain. But make no mistake: we know where we’re heading. More vehicles, weapons, and blueprints. Expanded settlement systems. New enemies, biomes, and extreme events. Storyline quests, deeper NPCs, and more locations to explore. Whether you prefer PvE or PvP, there’s a lot on the way—and we’re just getting started.

Plains of Pain is in Early Access—and your voice matters. We're building this world with the community, listening to your feedback, suggestions, and experiences. At the same time, we have a strong vision of where the game is headed: a brutal, immersive survival experience set in a world that doesn’t hold your hand. Join us on the journey. Help shape the wasteland, one update at a time.

We’re Cobra Byte Digital—just three people with a big vision and a love for brutal survival games. Plains of Pain is our passion project, and no matter what, we’re committed to reaching full release. After that, we’re not stopping. As long as we have ideas—and as long as the community sticks with us—we’ll keep the wasteland alive and evolving.

j'adore ce jeux hâte que il évolue :)
This game could have been a good one, but unfortunately, in this version, it isn’t. It’s a great idea poorly executed. It’s sort of a “Max Mad”–style Fallout survival game that could have been so much more. I don’t even understand why, but despite this, I’m still giving it a positive review. However, I’m noting the following issues, which are still present in version 0.8.10 as of June 2026. I think that even though it’s in Early Access, bugs like these shouldn’t be present at such a high version number. - Inventory management is horrible, small boxes, and heavy objects, i think at least the half of my gameplay was inventory management - There are no options for sorting, filtering, or grouping items in the inventory, and when packing or unpacking, the order changes randomly—the items jump around all over the place in the inventory. - if i have for example 50 wood in my inventory, and i try to put it into a box, but if it doesn't all fit, it won't add anything with just two clicks; I have to break it down into smaller portions beforehand and figure out for myself how much more will fit. - blueprints, clothes, armors and bags can't move to the boxes with double click, you have drag and drop these type of stuff, it's also very anoying - when i try to upgdare my can, and i have more then one item to upgrade, and i want to use 1-1-1 all of my 3 cars, i can't. When i click just once, it will use all of the upgrade items at once with the first car. I have to put all other upgrade items in another storage, if i want to use only one with the first car, and do it with all one by one, it's also a very clumsy design - If I'm building a structure, it adds all the raw materials with a single click, even if I didn't want to put everything in there - If a building isn't finished yet but I want to tear it down, or if I tear down a building that's already finished, I won't get any raw materials back - You can't walk through NPCs or push them aside, so if you're inside a building and one of them is blocking the doorway, you'll get stuck - When your car explodes, you at least have the option to recall it from the menu, but it reappears in 100% condition—you don’t even have to repair it. However, whatever fuel was in it has turned into poison and needs to be drained out. This is a good example of the game’s logic. An illogical and completely unnecessary feature has been implemented—it’s programmed so that the fuel doesn’t explode along with the car and disappear, but instead turns into poison, which is completely illogical. But the car returns in 100% condition and doesn't need to be repaired, which would be logical. Certain parts of the game are programmed with excessive detail, while other parts lack even the basics you'd expect. - If you'll have to pick up some stuff with a quest, like poker chips, you just have to pick up the first pack, maybe 15 pcs, then put it into a box, and pick up again and again, and the quest is counting with it, it's also a very poor programming error - There are car wrecks in the world that you can either loot or take apart with a sledgehammer to get metal parts! It’s one or the other! Why? It’s another silly and illogical restriction—in real life, you could search a car for valuables and then also strip off any external metal parts you can use. Oh, and of course, if you break it down into metal parts with a sledgehammer, the car doesn’t disappear—it stays there in its entirety. - When you want to use a machine to produce something—for example, a water purifier or a fuel generator—you need to add 1-1-1 parts of charcoal or fat, along with 1-1-1 parts of water or oil. So, for example, if you add 1 portion of fat and 0.2 liters of oil, the production capacity will increase by, say, 10%, and you have to do this many times in a row to fully load a machine for production—which is also a very clunky solution. Of course, the “double-click” shortcut doesn’t work here either. Why can't this work the same way as in other games, where you just put in as much X fat and Y oil as you can and want, and the game produces as much as it can from that? This really ruins the game, too. - If you craft something that’s heavy and no longer fits in your inventory, you won’t be overloaded and forced to move very slowly—instead, the game will drop that item on the ground. In this case, you can’t even pick it up because it won’t fit in your inventory, and items on the ground disappear over time, so if you can’t manage to clear out your inventory and pick it up within a short time, you’ll lose it. - You can't stack certain items, such as meat, first-aid kits, repair kits, canned food, etc. There's no point in doing so anyway—it just makes the inventory list longer, slows down the game's loading time, and makes it harder to find things. - Every camp has NPCs with really annoying voices. Either the robots repeat the same line over and over, or it’s soldiers, or the undead with their “help me” cries. This wouldn’t be a problem in and of itself if they did it very rarely. But, say, hearing “help me” every 10 seconds is incredibly annoying. There are a lot of inconsistencies like this in the game, or features that should be completely basic but haven’t been implemented yet in version 0.8.10; in contrast, unnecessary inconsistencies have already been added, such as the car turning into poison after it explodes. Despite this, you can see the good intentions, care, and hard work that went into this game; it just seems a bit as if these guys have never seen or played a survival game before. There’s still a lot of work to be done to eliminate all the annoying elements from this game, make it fun to play, and ensure that every feature works logically and as expected, but in any case, I’d like to wish the game the best of luck in advance!

I want to like this, on paper its exactly the kind of game I enjoy but, in its current state its barely playable. Enemy AI is bad, the crafting system is terrible and makes no sense a lot of the time. Combat mechanics are floaty and easily cheesed. I couldnt find any sense of progression, theres no character customization, the characters that are available are bland and kinda suck. Id like to say theres at least the start of a good game here, but I dont see one. Maybe Ill come back on the off chance this ever gets to 1.0 but for now I wouldnt recommend anyone buy this.
весело побігати погратись, є баги, неприємні прям баги, та гра прикольна, раджу пограти. Українська локаліщація досить забагована теж, пружини переклали як "Весна"
VERY flat. Literally. Multiplayer only means 40. :( Not for me.
Really enjoying it so far! Plains of Pain has a great atmosphere and really nails the post-apocalyptic feeling. There are plenty of things to discover, and the game has a certain janky quality to it — but in a good way. It gives the game a lot of character. I’ve also barely encountered any bugs so far. That being said, there are a few things I’d love to see improved: Quality of Life * I’d really like some kind of refund system when dismantling structures. I spent quite a while gathering materials to build a workbench, only to dismantle it because I wanted to move it. Unfortunately, I lost all the materials. * The inventory system could use some improvements. Automatic sorting and an easier way to transfer items would be great. * I’d also appreciate a more detailed tutorial. Some things, like how to repair equipment or how to get water, aren’t explained very well. Combat The combat is currently quite simple. I’d love to see more depth added over time — things like parrying, shields, dodging/rolling, or other defensive mechanics could make fights much more interesting. I only encountered one actual issue where I couldn’t pick up items I had dropped. Apart from that, I haven’t had many problems with bugs. Some additional features I’d personally love: * A character creator. I’m not a huge fan of playing predefined characters. * Maybe an optional first-person perspective. Despite all of these suggestions, I absolutely recommend the game. I’ve had a lot of fun with it so far, and the post-apocalyptic setting feels really well done. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy survival games with a gritty post-apocalyptic atmosphere.
