Placebo Effect

A 6DOF shooter where you're purging your body of viruses and other tiny nasties. The gameplay itself is alright, though it's rather weird that the mouse only moves the aiming cursor on screen, not the camera. That's a separate button to change to camera mode where you can only move the camera, making it cumbersome or just risky to use in combat. Music is decent too. This game stutters like crazy. Literally every few seconds. Most targets are big and don't require precise aiming, but it is still incredibly annoying and unacceptable at this frequency. 3 of the Achievements also don't work. What would've been an alright thumbs up is turned into a thumbs down thanks to these.

"Placebo Effect" is a particularly badly made, and completely failed attempt to make yet another third person shooter set inside someone's body. Look, there's a reason nobody talks about Fantastic Voyage anymore and there's a reason that didn't start an entire genre of movies about shrinking people to wander around the human body... it's just not a good idea. And coupling that with shoddy gameplay and laughably bad game assets is not going to make the bad idea work better. What do you do in the game? Fly around, shoot invading bacteria or whatever... it's hard to tell because the graphics are so bad. The graphics aren't great... that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging an eye watering, completely delusional $15 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.

Pretty fun, needs a little work in the preferences department but a cool concept and not as gross as it sounds to play. :)
