Game is very, very, very alpha. Weird gameplay design choices abound. Some of the most egregious ones include there being no resist for status effects, combined with the AI having unlimited uses for its moves (while you don't). So, while the AI is fairly dumb, sometimes it will stumble upon a "god combo" that ends with your entire team being wiped. Like cycling sleep - again no status resists, so if the AI casts sleep, you're dreamin' baby - followed by no response strike. So basically your entire team gets knocked unconscious and beaten to death while you do nothing but hit skip turn. And this happens from only one of 4 enemy pokemon, I mean, pixels. This isn't a one off occurrence either. ALL status effects can't be resisted. And the AI's status effects are 100% more effective than yours. Better hope the AI doesn't start spamming Dizzy, or your creatures will be hitting themselves in the face until they're all dead. What's even more hilarious is evasion, if the AI decides to start casting that every 3 or 4 turns... or every turn... they are invincible and cannot be hit by anything. Good game, gotta manually abandon your run. Speaking of runs, the meta progression between runs is woefully inadequate. Upgrade choices are like elixir, more elixir and super elixir. Woo. Give me some cool itemization, some abilities that carry between runs, something. As it stands the game feels mega bland and like it's pointless to do more runs, even after a short time. Overall, this game may eventually be pretty good but I can't recommend it in its current form.
This is a lot of fun; strong recommend for fans of Pokemon Nuzlockes. There are some major balance issues currently, but these could be addressed down the road. Despite its rough edges, I really like it!
This one is kind of rough so far. You start the game as an old man with no story to speak of. You can choose between 1 of 3 starters at the beginning of your run. As you go you progress using tiles to determine what type of encounter you might have however you don't really have any indication what these might be before hand, some hold battles, some hold a healing clinic / shop, others hold a random battle against an npc. However I encountered these so early on that I wasn't able to really take advantage of shops because the game doesn't start you out with any amount of currency. Getting into the battles they are very basic and slow. Early on the monsters seem to have a lot of stat debuffing / enhancing moves but they don't seem to really do much. You can pretty much always use your strongest skill. The moves say they have a "cost" associated with them but it doesn't really seem clear what that really does as it didn't have an effect on any meter or anything and I was still able to use any skill I wanted every single time. Otherwise battles are 1 on 1 and they are pretty much just who can hit fastest. I would like a speed boost option in battles at the very least. The battle music is pretty nice though. The monsters seem pretty limited right now and they don't seem to have evolutions at all. They also have some pretty hit or miss designs. The customization of the monster itself feels very limiting without any sort of battle trait, hold items, or varied moveset. I also tried to use a controller and while it displayed prompts it didn't let me use it at all. It then drifted the camera off into the void so I couldn't see any parts of the map thus not being able to select anything. Overall I'd say wait on this one, it seems to be in an extremely early state.
I really like the "pp cost" system. It makes things a lot more interesting for me than the classic stamina bar, or spamming the same move over and over again. The games is challenging and the battles can go in a unexpected, and whimsical way. So you got to learn the right moves to use. At least they went kind of crazy for me. Cant wait for upcoming updates and new monsters.
I usually don't get early access games but this game caught my eye! I can't wait for more additional content and Pixels! There are not many turn base games with awesome animations like this. I would definitely recommend and help support small game developers! This game is not a walk in the park! You have to use your brain for sure :)
Fights and design are great. The way pp works is cool because you can spam the same move (each time you repeat a move in a row the cost increase by 1) But the game is still in an early state so there is some quality of life change needed (like removing battle animation and maybe displaying if which move is super effective and being able to show what does an effect like burn does) If you're looking for a pokemon like roguelite then you should try that game.
From the instant I started the game, I was intrigued. From playing an unconventional playable character (pretty sure it's Danny Trejo) to an array of odd, entertaining critters, it's loads of fun so far. Anyone bored to tears of Pokemon and it's many, many clones, will find this is refreshing.
I have beat the full game except the Final boss - THE EYE - Which I personally think is impossible to beat . Here is my Full Playthrough- https://youtu.be/5DjHJq1zWYc Firstly it's really impressive that only two people have made this game, secondly I really enjoyed my time in this game, it's not your typical Monster taming game where you have an open world to explore and choose your own adventure on your own terms. This is a no-nonsense straight to action game, where you have to fight every single step of the Journey. It's also very balanced in terms of map design as each path is very unique and different from the other, some will lead you to more monsters while others may lead you to more mysterious places. Overall it's a great game, definitely has some minor bugs like sometimes the animation freezes and the game cannot proceed further without quitting the whole game. It only happened once though. Score - 7/10 - Go for it !!
I was cautious about buying this without finding any current gameplay footage on YouTube; the only video I could find was this one from June: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoNheS9YZrc The game is in the same state, except a few hand-drawn bosses in the above video have been replaced by 3D-modeled variants. I don't want to be overly harsh, as there are many clever ideas and potential for fun. But this game currently feels earlier than early access, and in its current state, it should be released as a demo to get feedback and continue to polish the game rather than released as it is. Nearly everything is a placeholder, from animations to characters to most art assets. The game design is super early, and the progression feels rough. Systems and gameplay aren't yet explained; things happen at random. I ran into a few game-breaking bugs and some misspellings and was pretty turned off by the overall experience. I'd recommend you watch the YouTube video above and judge if that experience and being one of the early adopters is worth your purchase. If this title were under $10 or a demo, I wouldn't even be leaving a review like this, but I feel it's not worth $20 in its current state by a long shot. I will leave feedback for the devs on their Discord and keep an eye on this title. Making a game is hard; I wish you all the best of luck and will check back in a bit to see the progress. :)
