Seemingly abandoned by the developer. The last communication was in june of 2022, promising an upcoming "complete overhaul". After nearly two years of total radio silence, it's safe to say that they've moved on. Its current state isn't terrible. But it's clearly unfinished, and will forever remain so.
Update: Development is on hold since 2 years now and during this time the developer focused on another game which is also on hold for now. He promisses that both games will be more or less remade from scratch due to now having a better understanding of game-development. And this all sounds great but right now i own 2 games from Xendra and neither of them is even close to feature or content complete and with the pause button pressed. There is no certaincy about when or if those game eventualy are done or even updated at this point - we might aswell look forward to a 3rd game to finance the other 2 games. From experience i can tell you that to 95% those games will never make it to 1.0, Please proof me wrong here! Until then the review stays negative. ------------------------------------------------------ Original Review ------------------------------------------------------ If you like Roguelites, Deckbuilders, "Pokemon"-like collecting monsters/enemies to use them in your team, unique mechanics and clever additions with perma progression and progression carrying over from run to run - THIS IS IT! Initialy i thought its hard to get into from what i saw on pictures and in videos BUT the tutorial explains it well and its not that hard - but you can definately big-brain the game later on! (which is intended by the dev) Developer is very active with constant updates and fixes and the game feels less cheap/indie like i first thought - its well done from what i saw so far! Sure there are some little quirks but thats expected and totaly fine here. Give it a shot - im sure you wont regret it! :-)
I'd love to not have to write a review itself to state why I'm not recommending this game, but that's not possible. So, while I'll say that what's there is very enjoyable: that's all you're getting. It's clear their focus has shifted to their other project and utterly abandoned this one for the foreseeable future. A shame, but they seem to be enjoying their time with their other project quite a bit; and, well, I'm not their parent. What they wish to do is their own business, but I'm reviewing a product here. So, at present, this feels like little more than a proof-of-concept. An enjoyable one, yes, but you shouldn't expect a finished product from this. I'll still probably play this more myself, but I couldn't in good conscience recommend others to purchase something that will never be finished. If SMT-like roguelike with fantasy cyberpunk aesthetics are your vibe, though, there's still something to be enjoyed here. Just a shame we'll never see what the completed package will be.
Abandoned. Dev seems to have some serious issues.
I am not enjoying it. I have had to "force" myself into playing it for 1 hour. Maybe it will get better? Eh. I don't like the "feel of the game". There are lots of badly explained skills. The debuffs are seemingly all the same, shock, freeze, bleed, they all just do 1 dmg per turn. Maybe they do something else, but it doesn't explain it well. I don't love the graphics. The enemies look fine, I just don't like the general layout and user experience. I guess you could say I don't like the style.
Okay, I'll take honor to write first negative review about this game on Steam because it really needs to have one. I can see how half of positive reviews are people who don't know full crime of this game, but nobody treats it as "bad". Let's begin with most obvious part - this game is Megami Tensei clone, stealing main gameplay feature of recent games fights known as PRESS TURN system. As it - you crit or hit "elemental weaknesses" and can continue with your next char to spam more skills, up to doubling your actions. More specifically - story and gameplay acts as sort of fanfiction to Digital Devil Saga RPG duology, but with some Nocturne and Persona 5 stuff thrown in. Gameplay should be not copyrighted by any means, but to make for shameful steal you need to add your own concepts. Let's check what game does: 1. Game adds second layer of "action points" in form of four types, which determines if you can use some skills at all. Yeah, it's kinda good and original system all right, but it also makes new skill gain too complex and random, if you aren't lucky enough with "spin" to get new skill of your type/level. Also, balance of skills is kinda weird for now, but it's alpha, so... 2. There is no fusion or talk options in game, you are getting new party members and skills from one-armed bandit during events or by sacrificing allies or by abducting/butchering last surviving enemy in battle for one of six skills. Sounds cool and nice, but then you realize game can make guy you wanted to butcher kill themselves by throwing powerful attack into your pal with reflect, bosses become free kids to join your caravan with lowered stats and nerfed skills after you take them to party (for balance purpose, of course, but still) and game treats your default red shirt guy like equal to big gun guy, meaning sometimes you can trade weakling for game-breaking item or skip very cool items because you got your last cool guy in team for sake of more "crystals" in battle. It's not roguelike, it's roguelite, so only solution is to reroll and/or farm. 3. Good RPG stuff like exploration or meaninful dialogues are thrown out of window, all you get is events which have nearly no downside or meaning to them (rare risk, most are "get red or blue action point"). Enemies shout and use profanity in battles by random, beg with items by random - it kinda looks lively, but not to level of last SMT/Persona. Biggest fun killer for me? Game utilizes Hinduism terminology, but all stuff around is your typical sci-fi fantasy cyberpunk kitchen with not-very-remarkable-designs. And as I understood you need to pay with "spins" to unlock their "lore" which does nothing, but adds "immersity" in game. Yikes, without any actual "free" lore from start this is giving me detachment, unlike Slay the Spire or Darkest Dungeon (game from which some features, like corpses during battles are inspired from). So can you see how game solves stuff and makes it stand out? Farm spins to solve all problems! Want some lore? Farm more spins! Bad skill choice? Farm more spins! Oh, and like good flash game, you get free stuff for joining community? Isn't it cool? All this makes game stand as too similar to Dx2, free mobile of SMT setting. There is even similar mode in that game which was out before this game was seemingly concepted. I played that and it was more forgiving with bosses and tactical with other encounters than this game. Here, I found no option to see enemy intent (should I guard? should I attack?), all simple encounters were solved by using random skill with "weak" mark on it and most bosses were solved by feature of "demonform". What is this? You sacrifice your pals to make your protag go into "boss mode" for few more turns . Last save throw before losing which is succesful if you are lucky to have skills boss weak to. Or you can just flee. So, game took frustrating parts of MT and enchanted them in masochistic and simplier way you will have fun only if you are addicted to PRESS TURN system or didn't hear about that at all, or you just can't afford to "play real Sheen Megumi Tensai game". There is no interesting story to follow, gameplay is shallowed version of MT games, "rogue" part is weak for now (I can't feel myself motivated to get into another round of RNG shenanigans) and all random screw-ups solved by another random option to spent some spins. Well, thanks at least for not having debuffs with random chance. Final nail to write this review negative for me was protag part. You see, you start with Bounty Hunter, masked human(?) which can act as your avatar regardless your sex, gender, race and all other stuff. Ideal SMT avatar. Then in first event enters Marty (Mary?) Sue of dev with name set as their own which suddenly takes control of party, acts as protag powerhouse and stays as this for rest of game presumably. You need to farm Spins to rename them. You can't customize them outside of skills. Hey, I thought I can feel myself immersed for a bit, not to be pointer of sudden dev's self-insert character. But you can customise. Your gender, in "profile" setting. Is it affecting gameplay somehow? Is it affecting UI or pronouns somehow? I don't see anything like that now. Maybe it's base for something more bigger and cooler in next updates, but it still feels weird. Like a cheapest way to get more LGBT fanbase in game which is not related (yet) to relationships or sex in any way. Maybe I can use my imagination for that side of protagonist, not functionally useless option in settings? As it stands now, it's expensive fanfic on DDS in which dev put their soul and mind, but forgot to add enough things making it really enjoyable, fair or original. It's EA for now, so there is room for improvment, but little calls like choosing priority of self-promotion (in your own game, but still), making "adult" stuff which sounds kiddish and adding weird options over actual quality or balance of game makes me wonder if this project will make this out of shadow of other games in genre.
The bastard child of Shin Megami Tensei and Slay the Spire. Fun game with a lot of options. Be warned the game can get difficult if you are not careful. Pros: Combat is fluid and entertaining. Artwork is pretty good. Interesting game mechanics to spice up your runs. The game's OST is great. Cons: Some game mechanics are confusing. Item balance could use quite a bit of work. Each run currently doesn't have that much content. All in all a fun early access game. Most of the cons I named can be worked on... not that I think my opinion is specially important or anything. In other words, this game has a lot of potential. Edit: During the time it took me to finish the main content, the game has had multiple patches that considerably changed the game. Balance patches are very frequent and there are also content patches from time to time. So the game experience might change completely. I can say that so far the game has been hard yet engaging. I am currently at Malice 15 for those interested in challenge runs and it's getting considerably harder to climb. I can say that even with max Malice the game should be theoretically possible from what I have played. It gets progressively more insane and while it is fun, it can also wear you down quickly. So just focus on having fun your way, the game provides you with different starting builds and demonforms to provide you with a new experience. I went from beating Malice 15 to get crushed in a normal run just because I tried a new starting build. Very fun.
TLDR: A massive mess of way too many mechanics dampens the more creative elements like capturing enemies. Also, abandoned in early access.

PROS:
➕Some unique concepts of capturing enemies ➕Good artstyle
CONS:
➖Abandoned early access game ➖Mechanic overload This is going to be a shorter review, because if the developer doesn’t get to finish their game, then I don’t have to put forth the effort of a full review. The obvious big negative for me is an abandoned early access game. The developer seems to have gone missing after working on another project, both remain unfinished. As such, I’m not waiting for EA to end, since it seems like it never will. I’m a pretty big veteran of card games, I’ve played both physical and digital card games for over two decades combined, so I am very fluent in card abilities and mechanics. Malice & Greed (M&G) goes to the absolute extreme with mechanics. Even the most basic skills have 2 or 3 effects stapled onto them, with some of the more complex skills having literally 6. Imagine in Magic the Gathering, playing for your first time, and seeing an enemy with Flying, LifeLink, First Strike, Reach, Trample, Shadow, Banding, Echo, and Landwalk. That would be a ton to digest your first time. I’m slightly exaggerating to get the point across, but my first impression of playing M&G was being constantly overwhelmed and confused about what was happening. Aside from the ridiculous multiple mechanics, the coolest concept is taking the last enemy you defeat onto your team. You can also eat them for max HP+ or kill them to steal their ability. It's almost like a brutal game of Pokemon combined with Slay the Spire. I dig it. I really think that the game should have focused purely on the abduction aspect and not try to have 10 other systems to overcomplicate things, or maybe introduce various systems as the player gets further into the game, because as it stands now its like a jumbled mess of overflowing ideas all crammed into a bag way too small.
Recommend? (Price) [Y/N]

No
Do the demo if you must, but strong recommend on DO NOT BUY since it's been abandoned. As of the time of this writing, this game is in Early Access. It's still a bit rough around the edges. A few bits of obscurity, some odd jumps here and there. Definitely can get really, REALLY rough early on, when you're still trying to get your bearings and figure out what's what. I think it has something great in the makings, though. Potential is an amazing gating mechanic, and many of the keywords, mechanics, and concepts that the developer, Xendra, has shown off really rock (buff/debuff stacks as a resource, for one). Xendra also has been regularly updating the game with new content, along with tweaks based on feedback, which is definitely a good plus. The art and music, apropos of Lyfeu and Val respectively (and visceral SFX by Phoenix), absolutely bang, and add a very distinct aesthetic combination. All in all, I'm definitely looking forward to the finished product. EDIT: oopsies i did not know who did what, changed that
Developer abandoned the game. No update since 2022.
