For the price, you can't go wrong. I prefer other 6DOF games over this, but wanted to try it out since it came up on my queue. Pros- + Visuals look decent most of the time + Controls are simple but good + The ambient music was nice Cons- - The filters can be a bit awful at times - animations can be a bit wonky would recommend
Interesting level generation to fly around and shoot. It has potential to evolve into a good roguelike, but for now there is nothing much to it. Pixelated mode gradually reduces view, but enemies can see you well and shoot from another side of the map. Another mode is too colorless. Basic weapon is awful, you cannot even tell if you are hitting enemies sometimes or not. Not sure how I killed the bosses, been swarming around one for quite some time without any effect, next try shot several rockets and it exploded. Hard to tell what is killing you most of the time, some enemies hide behind corners and attack you with laser beams you cannot avoid, other times you find them inside narrow tunnels and get some unavoidable damage. Take on sale or wait for XXL version.

I recommend this game. Not because it's good, but cause I had a good time. The random level generator makes this absolutely worth playing. The music is slightly monotonous, the bosses are fairly easy and the game is not as fast pace as I expected. However, when you get into the groove of things, it's a good game to spend a bit of time with. I just wish there was more of it.
Pixelpunk XL is a “six degrees of freedom” shooter in the vein of Descent. The audiovisual aesthetic is of that era as well – you pilot through a very bare, industrial setting with lots of corridors. The atmospheric music is reminiscent of Metroid and the resolution is distinctively low. This is billed as a rogue-like but that seems a bit of a stretch so far. There is permadeath and the maps are procedurally generated but there there is little in the way of item discovery or complexity. This doesn’t keep Pixelpunk XL from being challenging of course – I lost a lot. And it was very rewarding to gain enough mastery of my ship to gently peek out of a narrow entryway only to immediately return to safety realizing I had just survived an ambush by 3 enemies. That’s where this game excels – it feels good to pilot your ship and learn how to carefully navigate your surroundings. It felt rare to leave a firefight with more resources than when I entered it, thus making every encounter precious. Despite these assets of Pixelpunk XL, I have to admit – it’s hard for me to separate what it is from what I want it to be. To its credit, I think that’s because it does enough well that it leaves me wanting more. I wished it leaned harder in one of two directions. It could either shed the rogue-like ambitions and give the game some careful and nuanced level design. Or it could otherwise incorporate discovery to make it feel like more of the adventure it strives to be. I suppose what I’m truly saying is that I enjoyed Pixelpunk XL just enough that I’m interested to see what developer, Mykhail Konokh, does with a larger scope. Video Review: https://youtu.be/bqjXORLoEmI Pixelpunk XL is pretty fun. I think the way the ship controls is great and I suggest a mouse/keyboard. The goal of the game is to defeat the bosses but they were pretty easy when I played (I think there was an update to this). The random levels are much more fun and interesting. The level generation is quite good and all the rooms are unique. The enemies that fill those levels are basic though and can even be hit from quite a distance. I really enjoyed playing the game but I want more. More enemies, more enemies, and more ships. Still, it's a budget title and I have to consider that it has a small scope. It is good for what it has.
Cheap and fun to play! Reminds me of Descent back on my first PC. Toxic mode > Pixelated mode
Schade
Remember 'Descent'? If you do you'll like this. It's short and sweet, but also cheap. Check it out.
For how visually unimpressive this game is, it some how runs like a lame horse.
Really enjoyable atmosphere and aesthetic. I loved exploring its gloomy, cavernous spaces most of all.
