It's fine if you're under 10, but it offers no real challenge and is only one step up from a walking simulator. Simple to complete in < 3 hrs. "Cozy" and "Wholesome" should not exclude gameplay.
Very qualified recommendation. I was under the impression that Pine Hearts was something of an A Short Hike-influenced, combat-free take on the Zelda series, but while there's no doubt a considerable ASH influence here, it's really much more of an isometric walking simulator. While you do acquire new abilities over the course of the game that allow you to reach previously inaccessible areas, these abilities function almost exclusively as keys that allow you to get past specific obstacles, with only a handful of actual puzzles, and with most of the gameplay consisting of various fetch quests. And while the Fisher-Price-esque art style has some charm to it, especially in the dialogue-free cutscenes, the tone too frequently comes off as more cloying than charming (most of the characters have alliterative names like "Kindly Katie" and "Gullible Graeme"). It's only a few hours long, the ending (while predictable) still manages to be surprisingly touching, and despite the limited gameplay, I enjoyed exploration enough to finish it; I'd still only recommend it on sale, though.
It's a lovely heartwarming & emotional cosy adventure of visiting biomes, learning skills, helping NPCs with quests, collecting droplets (thankfully you don't have to collect full 1503 for the achievements, I was missing the final 3 when I got 1500 droplets achievement), and the emotional story reminds me a lot of A Tiny Sticker Tale, although this one is much easier to get full platinum achievements compared to A Tiny Sticker Tale. I recommend this if you like: A cosy adventure game, collectathon game, short game (4-5 hours), enjoy doing quests for NPCs, and hunting for achievements.
Loved the game and its cute art style. Definitely would recommend this game as gifts or even for you to play if your in a game slump.
A sorta-cozy exploration game which borders on a metroidvania, what with locked off/inaccessible areas that can eventually be explored when you unlock certain abilities via story progression. The graphics are decent enough for this sort of game, the music is inoffensive, the dialogue is quite witty (love that Aussie sense of humour), and the gameplay is enjoyable enough without wearing out its welcome. Be forewarned, if you are a parent, especially a dad, the ending may get you right in the feels. The only downside is the need to dig up/collect water droplets......and there's zero way of knowing where the remaining ones might be (no sound cues, no map-markers, nada!), so you could find yourself combing a fairly wide area just to find that last few (not needed for game completion but for achievement hunters and/or those with OCD, be aware.....). All in all a relatively chill and fun to play game. Recommended.
8/10 Punkte
Pine Hearts, developed by Hyper Luminal Games Ltd and published by Secret Mode, delivers a unique and deeply immersive experience that stands out within the cozy adventure genre. At its core, the game invites players to accompany Tyke, a young hiker revisiting the Pine Hearts Caravan Park—a place filled with nostalgia and layered memories. This revisitation acts as a gateway to an emotional journey that blends exploration, puzzle-solving, and storytelling in a way that feels intimate and reflective rather than frantic or action-driven. The gameplay is centered around an open-ended exploration of the park’s various interconnected areas, each rich with environmental detail and distinctive atmospheres. As Tyke moves through serene forests, tranquil lakesides, and quiet trails, players collect items and solve puzzles that gradually unlock new sections and reveal fragments of Tyke’s past. This approach fosters a contemplative mood, encouraging players to slow down and absorb their surroundings, rather than pushing them towards fast-paced challenges. The puzzles are cleverly designed but never overly complex, supporting the game’s relaxing tone while still providing satisfying moments of discovery. Visually, Pine Hearts is a feast for the eyes, with its bright, low-poly aesthetic and isometric perspective creating a whimsical yet cozy environment. The art style evokes a sense of warmth and familiarity, bringing to life a world that feels both real and gently stylized. Every nook and cranny of the park is imbued with character, from the swaying trees to the animated wildlife, all of which combine to make the setting feel alive and inviting. The character design, especially Tyke himself, carries a quiet charm, expressed through subtle animations and interactions that deepen the player's connection to the story. Narratively, the game’s strength lies in its emotional resonance. Pine Hearts doesn’t rely on grandiose plot twists or heavy exposition; instead, it unfolds its story through small, poignant moments and memory fragments that speak to universal themes of loss, healing, and remembrance. The development team’s personal experiences are evident in the way the game handles grief with sensitivity and nuance, allowing players to explore the impact of absence and the power of memory in a thoughtful, understated way. This makes the journey deeply relatable and emotionally impactful without ever becoming overwhelming. Accessibility is another area where Pine Hearts excels. The developers have incorporated a broad suite of options to ensure that players with varying needs and preferences can fully engage with the game. Features such as customizable controls, color-blind modes, and high-contrast settings demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity, making it easier for a diverse audience to enjoy the experience. This thoughtful design extends the game’s appeal and reinforces its welcoming, gentle spirit. Reception from the player community has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising Pine Hearts for its soothing atmosphere, heartfelt storytelling, and gorgeous art direction. While some have noted that the game’s pacing can feel slow at times and the puzzles are on the simpler side, these elements align with the game’s intent to provide a calm and reflective experience rather than a high-intensity challenge. The developers have been responsive to player feedback, releasing updates that improve gameplay and add content, showing dedication to refining the game post-launch. Ultimately, Pine Hearts is a beautifully crafted exploration of memory and emotion wrapped in a cozy adventure framework. It encourages players to pause, reflect, and connect with themes of love and loss in a way that few games manage to do so gracefully. Hyper Luminal Games Ltd has delivered a memorable experience that combines engaging gameplay with a profound narrative, all set within a lovingly realized world. For anyone seeking a meaningful and tranquil journey through interactive storytelling, Pine Hearts offers a deeply rewarding escape. Rating: 9/10
Beautiful game that strikes a perfect balance between being challenging and relaxing. It’s not too difficult, but never too simple either. The cute little moments throughout really add charm, and I especially loved the puns in the conversations and the small puzzles. Overall, I enjoyed this game a lot and found it genuinely delightful to play.
