GrowRilla VR, developed and published by Salmi Games, is a quirky and immersive virtual reality experience that invites players into a vibrant, dynamic jungle world where the main goal is to grow and evolve as an oversized gorilla. From its engaging mechanics to its fun, colorful world, GrowRilla VR offers a refreshing take on VR simulation games. As the game’s title suggests, you take on the role of a mighty gorilla, tasked with exploring and interacting with the environment to grow in both size and strength. The game’s simple yet effective premise, combined with its unique VR mechanics, creates an experience that is both entertaining and engaging, making it an enjoyable VR experience for a wide range of players. The game’s core mechanic revolves around the physicality of growth. As you explore the jungle, you gather various resources, engage with your surroundings, and grow your gorilla to ever-larger sizes. This growth isn’t just about becoming a bigger, more powerful creature; it’s about tapping into the core of the game’s world and feeling your character evolve through physical actions. Using your VR controllers, you interact with the environment by picking up objects, throwing them, smashing through obstacles, and even fighting smaller enemies or creatures. The more you interact with the world, the bigger you get, which adds a unique layer of progression, providing both a physical and emotional connection to your in-game character’s evolution. One of the standout features of GrowRilla VR is how well it integrates physical movement into gameplay. The VR controls are intuitive and responsive, allowing for a fully immersive experience. Swinging your arms to break through trees, climbing up structures, or picking up and throwing objects all feel natural and satisfying. The feeling of growing in size while performing these actions enhances the sense of progression and makes you feel more connected to the environment. There’s an excellent balance between exploration and physicality—players are constantly moving and interacting with their surroundings, which keeps the game engaging. The visual design of GrowRilla VR plays a significant role in drawing players into its world. The vibrant, stylized jungle is beautifully realized in VR, with lush green environments, detailed flora and fauna, and a variety of dynamic landscapes. Each area you explore feels alive, with wildlife, weather effects, and a sense of openness that encourages you to explore every corner of the jungle. The use of color is striking, with bright tones and contrasts that evoke a sense of playfulness and energy. This is complemented by an atmospheric soundtrack that heightens the feeling of immersion. Whether you’re trekking through dense foliage, crossing rivers, or climbing tall trees, the visuals create a world that feels both magical and grounded in its own reality. Despite its immersive world and engaging gameplay, GrowRilla VR does have a few shortcomings that may affect the overall experience for some players. The main issue is the relatively limited variety of gameplay objectives. While growing and exploring are central to the experience, there can be times when the game feels somewhat repetitive, as the goals and actions largely revolve around resource collection and interaction with the environment. Though there are some minor quests and challenges to keep things interesting, the overall lack of significant gameplay variety might make the experience feel a bit one-dimensional, especially for those who are used to more complex or goal-oriented VR games. Another minor drawback is the absence of a more detailed storyline or deeper narrative context. While the concept of growing into a massive gorilla is fun, there’s not much in terms of backstory or character development to draw players further into the game’s world. The focus is squarely on physical interaction with the environment, and while this is fun in its own right, some players may wish for a bit more depth or story-driven elements to give the gameplay more context and direction. The game also offers a sense of freedom and creativity, but this freedom can feel somewhat aimless at times. Without clear objectives or deeper goals, players may find themselves wandering the jungle aimlessly. However, this can also be seen as a benefit for those who simply want to relax and enjoy the immersive environment. The lack of rigid goals may make GrowRilla VR more suited for casual play sessions rather than those looking for a more structured or challenging experience. In terms of performance, GrowRilla VR runs smoothly on most VR setups. The controls are fluid, and the game offers a comfortable play experience for both seasoned VR users and newcomers alike. There are a few options for adjusting movement sensitivity and comfort settings, which help alleviate any motion sickness concerns and ensure a comfortable VR experience. The game’s interface is user-friendly, with easy-to-navigate menus and clear instructions, making it accessible to a broad range of players, regardless of their familiarity with VR. Overall, GrowRilla VR delivers a fun, physically engaging, and visually striking experience that offers a fresh take on the VR genre. The joy of growing into a powerful gorilla while interacting with the environment and exploring the lush jungle world is undeniably appealing. The game’s charm lies in its simplicity, relying on physical interaction and exploration rather than complex mechanics or deep narrative. While it may not have the same depth as other VR games in terms of story or objectives, GrowRilla VR offers an enjoyable and immersive experience that can be highly satisfying, especially for those looking to unwind and engage in some light-hearted virtual escapism. With its intuitive controls, vibrant world, and unique gameplay mechanics, GrowRilla VR is a worthwhile addition for anyone looking to experience a more playful and interactive VR world. Rating: 8/10

good
You start as a little diddy gorilla, who eats things about the size of an apple, the more you eat, the more you level up in size until you are about as big as king kong. As you get bigger, you need to eat bigger things.. whole apple trees, pigs, farmers, cops, a tactical nuke.. You can grab tanks and throw them at people, you can grab trees and hurl them at people, you can even grab a cow and hurl it at people. Or you can just grab the people and eat them. Yum Yum! Some levels are as easy as "eat enough to grow to the next size", others are , "find the nuke and stop it blowing up the town", Or "find the army general and kill him by any means necessary" A fun game, some of the levels are quite tricky. Oh yeah the levels are different each time, slightly, while the general mission on that level will stay the same, the level itself is procedurally generated, so it will always be slightly different each time you play
MONKE
no one: Salmi Games devs: let's combine Gorilla Tag, Katamari and the obscure PS1 game Tail of the Sun.
