its growing...
this game and the dlc suck ass lmao 4/10
Subpar Picross
As an avid fan of Picross games for home consoles, I was happy to see a PC game made for Picross lovers. However, I was pretty disappointed by the result, especially compared to other games in the genre, such as the Picross E series. In Picross E, the picture you were drawing was.. a picture. It resembled something. After the puzzle was completed, it'd turn into a color pixel art then tell you the name of it. In Picross Love, every puzzle seems to have no meaning. It's just squares on a grid. It's bafflining considering the main appeal of Picross is the pictures . That's why it's called Picross . Now it's possible that the puzzles were drawing images and I simply didn't recognize any of them, but that still shows a fundamental design flaw with Picross Love. They also made some questionable changes to the Picross gameplay loop itself. In other Picross games, the challenge is usually for the player to be given a grid and to figure out everything entirely based on their own judgement. In this title, if any tile was marked incorrectly you get immediately penalized and the correct tile is shown. Now it's true some Picross games have this as an option, HOWEVER in Picross Love: [olist] [*]You can't disable this mode. [*]Marked out tiles punish you as well. Marked out tiles should only be my own personal reminder to not fill in a space. [/olist] What results is a game of carefully tiptoeing to not accidentally fill in a space or else lose one of your three limited health points. All of this could've been forgiven if it wasn't for the fact that the Picross puzzles themselves are stupidly easy. A large percentage of puzzles are only 5 by 5 grids. Every other puzzle is gasp a 10 by 10. 10 by 10s are where this game peaks in difficulty. Although, to be fair, doing a proper 15 by 15 or god forbid a 20 by 20 or more would be rather annoying with this game's "three slight miss-clicks and the puzzle resets" system. So despite being advertised a game with 48 puzzles, the game can be easily beaten in under a couple hours. Meanwhile, a single standard puzzle in a series like Picross E can take 30 to 40 minutes on it's own . Picross puzzles are supposed to be headscratchers that you stare at for a good while, not blitz through in under a minute. Only a couple of puzzles in Picross Love really took any thought to beat.
However, you get what you pay for.
Despite my long critical rant, overall I can't say I disliked the game. The game is only $2, and $2 for 2 hours of puzzles seems like a reasonable price. The music was nice, albeit repetitive and the game has a pretty nice looking interface. Now it's true that other Picross games are also on the cheaper side, but I'm not sure that's entirely fair. A company like Nintendo releasing a solid complete Picross game like Twilight Princess Picross for completely free of charge just for the sake of encouraging people to make a My Nintendo account is basically impossible to compete with on the "good value" scale. For the price, it's a tolerable (albeit brief) Picross experience. However, there's certainly better options out there. For a game called "Picross Love", I was hoping it would do a lot more to appeal to true Picross lovers like myself. As for why there's a lot of random artwork of women that appear to the right of the grid, I have no idea. They didn't seem related to the puzzles in any way, so I just ignored them. I have no clue as to why they're there. Maybe if the developers spent less time drawing unnecessary pictures of women, they could've focused more on creating more engaging Picross puzzles. That's all I'll say about that.
This game is fr*cking amazing. It´s like the greatest game ever dude. I love it so much man. It is kind of tough but you will learn how to play. I´m still not a pro but I´m good. Like really good. The good side of this game is the gameplay. The graphics are really old for a game in 2025. This soundtrack is banging, like I have headbanging reflex everytime I hear the melodies (haha, that!s the joke but it's really GOOD man...). Still recommend it. I would rate it 6/7 (the meme).
