If you liked Brotato's core gameplay but didn't like every run being completely random and largely disconnected from each other, then this game is pretty much for you. Just like in Brotato, you get to choose upgrades and level ups, but between runs, you can equip gear, and upgrade your character. It has maybe a smidge less character than the original Brotato, since the variety is largely in cosmetics for one guy, rather than 15 billion different individual potatoes, but that's a minor complaint,
Works flawlessly on my ROG Xbox Ally with SteamOS, so it should do the same on Steam Deck. Other than that it's just Pete. Pickle Pete. I'm a mobile veteran. Pickle Pete is the only game I've had on my phone for years. I've played it for hundreds of hours, without paying any money. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the demo on here some months back. I got so excited that this is probably the first time in years I buy a game on launch day. I see people calling Pickle Pete a Brotato-like and comparing it with Brotato a lot but did you know... ...that Pickle Pete predates Brotato? Pickle Pete was available on mobile at least a year before Brotato became a thing on any platform. So technically Brotato is a Pickle-like.

I think the major snag was that the company released a P2P/P2W survivor style "Pickle Pete" game in parallel. So the "how can I make meta progression frustrating enough that some whales will insert coins" though carried over into this one. And like all good P2W games, in this case the frustration curve also starts after the "I can refund" point of no return.
Was worth the Wait
It´s not a bad game and the artstyle is neat. But balance and economy could use a big overhaul. You can use a mutation to have a bigger chance on getting (i.e) mechanical weapons in the shop and still have to re-roll 5 times to get a second mech-weapon. You get one active ability and a dodge roll. The abilities just don´t seem very impactful and a lot of weapons have to be unlocked by simply not using your dodge roll. Thats just wasted potential. Using another character than the starter pickle pete is next to useless. You have to use a lot of the botteled currency (which instead is just better put into upgrade of your companions) to unlock them and in the end they are nowhere near to the numberless playstyles the characters in Brotato bring to the table. The game is cheap and you sure can get some hours out of it. It could have been a great Brotato-Like but I feel like the developers didn´t understand why Brotato does some things the way it does.
Pretty good, especially for price.
This game is great, well worth the full price, let alone the sale price. The soundtrack alone is worth the sale price. I have seen a few negative reviews and I have to disagree. I enjoy the collection aspect of this game. Getting gear over the runs, and combining them to upgrade them, trying to collect full sets, is very enjoyable for me. I also like that every level has 3 goals (though one is always beat the boss). Some have made comment about the progression making the prior levels pointless because once you have "leveled up" they are very easy. This has some validity too it, but the goals fix that for me. Some of the goals seem very hard to obtain without being over leveled, or at least leveled in a specific way, so they give reason to replay them. My partner says I'm am writing too much so i will end it here. Get this game, its well worth the price.
If you like Brotato, you will enjoy this game. I really like Brotato and this game.
