Recruit Phantoms, bind them to objects, combine them with Gadgets, and even merge them with Marona herself to unleash show-stopping abilities and sink the Shipwreck Fleet!

Marona is a young girl with the power to speak to Phantoms, the spirits of those who have passed on. Alongside her dear friend, the Phantom Ash, she sails the ocean world of Ivoire, providing aid to those in need.
But when a fleet of ghost ships attacks and separates them, it’s up to Marona and her new friend Apricot to assemble the legendary crew that defeated the ghost ships once before.

Phantom Brave: The Lost Hero is an unconventional Strategy RPG that features free movement on a gridless map. Summon your Phantom squad members during battle by “Confining” their souls to objects on the map.
What object you Confine them to is up to you, and each different object informs their stats. Phantoms can also “Confire” with special gadget items for slow-moving but hard-hitting attacks.
In addition, Marona can “Confriend” with Phantoms to transform her appearance and access special attacks!

Play It Your Way: Create a team of allies from over 50 unit types and send them into battle! How the fight unfolds is limited only by your imagination.

Phantom Possession: Take on tactical turn-based RPG battles using the Confine system, which allows Phantoms you've befriended to combine with and possess items to battle alongside you!

Light-hearted Adventure: Marona may be on a quest to save her dear friend Ash, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be fun and new friendships to be found along the way!

I really enjoy the game. The mechanics are fun. It has a lot of customization. The characters are lovable and each get so much screen time.
I feel like the Story is exactly what you'd expect from a Phantom Brave sequel, I definitely liked some mechanics more in the original, but I like some of the new stuff too. I think the fusion/Confriend mechanic was a clever way to keep Marona's place as a unit that has one really powerful aspect by being the only unit without a turn limit, but also make her power be largely from the phantoms she summons, that is a clever way to make the phantoms more important while not making Marona any less important. I do think the price is a bit high considering the massive bugs it had prior to this update. But with that bug supposedly fixed, I will now say I do actually enjoy this game, and think as a game it deserves a positive review. The corpse bouncing bug caused multiple issues, including frame-drops too, not just the potential softlock, and with that fixed, I say it's a good game, but shouldn't have cost as much as it did, especially with the content that should have been included being sold as paid DLC.
Absolutely loving it! I only started played the game after the bugs that plagued the initial release had been patched out, and haven't run into any of the bugs that initially helped earn this game a 'mixed' review. I'm about 7 hours in, fresh off a 56 hour play through of the OG Phantom Brave. The quality of life changes are straight up *excellent*, and make the map-to-map gameplay soooo much more addictive/fun/less frustrating compared to the first one (without having to 'break the game' as a prerequisite, lol). I'm finding the characters and their interactions to be charming, and very much in line with the vibes of the previous game. While I do sometimes miss elements of the beautiful pixel art from the original, I feel like the extra animation work they've been able to do with the new 3D models has made for a solid enough trade. And I'm just glad there's a modern NIS game with the unique 'sphere movement' combat style. If you could only play one game, you can start with this one for gameplay reasons. The first game is cool, but it has a heavy "the devs don't want you to win" feel to it, and that can be a struggle to make it through. You don't really need to know anything about the previous story past knowing Marona saved the day last time, and people recognize her for it now, even though she's in an unfamiliar region. The regular gameplay is oodles smoother.
Nice Good game
Reminds me of the original Phantom Brave and all the other nippon ichi tactical games. I love the INSANELY customizable army, as well as the near-infinite stats. Would recommend if that's your thing.
