This game seemed very interesting at first. It has that classic 90's feel to the game. Though, I feel like the bugs should have been worked out before released. The game crashed 5 times during the tutorial and so I ended up playing only skirmish. There is no volume change. I can't even hear myself talk or think. Since the tutorial was not working I had to guess what I was doing. There only 2 resources to mine??? The game was not challenging an it is more of a grind each wave with no real accomplishment. It does have steam achievements if you like those. Review at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGVxW3k6JP4
"Yes, Phalanx of Resistance may not be the most gorgeous of games; yes, it may also not be the most polished... but for the incredibly low price of less than $1, the game is definitely markedly better than many other $1, or even more than $1, games that I've played before." Featuring nostalgic 90s-style graphics and art, Phalanx of Resistance is a pretty nice mixture of several genres, namely RTS, tower defense and surprisingly, clicker (I've removed "idle" from the "idle clicker" genre... and you'll see why in a bit). It takes the base building aspect from typical RTS games where you'll build certain structures to unlock new features, which sometimes means new turrets in this game.
Watch me play!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NagRllV3VEk You'll also need to build power plants to expand the "blue zone" or the zone where you can build stuff and gather resources; and to power up certain abandoned structures on the map like the repair depot which will automatically repair any damaged buildings at a steady pace. P/S: If there's a repair depot on your map, you'll want to power it as soon as you can... it's truly a lifesaver! Another strategy is to upgrade your turrets when it has low health just so you can get a free repair. The tower defense works as you'd expect. Enemies will land near the edge of the map and make their way to your base. You can technically create paths using walls in this game, but I've found that default layout of the map is already well-designed for a good defense. You just need to make sure you cover your kill zones well for ground troops. For planes and paratroopers, you'd want to have lots of anti-air and anti-air+ground turrets near your base and important structures like collectors and power plants - that's why it's a good idea to cluster them together. The clicker aspect mainly involves gathering resources, namely wood, that you'll need to build anything in this game. Every click will earn you 1 resource item and most resource deposits will take several clicks to deplete. It's not just idle clicking though - you actually need to find and click on items that will give you the resource you need, namely vegetation and some stones. Also, I quite like the fact that since the game doesn't let you call a wave in earlier, you could use the downtime to just click around and collect stuff. P/S: There's an upgrade you can get to not click as many times if that helps. Note that resources do not regenerate in this game and that it's actually a good idea to clear away deposits near kill zones just so you can more strategically position your turrets. Sometimes, Exogas deposits would pop up temporarily and you can click on them to collect extra Exogas. You'll need these gases for more advanced structures and turrets in this game.
Pros
+ Game's fairly easy but it does throw you a curve ball now and then... like having airborne enemies in the first wave that makes a beeline for your base's HQ while most of your turrets are crowded around the kill zone at the entrance to your base or introducing paratroopers that will be dropped behind your kill zone. + This might be a negative for some, but I absolutely adore the 90s-style graphics. It's not particularly ugly - I've seen worse - but it's not really breathtaking either. It does, however, give the game a bit of an indie feel. + Has two game modes, Campaign (objective-based levels) and Skirmish (a.k.a. Endless) + Unique and unconventional RTS/TD gameplay that is surprisingly enjoyable! + A nice variety of turrets to use and enemies to destroy + Game's worth the cost!
Cons/Feedback
Before I start, I should mention that most of these are more feedback than cons since they are things that the dev could easily (I think?) work and improve on. - Start the game by showing the main menu. I was caught a bit off guard when the game just thrust me into the tutorial without any warning on first start-up. - Show turret's range during the building phase i.e. when I'm deciding where to place my turret - Accurately show the range of a turret. I've noticed that the yellow lines aren't accurate. - Clicking on the base to show the build-able zone (the blue zone) is rather tedious. Maybe make it a toggle on/off map feature instead? - Let us save our progress in Skirmish mode - Walls seem to be useless here? I've seen enemy vehicles just roll over my walls like they are flat. Optional - Allow the player to cancel a construction or to sell off a misplaced structure. Maybe the game is designed as it is to ramp up the challenge, but I think many a player would appreciate being able to sell off a turret. Of course, the resources returned would be greatly reduced and that if a turret is not at full health, the resources obtained would be further and proportionally reduced. - A level selection menu showing how many levels in total that's available for the campaign and letting a player replay levels when he/she wants to. - I think this is a bug but I managed to bring over a turret from my previous level in Campaign mode.
Overall
Yes, Phalanx of Resistance may not be the most gorgeous of games; yes, it may also not be the most polished... but for the incredibly low price of less than $1 (at the current 20% discount), the game is definitely markedly better than many other $1 or even more than $1 games that I've played before. As a game, it's pretty fun and manages to keep me entertained throughout. I also really liked how the dev tried to combine some elements of RTS, clicker, and tower defense and the result worked pretty well too. Definitely a game a hardcore fan of tower defense games who is eager to try a different sort of TD and who grew up with and loves 90s-style graphics would want to play. At this early stage, it is the best A$1.50 I've spent for quite a while. I normally don't like base building and clicker aspects in my Tower Defense games, but in this instance I can make a Papal Dispensation. Unit combination and timing is of an essence. Have not yet noticed bugs of any consequence.
its cheap so that makes it very good for the money but it gets boring quick. its basicly a TD with basebuilding. they need to add the more buildings and way to repair. I have a beast computer and by wave 50 or so i already had some major lag due to multiple towers attacking enemies
I thought, the game was malfunctioning. But after a restart it works fine. Might be helpful information for anyone trying it out like I did. The approach is nice, getting some resources from the trees, but it really plays slow and not really fun. Nah, not really... But, it just came out, so it might improve or it might not. But for now, I don't want to recommend this game. I am a campaign type of a guy, so I was expecting a story. Nope, no story. "Phalanx of Resistance" = nice title, but no story to strengthen it. Too bad... This game should be free to play in my opinion. But if you are a Tower Defense game fan/collector (like me) - you might wanna try it out, it's like 79 cents... But like I said, it should be free to play instead. The game however works and the maps are getting more difficult, if you want to waste some time and you have no idea what, this game might prove some difference. Minimum requirements... Ehm, it wasn't asking how much YOU have @Dev but how much you need to run this game and 16GB of RAM for this is a bit over the top don't you think? Might wanna chance that... I could run it just fine with my measy 8GB of RAM.
I got this game from a free key drawing but I have to say the snes era graphics and sound design fit well, the game is well priced at $0.99, and you will definitely get your money's worth. Would I do out of my way to buy this game, sure 75% chance I would, for tower defense fans I would say at least check it out, I mean a buck is not much, just know it feels kinda chill, like an easy tower defense game (least from what I played). Kudos to the developer, a nice simple, well designed game at a fair price. I have come across a DANGEROUS bug. If you do Skirmish the game will continue to eat ram, I noticed the game was getting slower and slower. Will test and confirm later. If it is a bug then I will be changing my review from recommend to not recommend. Yeah definitely eats RAM Starting Memory Use 494,812 15 Min 2,168,980
This game is very Okay, especially for 1$! Pros: -Nice retro Graphics -Many Booms and Groundshakes Cons: -I really would like to tap outside of the game to keep playing in the background as this game is very slow!!!
Phalanx of Resistance is a Unity based retro pixel isometric RTS game that looks an awful lot like some other Unity based retro pixel isometric RTS games I've had the misfortune of having to review. However, I couldn't find a matching asset in the store, so let's go ahead and assume this isn't a Unity asset flip. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Phalanx of Resistance is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. A special note: The developer insultingly demands that gamers must perform software testing for them, and attempts to influence reviewers by telling them not to report defects as part of a game review but advise the developer instead. Well, you're not the boss of me. Reviews are for gamers, to inform them about the quality of products, and gamers are not here to do software testing for free for developers who can't manage to do their own.
No enemies incoming, aprox. from level 5.
Spiel hängt sich ständig auf ( bei Windows 10 ), keine Einstellmöglichkeiten Sound usw. einfach Grottenschlecht. Spiel nicht einmal kostenlos zu empfehlen.
