I am in between recommending this game and not, and I am going to lean onto the not at this time. This game is very cute, the art style is great and the food creatures are adorable! The design of assets in this game is spectacular, something I do recommend playing to see. But when the game starts with your character losing their phone and credit card and saying they have to interact and ask people in the old style way of life but then almost nothing is interactable? That is a huge downside to me. That is the start of the game, what is brought to us as a core idea of the game! I am curious, I want to read the signs and posters. I want to know what the stores are. What kind of icecreams are in the truck? I was excited to explore a place that the character also wants to explore, the whole trip is to get photographs for someone they love! But you cant interact with most people, and you cannot interact with most of the world. There are notice boards everywhere that I would love to looks at but you can't interact with them. This seems super out of place in this style of game, this is how you can give more lore building! What is the poster of? Maybe have information about the buildings! There are beautiful fountains, what about ads that point them out for tourists? They are sitting there, ready to set up the world being, make it instead of just assets you are running around in you are exploring a place. But they are just assets. You can't interact with the food stalls until a quest is started, and then a lot of the food is foreign and I would love to be told about them, but you end up getting an image and eating and giving a very light review- the character you play as is a tourist, have them able to ask before the quest starts and not be able to buy because of their credit card. We dont know where out main character is from, they could be just as out of the loop as I am! The customizing isnt exactly the greatest, either. But the character is cute! Just not a lot of options. I enjoyed what little I saw of this world, and I am looking forward for what comes out from these artists next.
I've played it already a while back, or well, I've tried to play it, because back then I've experienced a game breaking bug which made it impossible to move on. I was around half way through the game. I've picked it up again and thought I'd give it another chance, but I'd honestly hate to see myself waste more time on this. I don't find it enjoyable at all. The story has been rather lame so far, even though I appreciate the sentiment, the world feels sort of empty, you can't do much besides doing the quests (and technically grind for two collectors achievements) - that's not enough for me. So yeah, I think it's rather boring and wouldn't recommend it - especially not for the full price. I got it for around half off and still feel like I paid too much for it. Edited because I forgot the word "not": It's certainly not enough for me, I'd expect more for the price.
A cute cat adventure game. It's well-translated into Korean, and it's fun to play because you can jump and there are mounts. If you only do the main quests and not the achievements, the playtime is really short. so the regular price seems steep, but if you get it on sale, it's worth it for the playtime. The achievements include catching all fish, catching all insects, and there's also a 100% completion requirement: catching all fish, catching all insects, and completing all main and subquests + buying all furniture and mounts. Keeping one fish in your inventory is required for catching and fishing, so once you've achieved the goal, sell it to buy furniture.
This was fun. It wasn't really what I thought it was. It seems like an adventure for a child.
[Review after completing 100% of current content] This is a game about rethreading a dementia-bitten coat. A child facing off against a disease whose weight is indescribable and incompressible, holding such a loving and innocent view; redeeming faith through friends and discovering herself in a journey of beautiful repetition. On the island, while their bodies attest to the passage of time, the memories and desire to be present, even toward the shifting ghost of a person left, made me weep. A beautiful message that even if it comes apart again, the action is what matters. The divine meaning of trying. Controlling like a typical platformer, with the side activities you'd come to expect from games of this ilk-fishing, bug catching, furniture for a hideout-all blending together into a quaint adventure. While its habit of pushing fetch quests felt a little redundant, the honeyed dialogue and painterly style sing its personality. How quickly you can go from rolling your eyes at the object hunt to wishing you could stay just another moment in this space. Whilst you can customise Lily's look and fit, overall it's more a simple visual experience than an interactive one. You'll be taking pictures as a passionate hobby, immersing yourself in the island through the view of its hot bulbous eye. I only wish there were more small details to sink your teeth into, with many signs and NPCs going sadly unloved. While a minor nit-pick, I also wish mounts other than the Banallama could jump, since it sadly makes them feel redundant in comparison! For a meaningful journey, I'd recommend picking this up on deal if you find yourself wanting an evening to escape.
Cute but not very interactive and UI is kind of annoying. I barely made it past the tutorial before getting bored and frustrated enough with the first task to give up.
Petit Island

7-9+ hours to complete, Petit Island is a casual exploration adventure game about a cat named Lily visiting the Island her Grandpaw grew up at, in an attempt to restore his old journal and help him recover his missing memories. Find and take photos with Grandpaws old friends, talk about the adventures they went on together, fish, collect bugs, then return home with a completed journal to help your Grandpaw remember the things he’s forgotten in his old age. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758734601 Overall, Petit Island is a really cute game with a good storyline. The island is small but there are lots of neat things to find, a variety of fish and bugs to catch, scenic locations to explore and secrets to find. There were a couple minor irritants, such as being unable to wear a hat and hold an item at the same time, as well as a finicky gliding system I never was able to figure out, but it didn’t impact the overall experience that much. I particularly liked the Volcano Island as there are some fun secrets on it, but I’ll leave those for you to find. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758734900
If you liked this review and want to read about similar games or just support me on my journey of playing my entire Steam backlog, you can join my curator group, Rune's Reviews! Have a nice day! Petit Island, developed by Xelo Games and published by SOEDESCO, is a wholesome and serene adventure that invites players into a pastel-hued world of discovery, memory, and reflection. It tells the story of Lily, a young feline adventurer who journeys to her grandfather’s island to relive his youthful memories and document the places and faces that once defined his life. The game is a gentle blend of exploration and lighthearted interaction, designed to capture the warmth of nostalgia rather than the thrill of challenge. From the moment you set foot on the island, it’s clear that Petit Island wants to soothe rather than excite, offering a peaceful retreat wrapped in soft colors, relaxing music, and an undercurrent of emotional storytelling. The world of Petit Island is immediately inviting. Its visual presentation is bright and colorful, painted in warm tones that make the island feel like a sunlit dreamscape. Villages, beaches, forests, and mountains flow naturally into one another, creating a sense of organic discovery. Each area feels handcrafted, with cozy cottages, fishing docks, and scattered relics of the past adding texture to the experience. The anthropomorphic characters who inhabit the island are equally charming, with cheerful designs and simple animations that fit the game’s cozy atmosphere. While the visuals are not technically complex, the art direction compensates by creating a comforting sense of place. Accompanied by a tranquil, melodic soundtrack and ambient nature sounds, the game establishes a rhythm that encourages relaxation and quiet contemplation. Gameplay in Petit Island revolves around exploration and gentle interaction. Players can freely roam the island, taking photographs, catching bugs, fishing, and digging for hidden items that tie into Lily’s quest to preserve her grandfather’s memories. These activities are never rushed or difficult; instead, they function as meditative rituals that let you absorb the world at your own pace. Conversations with the island’s inhabitants reveal fragments of story and personality, though they remain surface-level rather than deeply developed. There are also light progression elements, such as unlocking new areas or completing small tasks for villagers, but these are kept deliberately simple. The result is a game that values presence over pressure, aiming to immerse players in a soothing loop of exploration rather than test their reflexes or problem-solving skills. The heart of Petit Island lies in its emotional core—the bond between Lily and her grandfather. The story unfolds through journal entries, dialogue, and the objects you find scattered around the island. Each discovery carries with it a touch of nostalgia, hinting at the passage of time and the bittersweet nature of memory. It’s a theme that resonates in subtle ways: old photographs, familiar landmarks, and faded friendships reflect the universal desire to preserve the past while still moving forward. The narrative isn’t overly complex, but its sincerity gives it heart. It’s easy to see the game as a metaphor for reflection and familial love—a small, quiet story told through the act of wandering and remembering. Despite its charm, Petit Island’s simplicity can also be its biggest limitation. The gameplay mechanics, while relaxing, lack depth and variety. Fishing, bug-catching, and item collection offer little challenge, and after a few hours, the activities begin to feel repetitive. Some features, such as home customization or certain collectibles, appear underdeveloped or lightly implemented, leaving the impression that the game’s scope was scaled back during development. Navigation can also become tedious, as the island’s layout often requires long walks back and forth without a fast-travel option early on. These design choices, though consistent with the game’s leisurely tone, can test the patience of players looking for more dynamic progression. Petit Island is clearly meant for those who find joy in slow pacing rather than momentum. Where the game shines most consistently is in its atmosphere. Even when its mechanics start to feel repetitive, the mood remains engaging. There’s an undeniable charm in simply wandering the island at sunset, listening to the waves lap at the shore, and capturing the world through Lily’s camera. It evokes the same peaceful escapism found in titles like A Short Hike or Alba: A Wildlife Adventure, yet with its own flavor of gentle Southeast Asian-inspired coastal charm. The developers’ focus on mood and mindfulness ensures that even when little happens mechanically, players still find moments of quiet satisfaction. The inclusion of animal characters and the emphasis on kindness and empathy make it a perfect fit for those seeking a family-friendly or meditative experience. Petit Island is ultimately a love letter to slow living and personal reflection. It does not aim to surprise or challenge its audience, but to comfort them. Its world feels alive in the way a fond memory does—warm, familiar, and slightly imperfect. For those who appreciate games that allow space to breathe and wander, it offers exactly that: an island of calm amid the noise of modern gaming. It may not satisfy players looking for complex mechanics or narrative twists, but it succeeds wholeheartedly as a relaxing journey through nostalgia and nature. Petit Island is a gentle reminder that sometimes, the greatest adventures are the quiet ones spent in the company of memories, sunlight, and the distant hum of the sea. Rating: 8/10
