Don't get me wrong-- this game is adorable. The concept of the game is amazing. The artwork is great. However, I wish the gameplay was executed better. Some levels are extremely challenging that it becomes un-enjoyable to play. Pompom's jump mechanics overshoot placements sometimes that placing the objects become more unpredictable. Not to mention, the vertical mechanic is nearly impossible to navigate and isn't very straightforward. I've played plenty of difficult games and platformers and this is way too hard even with "assist mode" on. I think this should have been tested a lot more with testers before release as the game does seem a little unpolished. I don't see myself every planning to finish the game.
I actually quite like this game! But I don't recommend buying the Steam release, because it's missing content that's only available in the Switch version. If you don't own a Switch, then sure grab this version! But if you do, get the Switch version, or you'll be kind of disappointed the way I am right now As for the game itself: Overall quite fun, constantly adds new gimmicks and makes the absolute most out of its core concept, but it's sometimes way *way* too hard for its own good. What seems to happen is that each world has its own, *very* steep difficulty curve, such that the final level or two (like, before the boss level, those are almost always pretty easy) abruptly jumps in difficulty. When this game balances on the razor's edge of challenge and flow, it's an absolute blast, but this gets offset by the levels where coin and enemy placements appear to expect you to be psychic, made worse with mechanics that are not 100% reliable (spitting fish my beloathed). But its commitment to its aesthetic is incredibly convincing, the music and visuals have great energy, and there's a lot of polish put into the game's feel - so overall I've come away from it feeling positively.

Before Pompom, I knew not the value nor allure of the humble coin. Yet long before completing Pompom's marvelous adventure through a great variety of levels with new and novel mechanics aplenty, I knew deep in my being that I simply, desperately *must* collect all the coins. Yes, of course, I savored every level -- loved the swinging platforms and rope bridges, enjoyed most of the bosses, reached that sublime sense of mastery when for an occasional moment I knew precisely the trajectory of each jump -- but much as Pompom could not help but continue marching forward, I could not help but hurl him to the abyss to reach every last coin. The great music and nostalgic vibes were good company as I replayed each level over and over (though minor yikes for the "temple" level), reaching out for the delectable giant carrot, reveling in my haul with each 100% stamped upon my screen. More than a mere coin, Pompom is a true diamond in the rough. It's an absolute steal at sale price and still a bargain besides. I can't wait to figure out how to speedrun this autoscroller.
Pompom is a charming and inventive puzzle-platformer that immediately sets itself apart by asking the player to rethink what it means to “control” a character. Developed by TOMO CAMP and published by PID Games alongside Dear Villagers, the game stars a small but determined hamster on a spacefaring rescue mission. Rather than directly guiding Pompom’s movements, the player acts as an unseen helper who manipulates the environment itself, shaping safe paths and solving spatial challenges so that the hero can continue forward on his own. This single design decision defines the entire experience and gives the game a distinctive identity within the crowded platformer genre. The story is lighthearted but effective, framing the adventure with emotional clarity and playful energy. After a mysterious cosmic event, Pompom’s human companion is kidnapped by a gang of cartoonishly villainous space pirates led by Captain Cat. What follows is a journey across strange planets and hazardous landscapes, driven by Pompom’s unwavering determination. The narrative never overstays its welcome, but it provides just enough motivation to contextualize the escalating challenges and give each new world a sense of purpose. Pompom himself is full of personality, and his expressive animations help sell both his bravery and his vulnerability as he charges ahead regardless of danger. Gameplay revolves around placing and activating tools to guide Pompom safely to the goal. Each level provides a limited set of objects—such as platforms, springs, cannons, umbrellas, or ropes—that must be positioned thoughtfully to counteract hazards, enemies, and terrain obstacles. Because Pompom moves automatically once a level begins, players must anticipate his behavior and react quickly when things go wrong. This creates a constant tension between planning and improvisation, especially in later stages where timing becomes critical and mistakes can send Pompom straight into danger. The puzzle design steadily grows more complex, layering mechanics in a way that feels challenging but rarely unfair. Level variety is one of the game’s strongest aspects. Each world introduces new environmental themes and gameplay twists that prevent the experience from becoming repetitive. Some stages emphasize precision timing, while others focus on spatial reasoning or managing multiple moving elements at once. The game does an excellent job of teaching through experimentation, allowing players to fail safely and understand mechanics intuitively rather than through lengthy explanations. Optional challenges and collectibles add extra depth for players who want to fully master each stage, offering replay value beyond simple completion. Visually, Pompom embraces a colorful pixel-art style inspired by classic 16-bit games, but it avoids feeling derivative by pairing that nostalgia with modern animation polish and expressive character design. Environments are bright, readable, and full of small details that reinforce the playful tone. Clear visual language ensures that hazards, interactive elements, and safe surfaces are easy to identify at a glance—an essential quality in a game where quick decisions matter. The soundtrack complements this aesthetic perfectly, delivering upbeat and adventurous tracks that enhance the sense of momentum and discovery without overwhelming the action. The indirect control scheme is both the game’s greatest strength and its biggest potential source of frustration. Watching Pompom march forward while you scramble to adjust the environment can feel stressful, especially during more demanding sequences. However, this tension is intentional and central to the experience. Success feels especially satisfying because it comes from understanding systems and anticipating outcomes rather than executing precise inputs. Players who enjoy puzzle-driven design and unconventional mechanics will likely find this approach refreshing, while those who prefer direct control may need time to adjust. Overall, Pompom is a thoughtfully crafted and highly distinctive indie title that succeeds by committing fully to its core idea. Its combination of creative puzzle design, nostalgic presentation, and endearing protagonist results in an experience that feels both playful and smart. While it can be demanding at times, the challenge is balanced by clever level design and a constant sense of forward momentum. For players looking for a platformer that does something genuinely different while still honoring the genre’s roots, Pompom delivers a memorable and rewarding adventure. Rating: 8/10
good hampter game
A nice cute aesthetic and a good simple gameplay loop makes this a good little game to play for some good fun.
que jogo liiiiiiiindoooooooooo, eu recomendo muiiiitooo
