Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.86/day in the week to Aug 17 → 0.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About

A phone call from a small, out of state police force was the last thing writer Penelope Pendrick was expecting that morning. But, it wasn't long after that she was boarding a flight to the quaint old town of Carlisle, Connecticut. When debriefed, Penelope learns her job is to join the search for three missing people; an older man who owns a local bookstore, a mysterious woman who keeps to herself, and a troublemaking teenage boy – the only common link between them being that they disappeared from the same town, within the same week. The Sergeant is stumped.
Once she begins to unravel the case, Penelope realizes that there’s something deeper – stranger – going on here. Unusual ties form between four deceptive suspects, each with something to gain and each with something to lose. Motives and suspicions weave in and out as Penelope uses her wits and penchant for rule-breaking to search for answers; some of which died with an eccentric and mysterious local artist fifty years ago. As the danger escalates, a timer begins to tick down on the lives of the missing. All that Penelope knows for sure is that there’s more to the town of Carlisle than it would appear, and that one wrong move could make this first case her last.

Absolutely phenomenal game, so well executed on every level. Would highly recommend! I can't be the only one who sought this title out after feeling let down by a certain other series - this 1000% scratched that itch and then some. From the moment I loaded it up the first time, right up until finishing the endgame sequence, this game made me so emotional because it TRULY feels like "what we could have had" from ND (there were definitely times i forgot what i was playing until someone called me penelope lol). Absolutely can't wait to see what's next from this dev, I truly think they knocked it out of the park with this one.
Before diving into its central mystery, Penelope Pendrick and the Art of Deceit establishes itself as a thoughtful detective adventure that values patience, observation, and careful reasoning over fast-paced action. Developed and published by Default Cube Games, the story introduces Penelope Pendrick, an aspiring mystery writer who unexpectedly finds herself investigating a series of disappearances in the seemingly peaceful town of Carlisle, Connecticut. What initially appears to be a straightforward missing persons case gradually transforms into an intricate investigation involving hidden motives, old secrets, and the lingering influence of a mysterious artist whose legacy continues to shape the present. The narrative unfolds at a deliberate pace, rewarding players who pay close attention to dialogue and environmental details. The game's strongest asset is its storytelling, which blends classic detective fiction with interactive decision-making. Every suspect has their own personality, motivations, and secrets, making interviews feel meaningful rather than repetitive. Conversations are more than simple exchanges of information, as players can choose different dialogue options that influence relationships and the direction of the investigation. Rather than presenting obvious solutions, the story encourages players to connect scattered clues and form their own conclusions. The mystery steadily grows more complex as additional evidence surfaces, maintaining suspense throughout the campaign while keeping the focus on believable human conflicts instead of relying on exaggerated twists. Exploration plays an equally important role in the experience. Presented through a traditional first-person point-and-click perspective, players investigate numerous locations throughout Carlisle, carefully searching every room for evidence. Objects can be inspected in detail using Penelope's magnifying glass, while inventory items often contain subtle hints that become important later in the investigation. Puzzle design remains closely connected to the story, requiring logical thinking instead of random experimentation. Whether deciphering clues, unlocking hidden mechanisms, or piecing together fragmented information, each challenge feels like a natural extension of detective work rather than an isolated gameplay obstacle. A standout feature is the game's dynamic scheduling system. Non-playable characters follow daily routines, meaning players must choose the right moments to visit locations or gather evidence without attracting unwanted attention. This adds a welcome layer of strategy, especially when sneaking into restricted areas while suspects are away. The inclusion of investigative notes, objective tracking, and even a functional landline telephone helps reinforce the feeling of managing a real investigation. Small touches such as calling contacts for information or ordering food contribute personality to the world while preventing the experience from becoming overly serious. Presentation effectively supports the game's atmosphere despite its modest production scale. The environments are detailed enough to encourage exploration, and each setting contributes to the mystery through carefully placed visual storytelling. Fully voiced dialogue gives the cast distinct personalities, helping conversations feel more immersive and emotionally engaging. Background music subtly shifts between quiet exploration and moments of tension, complementing the investigation without overwhelming it. Accessibility options, including subtitles and multiple difficulty settings, also make the experience approachable for both newcomers and longtime fans of point-and-click adventures. The deliberate pacing may not appeal to every player, particularly those looking for constant action or frequent hints. Progress often depends on revisiting locations, thoroughly examining evidence, and carefully considering previous discoveries before moving forward. Likewise, the node-based movement system reflects the genre's traditional roots and may feel somewhat old-fashioned compared to fully explorable modern adventure games. However, these design choices remain consistent with the game's emphasis on thoughtful investigation and methodical problem-solving. Overall, Penelope Pendrick and the Art of Deceit delivers an engaging detective adventure that successfully captures the satisfaction of solving a carefully constructed mystery. Its compelling narrative, memorable cast, intelligently designed puzzles, and emphasis on player deduction create an experience that feels rewarding from beginning to end. While it demands patience and close attention, those willing to immerse themselves in its investigation will discover a richly crafted mystery filled with intriguing characters, meaningful choices, and satisfying revelations. Fans of classic detective adventures and narrative-driven puzzle games should find plenty to appreciate in this confident debut from Default Cube Games. Rating: 9/10

THIS is the game i've been waiting for since sea of darkness! Just like the old nancy drew games and in a lot of ways even better! the game had great characters, scenes, pacing, dialogue, design, humor, and puzzles. I wish there was a new one every month. id pay anything! Please work on your marketing/seo as i had to find out about this game in a TikTok comment after actively searching for nancy drew-like games for hours. cant wait for tomb of glass
It’s a great game that scratches the Nancy Drew itch but I will say it crashed several times on the steam machine so there are definitely bugs. In terms of story length it’s super value for money and keeps twists right until the end. I can’t wait to see how the series develops as they get into their stride
This game is honestly one of the best I've played; I would argue is surpasses that of the Nancy Drew franchise in writing, characters, and puzzles. The puzzles are logical and make sense for the investigation. The story is REALLY interesting, personal, and draws you in. I think the writing and dialogue are my favorites. It feels like a mystery novel. It is atmospheric, lots of things to look at. I personally loved all the Classic Lit references and the fact that you could read excerpts; I would love a game that focuses entirely on classic literature. The bookstore was amazing. I spent the entire time 100% certain of the villain and then got to the end and was completely wrong. Oops. I absolutely loved everything about this game. It's wonderful graphically, the soundtrack is fantastic, acting is wonderful. I do love the chores in ND (especially White Wolf) and having a game where you do chores would be fun. Ugh, imagine working as a librarian while solving a mystery and needing to sort books. ALSO I love that Penelope is a writer turned sleuth. It just makes sense. This game felt like it was made just for me, it was such a good experience.
As someone who played Nancy Drew growing up, this is the game I have been desperately missing. I love the UI, the graphics, the puzzles. I can see myself playing this time and again. 10/10 Finished the game and can confirm it is even better than I could have hoped. I enjoyed the spooks, the pacing, the voice acting, the graphics. The only thing missing is a little awards page at the end. There were clear dialogue options that would impact the story, so I think it would have been an interesting touch to include awards around those, the puzzle time, talking to people, ordering tons of pizza... etc. etc. Overall love the game, will play any and all games made by this dev.
This game is perfect for those looking to recreate the Nancy Drew nostalgia. It is very reminiscent of the older games, and I found that the puzzles weren't necessarily easy to complete, but easy to follow and made sense for the storyline. I truly hope they continue to put out similar games as this has become one of my favorites.
The writing of this game is incredible and is like reading a very well written and thought out book. You can tell the dedication Julia had when putting this game together and how much work and thought was put in. Gameplay is fun and very similar to the Nancy Drew games, which brought great nostalgia. I can't wait to see what the future holds with Default Cube.
after watching halfmoonjoe play this game on release, i was amazed at the quality of story, graphics, voice acting, puzzles, all of it. i finally played it through myself and i cannot recommend it enough. the love poured into this game is so obvious. as a lifelong nancy fan, this gives me that same feeling as those games do while also solidly being it's own thing! i love penelope, i love how you can choose options to shape her personality to your liking. i will definitely be replaying this in the future on the harder mode and i eagerly await the sequel!! <3
Absolutely LOVE this. As a long long LONGTIME Nancy Drew fan, I latched onto this the moment I saw it. I genuinely hope the team will continue making these, they're filling a large gap the ND games left. Congrats to everyone involved on a STELLAR game, I'll be keeping an eye out for future releases.
