Development for the sequel called 'Remembrance' began summer 2024, estimated release Q4 2025 (but subject to change).
Reality as we know it may be collapsing in on itself, because of one single human woman. The mysterious Guardians of Reality must investigate this matter urgently, determine the root cause, and either find a solution or destroy this segment of reality before things spiral out of control and the entire universe is destroyed!
But that's neither here nor there. This is a game about alternate universes and the alternative realities therein.
You play the main character of multiple versions (aka Routes) of multiple clusters of reality (aka Worlds, like Obsession!). The characters around you will always be the same people, but the worlds will vary wildly.
But... what does any of this have to do with you destroying reality?!
You're a troubled, miserable, college student trying to live life on her own for the first time. You have two great friends, though they each have their flaws, and a brother, who you'd........... rather not talk about. Don't even ask about Mom & Dad. It's not pretty.
One day, a handsome stranger enters your life, and he doesn't want to leave. He likes you. He wants you. He needs you. He writes bad poetry about you. He is your soulmate. Your fate. Whether you like it or not. ... Do you like it... or not?
(DLC) Sebastian has a twin brother, who's lives a non-traditional hedonistic lifestyle. He cares about his brother a lot, and his brother wants you.
Julian is your co-worker. He's an asshole and a jerk, yet... on rare occasions, can also be very kind, respectful, and affection. He has a strange yet beautiful dragon tattoo that holds some special meaning to him. It's no secret that he likes you, but... he's hiding something. Something big.
Brandon is an external content patch. See the forums after release for more details.
You grew up with your brother in a house full of crime, pain, and trauma. Brandon was the only one who saw you, loved you, and protected you. Your parents kept you isolated, abusing and neglecting you while praising and supporting him... and while grooming him to takeover the mafia family and training him to be a skilled murderer, businessman, and assassin.
The more they tried to separate you, the closer you grew. You needed each other. Is it any wonder that the trauma brought you closer together in unhealthy ways?
Your best friend and roommate. He's gender-fluid, bisexual, carefree, happy, trustworthy, kind, loving, and a party animal. But... there's a lot of pain behind those eyes.
This is the first game of a hobbyist writer/programmer. The artists who helped develop this game are freelancers of various skillsets, some being amateurs and some being professionals. This game was a personal passion project, not something from an official indie studio. Perfection was never the goal.
AI was not used in any way during development of this game. All writing, sprites, and CGs were created by people and they are listed on the credits screen. Stock assets (or vector art from stock asset websites) were used for some background images.

I knew what the game was, going in, so the violence didn't shock me. It got old, though, having the same ending (basically), every route. I thought I'd follow the walk-through paths given, and see if I could actually get to the more interesting underlying story that I knew had to be there (due to hints given in the story lines). I tried; I did. I gave up, and didn't play the game for a few months. Tried today to go back and try to complete some additional endings; none of the text would Skip. I would follow a path and appear to complete an ending, but then it would not register in the story Menu as Completed. Ugh. I was curious about the real story underneath it all, but not enough to deal with the seemingly endless drudgery. Those who are more dedicated than me, will definitely get more out of it than I did. I got the feeling there was a deeper story to be experienced, but I simply didn't have the patience to get to it. Your mileage may vary.
My feelings about this game are a bit mixed. Let’s start with the positives: The sheer amount of text is impressive, and the writing itself is consistently engaging — never dull or repetitive. That said, a lot of the plot twists felt predictable. I kept thinking, “Wait, I’ve seen this trope before.” Maybe I’ve just read too many yandere or alternate reality stories, which made the “surprises” predictable rather than impactful. The additional content, particularly the “What If” scenarios, was a standout feature — I liked some even more than the main story. The character sprites are also charming, with a pleasant, visually appealing design. However, there are notable drawbacks: 1. Music: While I usually either ignore or enjoy game soundtracks, this one actively disappointed me. It felt unpolished and generic, lacking the quality I’d expect from a paid title. 2. CG Artwork: The inconsistency here was jarring. Lavendel’s CGs are stunning — detailed and beautifully rendered — but only eight are included. Most are by Zuttecita, whose work suffers from awkward proportions and an unnatural, glossy texture. Quinn’s CGs were particularly underwhelming. I wish there were more CGs by Lavendel with him and that baby face of his <3. Torapudin’s art felt rushed too, like rough sketches that didn’t match the descriptions. The Alexander DLC’s shift to new artists was a relief and didn't disappoint. 3. Backgrounds: The art style fluctuated between realistic and cartoonish, breaking immersion. Some assets were used for different locations, but the bigger issue was the disconnect between descriptions and visuals. For example, “barred windows” appeared normal, and “cluttered shelves” looked empty. These inconsistencies made me suspect AI-generated art — they felt bland and lifeless. Despite these flaws, I still really liked the game. The story itself is addictive, and you can tell Arewar put so much love into the world. Every character feels real, with their own fleshed-out backstory. That said, the price tag feels steep for what you get. The music, CGs, and backgrounds make it feel kind of unfinished — more “early draft” than “high quality product”. I’m hopeful future DLCs will refine these aspects, and I’ll eagerly wait for the release of Remembrance.
This is definitely one of the best games I've ever played. Waiting for the next game from this publisher.
i like my man creepy 10/10👍 pdt: the sexy songs for some sexy moments are not sexy at all
That was an emotional roller coaster! Definitely one of the darkest games of this genre. I loved the writing and the story even if it felt really desperate) Some CGs and backgrounds could be better(I don't have anything against AI and free backgrounds, but in this case their style sometimes didn't feel fitting) but despite this I was thoroughly enjoying the story and all the crazy paths. Few games make me as curious and addicted as this, and Particles of reality is one of them. Alexander's and Sebastian's routes were my favorite) And I can't wait for the sequel. I need some happy endings with the guys! It was a breath of fresh air and I hope the developer continues making games like this)
Gloriously f'ed up and I loved it, there is a special circle of hell for me and my fellow gaming deviants. Those trigger warnings are real though, If you're worried it might be a bit much for you, then it probably will be. This is not a cup of tea for everyone, but if you too have no issues about messed up content, or even enjoy darker and morally questionable themes then then you may just enjoy this too. Played with the Brandon patch.
There are very few visual novels on Steam that are targeted toward women and actually contain spice. Particles of Reality is thankfully one of those visual novels, BUT it also has an intriguing story and tons of dramaaaaa. The story is definitely on the darker side so heed the trigger warnings but if you're a fan of horror/thrillers or dark romance books you'll probably feel at home here. I'm excited to play the next one when it comes out in 2026 and find out more about the plot twists and lore of this universe!
I have finished all routes and achievements for this game. I really liked the dark premise and the start of the game is very fun. Once you are deeper in the story, I found it a bit lackluster though. All endings are bad, but they are not that interesting. You might die or your lover might die or you might end up entrapped. But from a game with many bad endings I would have liked to see more different, unique and surprising endings. It seemed all too similar, you were just waiting to get shot at the end. The R18 scenes looked a bit awkward in some routes, e.g. anatomically a bit off. Overall, I would recommend it only if you like dark games and have played very few of those or if you really play only for the art and the love interests.
Best game ever ^-^ Hope it will be continued!
Can't wait for the sequel!
