About
IMPORTANT: "Parallel Experiment" is a 2-player cooperative puzzle game with escape room-like elements. Each player must have their own copy on either mobile, tablet, PC or Mac (cross-platform play is supported).
In the game players take on the roles of two detectives who are often separated, each with different clues, and must work together to solve puzzles. Internet connection and voice communication are essential. Need a Player Two? Join our community on Discord! Find the link on the side of our Steam page.
Parallel Experiment is a noir-inspired adventure with a comic book art style, featuring detectives Ally and Old Dog. While following the trail of the dangerous Cryptic Killer, they suddenly become his targets and are now unwilling participants in his twisted experiment.
This is the second standalone chapter in the “Cryptic Killer” cooperative point-and-click puzzle game series. You can play Unboxing the Cryptic Killer first, if you want to learn more about our detectives and their nemesis, but Parallel Experiment can be enjoyed without prior knowledge.
In Parallel Experiment, players must rely on their communication skills as they’re separated and must each discover unique clues that are vital for solving puzzles on the other end. Teamwork is essential to crack the Cryptic Killer’s codes.
There are over 80 puzzles striking the perfect balance between challenging yet fair. But you're not facing them on your own! Communicate with your partner on how to best proceed, solve a puzzle on your end that unlocks the next step for them and discover a wide variety of puzzles from redirecting water flows, finding computer passwords and unlocking intricate locks, to deciphering cryptic ciphers, soldering electronic components, and even waking up a drunk!
Looking for a break from the main investigation? Dive into a variety of retro-inspired mini-games designed with a fresh cooperative twist. Challenge each other to darts, Three in a Row, Match Three, Claw Machine, Push and Pull, and more. Think you know these classics? We’ve reinvented them for a whole new co-op experience
Uncover vital clues through collaborative conversations. NPCs respond dynamically to each player, offering new layers of interaction that only teamwork can unravel. Some conversations are puzzles in themselves that you need to solve together!
Our love for comic books shines in Parallel Experiment. Every cutscene is presented as a beautifully crafted comic book page, immersing you in a gripping, noir-inspired narrative.
How many pages did we create to tell the story? Almost 100 pages! Even we were surprised by how much it took, but every panel was worth it to deliver a story that keeps you on edge until the very last frame.
Every detective needs a notebook. In Parallel Experiment, players can jot down notes, sketch solutions, and interact with the environment in creative ways. But we all know what you're going to draw first…
This is a key feature? Yes. Yes, it is.
Each level will have some way for players to annoy their co-op partner: knock on a window to distract them, poke them, make their screens shake. You already know you'll be doing this just by reading it, right?
Parallel Experiment has a variety of mind-twisting challenges that push the boundaries of cooperative puzzle design, offering situations never seen before in other games.

TLDR: The best in the series so far, and a fun little escape room type puzzle game to play with a friend. General Thoughts/Overview: Parallel Experiment (PE) is the third instalment of the cryptic killer saga, a two player semi noir inspired coop detective puzzle series. It is also the longest and probably the best so far. Do you like being frustrated as you cry helplessly into your microphone while your partner in crime (or in this case law and order) bumbles around looking at everything and helplessly misses the one thing you need to progress? Are you the partner helplessly looking? ME TOO! Well good news! PE is for you and your long suffering [strike]victim[/strike] friend. We are Ally or OldDog, and we’re back once again to hunt down those pesky killers. This time we’re going on a whacky and zany ScoobyDoo type adventure posing as a noir story. But don’t worry, the ham-fisted acting and crazy puzzles will keep you entertained and distracted in this pleasant adventure for two. Pros:

I really appreciate how this series in particular forces you to work as a pair. They understand the challenge is in communicating what you see in a way which the other can understand, and that the puzzle should facilitate that.
The variety and challenge in PE is much improved upon form the first pair of games. And inspite of this, there was nothing unsolvable, and everything felt like it could be thoroughly thought through.
The addition of the minigames and little secret tokens gave another dimension, and im glad tey added a freeplay mode so you could go back and search for them after.
Cons:

The story in this is abysmal. It almost spoils the experience. I suppose that might be very personal though. I’m all for comically bad writing and acting, but this was just a little bit beyond that. It’s main redeeming factor was it felt like everyone was having fun with their roles and the story. It felt intended.
The game seems to glitch out and lag and has several loading issues at various points.
No in built systems for communication mean you have to rely on thirdparty software. I don’t mind using steam chat or discord or skype (teams, whatever it is now… dead… I guess. ) but it feels a bit cheeky to build your communication centred game without any, you know, method of communicating built into it.
Suggested improvements:

A built in VOIP.
Fix the loading bugs.
Overall Recommendation: Overall I do recommend PE. If you’ve played the first couple of games then you know what you’re in store for. I recommend this to players who enjoy team based escape room type games. I recommend this to people looking to play a communication based puzzle game, and I recommend this to folks looking for a fun little game to spend time with a friend or loved one. I do not recommend this to people who find communication frustrating (unless you’re trying to challenge yourself and grow). I do not recommend this to people who are after a fast paced and challenging type of coop game. I do not recommend this to people looking for a full on challenging escape room type game. This was a fun way to spend a couple of evenings. I heartily recommend you try playing this with someone who has a different native language to you, for that extra spicy challenge. Отлично!
Игра интересная, присутствует большое количество головоломок. Игра работает только с VPN!
It's goood... Very fund to play with a partner.
Pretty fun coop puzzle game. Really requires cooperation too. Dialog super duper sucks though, a lot must have been lost in translation, but it is nice to have two main character who look like normal people and aren't super models.
I love this series! I wish there were more like it! Absolutely love the inclusion of a hint system. The puzzles are mostly fun, and when there is one that doesn't logic for me I having the hints is a godsend! However.... Timed puzzles, and a certain audio design choice I don't quite understand... Timed puzzles just don't work for some of us. A timer can make it hard to concentrate for people with certain neurodivergences. I would really like accessibility options to turn off the timer. Also having the someone repeatedly talk while you're supposed to be communicating information with a friend causes my brain to freeze up. I can't communicate over someone else. There were at least two puzzles where this was an issue, and a third where it was a little annoying. I would suggest having them say a couple of lines and then stop talking for the duration. As mentioned there's a lovely hint system, if we need a hint we will get it there. The ambient music is plenty of noise. I don't' need someone to yell at me repetitively while I'm trying to talk.
i like it
