Overseas is a collection of four short art games, or digital poems. So far, it includes four episodes: a psychedelic trip, a forest horror, a crash course on shamanic techniques, and a simulator of an identity crisis. Take a journey across worlds and figure out the obscure meaning of what is going on.

Massively overpriced art game that will throw you into four areas and won't let you leave until you figure out the surreal win condition for that area. I did enjoy my 45 minutes 100%-ing this game and as much as I like my weird as hell game experiences, I would say you should wait for this one on a very deep sale. _____________
PROS
+ sound. The music and ambient sounds are good. Which is great because the visuals are not its forte for sure. + scavenger hunt fun. It was a fun 30 minutes or so to work out what the cheevos were asking you to do and then run around grabbing all the cheevos. _______________
CONS
- price. This game is an inch away from being encased in carbonite for grand larceny. _______________ So my main gripe is that this game is grossly overpriced. If it was a buck then I would say by all means, if you like your surreal walks through weird landscapes, then pick this up. I will still give this a thumbs up because you will be able to grab this up for a much more agreeable price on a Steam sale.
I like it so, so much. Overseas isn't really a walking sim, it's a collection of surreal scapes — more Yume Nikki than Dear Esther. Surreal walking experiences are a dime a dozen — so what sets this one apart? I think it's a combination of genuinely interesting audio and visuals, subtle humor (the game doesn't have jokes, but also doesn't take itself all too seriously), and, most importantly... just good ideas. Every scape here has a thing, a point, an idea — that's neither too obscure nor too on-the nose. They all hit that sweet spot for me and made me go "huh, I get it." Each scape has an objective. None of those are explicit, but waiting, experimenting, and reading achievements will guide you enough. (Kudos for using achievements as a sort of guide — I think it's a very fun idea, underexplored by experimental games.) Tlon Tired of all that digital chatter surrounding you? You can always turn in off. The catch it, you'll find yourself in perfect silence — and there'll be only one thing left to do. Forest The weakest one, I think. The idea is to plant a tree and experience nature taking hold, growing exponentially and drowning you, the creator of the forest, but in the end, it's the glitchy sky that does most for the emotional immersion here. Sacred grove Become a shaman! Sing spells that revert the sun setting and leaves falling! You can do anything! Except... there's so little of you — and so much withering around. Black Hole Town Franticly running around a dark town overrun with borshchevik, with your jump button relpaced by colorful cursing and your vision always clouded by a growing black hole that keeps sucking you in no matter what you do — it's the most Russian experience I've ever had in a video game. Definitely the best part of the game, but also best experienced last. All in all, recommended.
Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this!
The best I can say is that it's not the worst walking simulator I've ever played. You walk through four mostly barren landscapes. There are some weird objects, with simple textures and usually accompanied by weird audio. You complete some simple objective (which you have to figure out), and the level ends. There's not really a message, it's just art for the sake of art. Which, in my opinion, means they wanted to create a game but didn't really have any ideas so they just threw some stuff together. The game takes about 15 minutes to beat. I might recommend this game for free, but definitely not for $8. If you watch a playthrough on Youtube you won't miss much of the experience.
If you, like me, like an unusual experience, you should try Overseas! Even if you don't really like walking simulators. The games are very short, and at the same time, each fragment contains an interesting idea. I want to note the original graphic style with an mixture of glitch art and generative art, which gives an unusual disturbing atmosphere. I think that's what you could really call "art games". There are games that you spend hours or days playing and eventually forget. Here, on the contrary - each small fragment is remembered and leaves an unusual aftertaste. I definitely recommend it.
Really intense and introspective if you take the time to explore it.* Chernodyrsk especially!
Well, first of all, it's not a game for everyone. Maybe it's not game at all! Someone called it Walking Simulator: not at all! It's an exercise in abstract interactive art, a contemporary work of generative and procedural art. A sort of virtual installation that I would see very well in a museum of contemporary art. I have already reviewed similar art games: Where They Cremate The Roadkill, AlienAfterlife, Triennale Game Collection, Aentity, Starbo, etc. Well, Overseas is not one of the best in the genre, but lovers of contemporary provocative art could like it. It's a collection of four short experiences. I'm sure that each of them has a meaning of its own, but I could not understand it, sorry! This is a very common feature in contemporary art, I often find it cryptic and indecipherable! At least this is the feeling I feel when I visit contemporary art museums in European cities! By the way, I am always intrigued and attracted by these experiments! Usually I'm impressed by aesthetics, graphics and overall atmosphere of such kind of experiences; that's not the case, sorry. I appreciated procedural generation and the graphic style inspired by fractals, but overall graphics and aesthetics are not charming and atmosphere is lacking. I liked just the first experience, it has a bit of character and originality. Abstract floating objects change their shape when you are not looking at them; as consequence, everytime you turn your eyes, you see different objects. Somehow, it reminded me of Layers of Fear by Bloober Team. Other experiments left me indifferent; I found so weird the one with the insults in Russian language! Crazy! By the way, I appreciate and want to reward authors' willingness to develop such interactive artistic experiences. Video Games market needs authors' courage to explore new ways for art! I suggest authors to propose their work to contemporary art museums; it's very hard to sell such kind of experience for 6.50 euro on Steam; maybe a lower price would be better. Amazing visuals and sound in each of these short games. Each world has a distinct tone and atmosphere but they are all expertly crafted and make a really interesting whole. I like this collection a lot and would love to see more like it. I spent a lot of time in 'tlön', enjoying the shifting audio/visual landscape. Such an interesting use of video!
Being kinda involved in the creation process as a tester and a voluntary assistant it is hard for me to be an objective judge but: 1) what I can say for sure: "Chernodyrsk" is a pure joy, especially for those who speak Russian, well worth the money, 2) "Sacred grove" is a satisfying audio-visual experience, spend more time there than in "Journey", lol.
