Ova Magica has stolen my heart! (Despite some flaws). I backed this game on Kickstarter, but waited to play until the full release. Pros: - Great writing for the characters and their personal stories. - SO MANY CUTE BLOBS!!! - Breeding the blobs is easy and fun, with scaling rewards for generations. - There are many festivals, and they are all really fun and give good rewards. - Progression feels rewarding, and building up the town helps keep the game interesting. - The seasons feel distinct and atmospheric. Cons: - If you love decorating your farm and home, this game offers very little in terms of varied decor items. - The romance/marriage is almost non-existing, which is especially disappointing considering the high quality of the writing in general. - This could be a pro or a con depending on your playstyle, but all the mechanics are very simple with little depth. Example: Growing your blobs skills are either just spamming moves in battle, or feeding them boosters. Neutral: - The character models!! They still crack me up 80 hours in! Their wide hips and diaper butts with no noses and giant eyes dancing are some of the funniest moments, but not the greatest aesthetic look. Overall, I love this game. There is a ton of heart, the writing is really funny, not to mention, the blobs are adorable!! It has great quality of life features, simple but addicting gameplay and with lots of stuff to explore.
This game has been accessible for 6 years. I'd like to preface this with that knowledge. These are opinions and based entirely on my time with the game. Ill start with the good stuff first. Its bright and super cute. I love the blobs and most of the combinations. It can be a quick little play. There are difficulty options, which is fantastic when you're trying to play a game for fun. I love the art style. Chibi-esque. Thats where the good ends. Again my opinion. I would suggest it just as a time filler. nothing to get too attached to. The story is lack luster, raise your farm, talk to people beat league, help town(?), get married(?). The town is actually fine without you. you're the lap dog and its pretty evident. With the "marriage" part its you do more or less forced interaction, flirt at max friendship and no dates, just have the materials and you get married. Only one character actually has a good back story, but no resolution. Unless "it is what it is" is your motto. Its incredibly grindy and boring. i tried restarting and just stopped and went back to my old save which was just about done with the game back in early access. I hate that you are forced to wait in between matches. it fluffs the game a little too much. Now because the game is so boring that i dont want to restart it i have 100% but did not get the achievements which is sad to say the least. There also was supposed to be an adventure board (side objective board) that was cut at some point before release. i believe i stopped being able to interact and receive "Will be released at full release" message a year ago, ish. would have actually enjoyed that fluff. then the blob customization..... THAT was the BIGGEST let down. Dont get me wrong there is a lot you can do. but its not what was suggested by a youtuber and dev. Maybe due to not wanting to bog down the game? Im not sure. Breeding is boring as well. During early access i could breed 2 blobs and receive so many different combos between the 2. tried at launch and well. i get 3 variations pretty much the same. i would barely call them variations. The blob worlds do not scale they are set to a specific level grouping which makes its tedious and boring. The blobs you buy from the breeders are also pretty bad. Even on my new the abandoned save file i immediately saved up to buy a breeder blob and it was not good at all. none of them were. You will always be able to breed better blobs dont waste your money. The clothes now. Theres nothing to them. Literally nothing. At the end you can unlock the friend npc clothes but uh... not all of them have color variants. you cannot mix and match. Farm cosmetics are also limited and uninspired. Theres more love put into the blobs than anything else about the game. There isnt even technical housing light, just a slap stick wall art. Again its good as a time filler but otherwise im done and wont be touching the game again. i wish i hadnt gotten it early so i wouldnt be so disappointed.
amazing game, love it by lots and lots. combination of farming and battling not making it boring. just wish for more update and hopefully they put more music in it especially when night time since the music is gone, and for winter hoping for different music where giving more joy of winter than sleepy kind like music while in the farm. Overall is GREAT GAME!
Has a wide variety of activities which break up the monotony of farming alone.
its got potential but i think i just wanted more from it. Just a bit of a lack of variety and depth I reckon. And i don't enjoy the art style but thats just my preference.
