Outwars

I was quite excited to see this game in Steam as this formed my childhood memories from PC gaming. It saddens me to give this game a negative review but I cant recommend this game with good conscience as it is plagued with technical issues. * Menu's work very poorly with mouse which I find odd as the original had good mouse support. * Cutscene's don't play video, only audio. * Game crashes often, even in compatibility mode. * For old game like this getting re-released one would expect certain modern fixes (resolution for one.) Game's max resolution is only 640x480. (I could overlook this if not for all other problems) Time will tell if these issues are looked at all but I fear Outwars will never be fixed, I will change this review if Publisher makes some fixes.

As a long time fan of Outwars I can not recommend the Steam version of this game. I don't know if it has to do with Dgvoodoo or the game itself but its all bad. This game should be removed from Steam until it all gets fixed. Go download the game from Gog instead.

Had no issues playing on my PC (cut scenes, controls, FPS, etc - it's all fine, but just old). One of my first video games. I played it when it was released - for a kid it was a very difficult game ... I didn't even finish it. О самой игре писать не буду, напишу о технической стороне. Первое, что я увидел при запуске это отсутствие начальных роликов, вместо них просто черный экран и фоновый звук. Ну ладно думаю это не проблема, самое главное что бы игра работала. Дальше хуже. В меню игры выдает 1-200 fps, выбрать что-то курсором не представляется возможным, он или не двигается или носится как угорелый по экрану. Ладно,кое как попал в нужные пункты ну думаю сейчас то поиграю, а нет опять черный экран, звук ошибки виндовс и вылет на рабочий стол.... Итог. Удаление игры и возврат средств.

It is a classic and fun - as long as you are fine with old graphics. Contrary to what some reviews have suggested, this runs the same as the GOG version - on Windows 11, the intro and the cutscenes don't show: you can hear the audio but the video does not display. I have both the Steam and GOG version and they both run exactly the same. If you check the files of the Steam version you will see there are some files with the name gog, and there is even the gog icon file in there. I got the gog version since some user reviews had suggested it was better than the steam version but they are the same! I tried to "Disable fullscreen optimizations" to make the video work but it does not change anything on my computer. Update: I found how to make the videos display - it is not perfect but at least it works. Go to the game folder, then open the dxcfg.exe file, then under Presentation, select Windowed. Save and exit. When you launch the game it will now show the video on the top left of the screen (leaving the rest of the screen). At least this way you get to see the videos as you progress in the game.

大昔に、MicrosoftからPC日本語版が発売されていました。大好きで今でもパッケージを持っています。 一言でどんなゲームかを表すと、ジェット噴射で短時間だけ空中移動できるスターシップトゥルーパーズです。ジェット噴射が売りなので、玉ヒュン的なステージが多いです。 以下、おま環かもしれませんが、挙動がおかしい所。 ・ムービーが表示されません。ムービー音声は出ます。 [strike]・UIのマウスポインタの挙動がおかしく、マウスではほぼ操作不能。[/strike] [strike]UIでは、Tabによる切り替えとカーソル、Enter、Escキーでなんとかマウスを使わずに操作が可能で、それで進められます。オプション設定のUIも、それらのキーでなんとか設定できました。[/strike] ------------- 2021/07/27追記 アップデートされてマウス操作が効くようになっていました。(Win10) ------------- オプションのDirect3DをONにして90分くらい遊びましたが、フリーズ、CTD等は一度も起きませんでした。 古いゲームなので操作が独自です。以下、一般的なTPSと大きく違う箇所。 エイムはマウスですが、移動はWASDでなくカーソルキーです。左右キーは左右回転で、左右平行移動は別キーにありますが、[strike]遅いガニ股歩きでほぼ使えません。[/strike] ------------- 2021/05/19追記その1 左右平行移動キー押しながらジェットを細かく吹かすと素早く左右平行移動できます。 ------------- そのかわり、WASDで上半身の軸を移動方向とは別にオフセットをかけることが出来ます。戦車の砲塔、ガングリフォンのHIGH-MACSをイメージすると判りやすいと思います。 Eキーで上半身オフセットを瞬時に戻すことができます。この上半身オフセットはキー配置がカーソルから離れている事もあり、たまに使う感じで、戦闘の大部分は自分と敵との射程距離の読みあい、前後に一進一退して攻撃する、という場面が多いです。 ジャンプはなく、このゲームの売りであるジェット噴射で一定時間、空を飛べます。(注：一番最初のステージでは装備されていません) 大昔の洋ゲーなので、非常に難しいゲームです。 多分、序盤の訓練ステージでの模擬戦でコテンパンにやられて「え？何この無理ゲー」ってなると思います。 ジェット噴射で華麗にビュンビュン飛び回れると思っていませんか？いいえ、違います。重い重装甲服の人間をなんとか短時間だけ飛ばせてる感じです。着地時に噴射をしてきっちり減速しないとすぐにダメージを受けます。かなりシビアです。 弾薬もシビアです。ステージが進んでいくと敵は鬼のように湧いて出てくるのでリソース管理が重要になります。 未プレイの、現代の若者の方には正直おすすめできません！！ ただ、このゲーム独自の楽しさ、というのは十二分にあると思うので、 ・宇宙の戦士、スターシップトゥルーパーズなんかが好き ・英語がある程度判る ・ゲームの腕に自信がある という方は、お値段も安いですし、是非チャレンジしてみてください。 ------------- 2021/05/19追記その2 ラスボスについて ------------- [spoiler] これは当時大変苦労して、今回も同じような目にあって思いだしたのですが、 武装が選べないラス面をタイトル画面からのロードでやり直すと、ステージ推奨の武装でプレイさせられる、という罠があります。そしてラス面の推奨武装だと、「ラスボスにこの武器いらん！変えさせろ！」ってのが発生してキツいです。 1個前のステージで武装を選べるので、そこからやって、ラス面を通しでやるのが良いと思います。その際ラス面で死んでやり直した場合、選んだ武装のままプレイできます。 初見だとどの面がラストか判らないと思いますので、セーブは1カ所に上書きせず適度にズラしていくのが良いと思います。 [/spoiler] ------------- 2021/05/20追記 ムービーについて ------------- おま環(Win10)かもしれませんが、ゲーム中ではムービーの映像が出ません。音声だけ出ます。 ムービーはIndeo Video 5という古いフォーマットで、対処を検索したときに出てくる「ir50_32.dll、ir50_32original.dllの登録」では解決しませんでした。 動画変換サイト等で他のフォーマットに変換するとWin10付属の「映画＆テレビ」アプリでも見る事が出来ました。(私はXVIDに変換しました) ただし、インストールフォルダ内のAVIを直接変換するとゲーム本編で再生が丸ごとスキップされるので、どこか他所にコピーして変換したほうが安全です。 最終ミッションクリア時のムービーはDEAD04_A.AVI、失敗はDEAD04_B.AVIです。

Awesome! never thought i'd get to play this again, a real nostalgia rush

I will fully admit to some bias here, this was the first PC game I ever played on the family home computer. As far as bringing it to steam... A good job, no issues on my end. As a precaution I disabled steam overlay because this game is old and the overlay can mess around with older games. All together only had one crash and i recall it occurring on the hard copy version too, only happens very rarely, at least for me. [spoiler] It happens on the juggernaut when going against the queen, you shoot it, it emerges, crash occurs. [/spoiler] Can't say anything all that negative about this. It is exactly what it was 24 years ago, a game of it's time! Rebind your keys, save after every mission, and set your expectations accordingly. Still a good game!

Got the game for a $1 on the black friday sale...Just breezed through the jump training and wanted to write a review to just say the game works fine on Windows 10. Only complaint is can only hear the audio in the cinematics, but I went ahead to local game files and watched the cinematics using VLC player! So much Nostalgia..Thanks to the publisher to bringing this to steam. If my memory serves right, this was initially published by Microsoft!

Ролики в игре не отображаются. В остальном технических проблем не заметил. Можно спокойно сворачивать игру на рабочий стол. Неудобное управление в плане отсутствия бокового стрейфа (только шаги вбок). Не всегда отображаются цели на карте, поэтому приходится гадать в таких случаях, что нужно сделать. Не смог пройти обучение по убийству трёх противников. Непонятно как эффективно уворачиваться от их выстрелов. Игра не зацепила, поэтому желания учиться в неё играть и тратить своё время на неё не возникло.
