This game is amazing, the gameplay is super duper fun, and surprisingly addicting, I have found myself playing for hours at a time.
This game is a blast! The combat, which is the main highlight here, is really great. You gradually disassemble monsters with wide variety of weapons and items. Fun! But there’s more. The maps are full of hidden paths and secrets and exploration is big part of the game too. Overall it’s a pretty deep RPG with comedic tone.
Stardew Vally, Mad Max, FTL, and one of those indie anime exploration games all smushed into one glorious experience.
Peep my quote that made it into the game - it's the first thing Jack says when entering the "Sucky Swamp"
I was wavering on purchasing for awhile, as the vibe/graphics looked a bit amature, but the idea of destructive puzzle like combat kept bringing me back, and after trying it, it works very well, and has me hoping that the game is quite long.
One of the best games I've played for a while - Outta Gas is a hugely underrated comedy rpg (think Mad Max, Fallout and Damo and Darren or Big Lez all mashed together) that features a very original turn based combat system that is nothing like I've seen in another game. The combat loop is addictively fun and the pacing is impressively good considering it was made by a one-person studio; it gets more right than most AAA games you'd pay way more for and that take less design risks! The game encourages secret hunting, but there are several secrets I got totally stumped trying to reach. I know these are possible to find, but I'm not patient enough to figure everything out - plenty of replay value for hardcore completionists here though. There are some negatives to the game such as a slightly sticky movement on the world map and the unusual visual style isn't for everyone, but overall my criticisms are very small ones. This is a hidden gem of a game that I hope gets the recognition it deserves in future!
Overall a great indie title. Quirky game with fun battle system. It does get a little grindy, but I didnt mind.
Outta Gas is a really unique game that is oozing with it's creators passion and charm. You'll never find another RPG with quite the same combat mechanics. It also has an awesome art style and story! Don't miss this one if you're into quirky indie games and RPGs!!
You want a pretty unique RPG? This game has it! Do you want to slice your enemy's eyes out so they have problems hitting you? You can do it! Do you want to blow their legs off with a rocket launcher so they can't dodge attacks? You can do it! Do you want to set their arms on fire so they can't fight back? You can do it! Do you just want to spray acid on their torso until their internal organs start to fall to the ground? You can do it! Most weapons are really well implemented with advantages and disadvantages, and the enemies are well thought out. Some enemies even operate in interesting ways, and learning to debilitate and kill them as easily as possible is a fun process to go through. Obviously there is room for improvement, but clearly this game is a small project, so you can't expect the world of this game. The graphics are obviously aren't going to wow anyone, and there was a lot more that could have been done with the mechanics (for example, breaking certain weapons to reduce the effectiveness of particular attacks instead of overall damage being affected). Again, this is clearly a very small operation, so expecting everything is completely unfeasible. If there is a part 2, I'd love to see that implemented. That being said, I'd love to see more people pick up this game because this game is a real banger in my opinion, and I'm really glad I stumbled on it randomly. I sincerely hope that this review gets you interested in this game, and you end up trying it out.
I wanna start off by saying that i really do enjoy this game. BUT.....I'm having a hard time finishing the game, the 2nd half of act 3 and so far all of act 4 is just plain too easy. I used to enjoy scrapping my way from checkpoint to checkpoint doing everything I could to push just a little further each time I went out, now I'm going out and killing everything i see with just my knife and rage bar, no ammo needed no grenades no other consumables. It leaves me feeling like the only thing I'm looking for is AK. The only time I use ammo is if I want the fight to go faster or a boss fight, as an example after the 3rd act boss I just went around and gathered up all the stuff I had left on the ground. I haven't bought a health injector since the start of act 3 maybe even act 2. So either i picked the best AK choices or it needs some tweeking, unless that's what you are going for, but like i said i liked the fact that i used to scrap and claw my way around. Asking myself should i go back or press my luck, now nothing seems even remotely dangerous :( Edit: it seems the dev gave up on this game rather than doing what he said he was going to do.
Excentric, bloody & very enjoyable game. This game's combat mechanics is like Fallout VAT's but definitely more refined and strategic with lots of options and ways to kill the monsters. Seems like a lot of game is still left as I seem to be just oveer a quarter in so seems like a 20h game which is probably longer if you want to get all upgrades and collectables. Lots of monster variation and weapons + multi-tier upgrades look very balanced as each weapon is good vs certain monsters so I'm cycling through them quite often. Awesome guitar riffs also. If you are in for a trip I strongly recommend you to gives this game a go. 9/10
