This game is pretty great if you are into the Survival Horror Genre. Pros - The switching between camera angles and field of view is nothing short of amazing. Enemies are walking tanks just like old school RE. They may seems slow but as soon as you have multiple on you it becomes a problem. Im pretty impressed this is all one solo dev. AAA studios still release games without Voice work so it was great to see that here. Level Design is okay would love to see more brighter areas in the next version of this game. Zombies can be scary in the day time too. My negatives would be some of the auto aiming gets wild when you have multiple targets on you. Sometimes camera angle can move you off elevation depending on how tight the interior is. Other than that Im digging it. Solid. 8/10
Contagious Memories continues the long-running Outbreak series of survival horror games, testing your aim and your wits yet again as you guide Lydia through a city overrrun by infected humans and mutated creatures. It's one of my favorite indie game series. The game is literally dripping with graphics and play options, so you can customize it to play exactly the way you want. Feeling like you want to play something retro? Set the graphics to lowest, put it in old-school control mode (think classic PS1 like SH or RE), and fixed-camera mode, then grab a gamepad for that classic feel. Want something more modern PC-flavored? Set it to ultra graphics and first-person mode, and play through with your keyboard and mouse, but don't miss your shots... I prefer the third-person mode myself, but, since you can switch between modes whenever you want as you're playing, don't feel obligated to stick with any one of them. If you're playing on Linux or on your shiny new Steam Deck, you lucky gamer you? CM runs perfectly on the latest Proton release and works perfectly with the Steam gamepad. (I have a suspicion there will be a native version too, though, and if you're on Linux but DON'T have the entire series, WTF are you waiting for, go get it!!!!)
Contagious Memories is actually the first game that I tried in the series and it's so much fun! If you're a fan of the old 90s Resident Evil style, then you'll absolutely be very nostalgic after playing this title. I've finished the game twice, completed all achievements in the game, and I still feel like doing one last playthrough before I decide to finally stop playing the game. (But first I'd like to go through the previous titles). Beware! Don't expect the game to have modern mechanics, this game can be very overwhelming if you're not used to this type of gameplay. Expect this to be hard and clunky (on purpose) as this is how the game is meant to be. I'll give it a 9/10 since so far, what I wish the most out of the series, is that it has a better ending. The story develops pretty well, but I always feel like the ending doesn't deliver.
The extremely long load times going between every single room in the game is absolutely unforgivable, and completely killed my desire to slog through the rest of this title. I'm not playing on a PS1 with a slow CD-ROM drive like the days of RE 1-3, I'm on a modern gaming PC and I won't tolerate this kind of crap anymore. This game is still on version 1.0 and doesn't seem to have received any updates, so it looks like another one this developer kicked to the curb and promptly forgot about while moving on to the next low-effort iteration in the series. A shame, since I actually gave Lost Hope a positive review and played all the way through that one, but I doubt I'll give this series another try.
This game is simply very good because it's really like old school survival games! I give a 7 /10 for the game. See below for the pros and cons. Pros: -Decent Graphics -Puzzle not too hard -Gunfight are fun. -Story is good \ ok. -A lot of customization. -The possibility to select the view (tank, etc) -For a lonely dev , this game is awesome compared to a lot of games we see on the market unfinished. Cons: -For someone like me, that want to appreciate the story , the game is a bit too much hard even on the easiest mode (Normal). I think i passed a point in my life that I don't wanna be a hardcore gamer and appreciate the game and story to see the ending. -If you waste ressources, you are done ! Need a little more ressources in the game because some parts of the game are really awful. (Example: The path to go to the supermarket or upstairs at the precinct.) For now I am gonna take a break and maybe try later to finish the game but for now I am done! Overall = Congratulation to the dev , it's a nice game but hard!
So, I played this for about 10 minutes, and I immediately hated the movement. The game has two movement control options: Modern Tank Controls and Classic Tank Controls. I select classic tank controls expecting this to control in a way where up and down moved you forward and back and left and right rotated your character. That's not what happened. Instead, it controlled much more like a modern FPS on controller where the left analog stick moved you forward, back, and strafe and the right stick moved the camera. This would be fine except that there is a weird startup to movement. Every time I started moving, I felt like I was a car in sludge moving much slower than expected and then kind of accelerating into a less than optimal final speed. I changed my controls to "Modern Tank Controls," and then it functioned exactly the same. What was the point of the choice? The inventory management system was also entirely confusing. I found the buttons for getting into the options menu and for accessing memos right away. Maybe if I got far enough into the game something would have unlocked and it would have explained how to manage actual items, but I never got that far. Instead I found a screen that placed far too much prominence on memos. I couldn't find any where to reload my gun. When the game stopped and said, "hey, there are zombies ahead and you should probably reload," I looked through the menus for a way to select an item and reload and found nothing. I did find that readying my weapon and firing automatically reloaded, so that was fine, but I really thought there should have been a way to view any items that I expected. In the end, while it has the tone of a classic RE game with all the lovable, cheesy dialog, the gameplay didn't match what I was expecting, so I immediately returned it.
I'm excited to be playing this new chapter of Outbreak, having followed the games since the first top down pixel-styled one to later titles on console. The quality of life changes this game brings to the series puts it a notch above the previous ones. I especially love the music in this one and the cheesy voice acting is especially endearing - think PS1's Clock Tower hahahha. Fans of late 90s survival horror, you gotta get on this!
This is crazy good im too nervous to keep playing tonight ((Played with dark light in my room and i usually don't get scared or nervous from zombies) This is true survival genre like i remember the old days when i was kid, I played mostly in first-person the whole time but you can change cameras on-the-fly its pretty nice.. My only complain would be that some zombie models are the same in places unless it's cheesy intended for oldschool vibe ahah. For a solo dev the artstyle, sounds and gunplay and survival is top notch, thanks a lot :) and i look forward to co-op with a friend or stranger when im less nervous!
